And the Mary-Sue cel strikes again
Update on the "Mary-Sue" cel that first posted about.

She's posted yet another fancel- this time featuring her "original character" and Shippou

Here's said auction

My question still remains- Does she realize that without the Mary-sue she could actually sell these things?

Oh wow! So know we know her name--- Eve! A truly probable name for what (seems to be) a Hanyou living in Japan 500 years ago. XD

Do I have to point out just how many canon characters from very popular (many even good) anime/manga do the exact same thing (giving very non-Japanese names to characters in an ancient- or feudal-Japan setting)?

Well name one from InuYasha please? Takahashi has meaning behind all names given to characters in her series. Some are based on an aspect of their character, some a witty joke... etc. Nonetheless- they're all Japanese names in that series, so using a distinctly non Japanese name for your OC is well... silly.

My favorite line from any fanfic writer: Any questions or comments are welcome, but I must please ask that no one use my character images without permission.

Because, you know, they always get permission to use the characters they use in their stories...

Well, and like anyone would *want* to steal their Mary-Sues to begin with.

now you see, it all depends on who the original character is. I've never heard of this MarySue (or author) before, but there are some fanfics (AUs, or ones with OCs that aren't MSs...rare, admittedly) that even I'd like cels for. Jadewing's "Transcending a Dynasty" comes to mind there...
Anyways. You're right, she probably could sell them without the OC. She's quite good at it.

I'm big into "InuYasha" fanfiction, and I can promise you that this "Eve" is not a character from any well known story. ^^; "Transcending a Dynasty" has some OCs if I remember right, and "The White Dog" (I don't like that story) has a few popular OCs--- but this is just a fangirl selling her Mary-sue. Like I said before-- I've gotten the impression that she hasn't posted her story yet. (Thank god.)

Yeah...I've gotten out of the Inuyasha fanfic-dom more or less since it hit TV...fanfiction.net, as if it wasn't bad enough, was just FLOODED with crap then. TAD did have a few OCs, but there were only a few who were of any importance (and most of them were ghosts, lol) (And yes, Jadewing is one of my favorite authors ^^;;) I liked TWD, but that hasn't been updated in forever...oh, and Chaos Comes in Many Forms. and the Divided We Fall saga, all of which have never been finished. Sigh.

I'm (currently) an "InuYasha" fic author, and I'll agree- the IY section of ff.net is just a hole of crap. It's horrible.

TWD was actually just updated recently, as in about a week ago. O.o First update in about two years.

As for "Chaos Comes in Many Forms," it's one of my favorite "InuYasha" fics. I know the author, and she's just been having some issues lately. She's going to be updating "Chaos" in the next month or so. *kicks Evercool into gear*

It was? really?
...blah. I'd have to read the whole thing again, and I *really* don't have the time. (To throw out another random fic, was that massive fic about Kagome becoming a hanyou...blah that's generic, can't remember the title though...it was MASSIVELY popular, but I personally thought it was really creepy the way Inuyasha acted...it started with an O? Kagome had a subduing spell as well? Bugger. Anyways. was that ever finished if ya know what I'm talking about?)
Ooh. CCIMF updating soon? I must look for it ^__^
...this is why I never wrote anything more than a few oneshots. If by some freak of nature a story became popular, I'd run out of ideas halfway through and have the fandom after my tail.

I think that's "Turnabout is Fair Play" by Ookami-chan. I disliked InuYasha's behavior in it too.
I can't buy his attitude in it at all- he's domineering, he's controlling, he's confident, he's rude to the point of me being disgusted, and overbearing, when in reality, despite his boisterous attitude and the bravado he puts on- InuYasha is a very shy, </i>very</i> inscecure boy.

Oh yah he was also horny all the time in it. -_-

I think it's been updated fairly recently--- I know it's not dead.

If by some freak of nature a story became popular, I'd run out of ideas halfway through and have the fandom after my tail.

XDD I've had to put some fics on official hiatus or list them as discontinued due to that. Getting reviews saying "UPDATE SOON NOW!" when you aren't planning on an update for a while can be a bit stressing.

ah yes, that was indeed what I hated about the story...
which was too bad, because for the first 20 chapters or so it was really a very good story. And then Inuyasha became...ick. I think I left a few negative reviews, waited to see if Kagome would beat Inuyasha into the ground, then gave up and went on my way.

Oh yeah. I honestly think its the Inuyasha fiction version of HP's Queen to Demons, in that it's a massively popular fanfic that started off great but quickly became a pit of (anti) feminist suck.

Try looking up Queen on fanfiction.net. She's a great writer. And her IY/Sailor Moon cross-over is one of the best pieces of Inu AND SM fanfiction I've ever read.

I still maintain that the funniest IY fanfiction that I have ever read is "Big Buttocks", courtesy of The Fluffy Magazine (http://www.thefluffymag.nightsail.net/index2.htm). It puts the entire cast of IY into a parody of the show of Big Brother, with some seriously amusing results. Now I watch IY and can't stop imagining that Sesshomaru and Naraku secretly have a snog fest every night.

(They also started a fic a while ago that threw the cast of Fushigi Yuugi into the show of Survivor, but they never finished the first episode.)

Unfortunately, the maintainers are in the midst of a massive update so nothing is currently available. They are also Austrailian, and on a schedule that baffles this clueless American.

Ya know what? I don't think these should even count as fanart.

The more I look the more it seems like she traced a scene from the manga and then did some alterations to make the image look different.

And I'd bet my DJ collection that she did it for the other cel to. Hell I think I recognize the scene!

Oh cripes, I'm not even in BtVS fandom (like the series, haven't braved the fandom yet) and the name "Spuffy" irritates the hell out of me. It sounds like a kids' show mascot. "Wiiiith Captain Twinkletoes and Spuffy!"

Though then, I thought that the alternative would be... "Bike."

Good icon, though, yeah. Pairing names have always annoyed me.

It frightens me that the buy-it-now price is $55.

And I did not get any of that. My soul burns at the pain of the badness of that picture

That? For $55? More like 5 or 10 would be more appropriate; since it looks like she drew Inuyasha for the face. And the hair is ugly.

(Reply to this)(Thread)

[info]aloysius
2004-01-18 01:09 pm UTC (link)
Cells are transparent sheets that animation is drawn on. It's painted, then put on top of a background, and filmed.

Well, except the fact that no one uses it anymore, because practically all coloring and animating is done on computers now. Cells are highly collectable, and the lack of original ones makes people collect fan-made ones ... I suppose.

I should probably also tell you that many fan-made cells are actually quite pretty, with detailed art and backgrounds.

Can one actually do something with them, or do they just sit around looking pretty? I mean, if they're transparent that limits their use...

Oh well, I shouldn't speak. I collect dreamcatchers...

[info]aloysius
2004-01-18 10:25 pm UTC (link)
Umm ... I don't think it's the costom to use them for anything. I think people frame them and hang them on their wall, like other people hang reproductions on their wall.

But I don't know, I don't collect them myself. Hm.

She's already sold original cells of just Inuyasha characters. For about $2-8 per cell. So I have no idea why she's jacking up the price of cells when they feature her own signature characters.
