More yaoi/slash wank
So today, I was looking through the [info]yaoi community and someone links a post to a rant on why yaoi/slash fangirls creep her out. I can understand why some people would creep her out in the community, since [info]yaoi has been wanked several times already, but now all yaoi fans are representative of one community???

I think the rant speaks for itself (And calls out 'wank me, baby!'), although there is probably one point she makes that's interesting, about some people not admitting they like don't like pr0n but writing it anyways. But then again, there are people who will admit to it so... *shrugs*

It's tame so far, but I expect the wank to go up since it's linked to [info]yaoi.

"Some of them go on and on about how openminded and tolerant they are, but they're not really "accepting" homosexuality. They're just romanticizing a safe, sterilized view of the act. The acts that take place in the average NC-17 yaoi fic bear no more resemblence to two men having sex than the "lesbians" in your average porn film act like real lesbians.

This? This is actually not a bad point at all.

Mmm. But the homophobic slash fans I've met still come off as huge hypocrites. Yes, it's okay for us to fantasize about you guys doing these things, but actually doing them? Ew, gross!

...then again, I've written shota and non-con. Eergggh. Okay, the difference being, gay sex don't hurt nobody. Running off before I wank too badly now.

Definitely. I recall one of the chief motivating factors why the whole "Open Your Heart, Open Your Mind" yaoi/yuri support circle bugged the heck out of me is because it was like saying you support homosexuality after watching Girls Gone Wild! or something. At least when I look at yaoi, I admit it's because it's a turn-on, not because I'm supporting homosexuality on a whole. (Not to say I DON'T, but yaoi isn't a sign of it.)

That said, it still sounds like this girl needs an introduction to the word "overgeneralization." Also, "tact."

[This? This is actually not a bad point at all.]

I have to disagree.

See what people don't get is that yaoi was never meant to be a representation of the gay lifestyle. It was meant to be a way to entertain and arouse people. Maybe I have the wrong books but I never saw any message in my manga or anime that says 'all gay men act like this'.

Last I checked writing fics was done for things like enjoyment, not furthering a cause.

It really is a good point, as far as it goes. She misses out because of the massive generalization and misrepresentation, though.

I write the m/m porn and I do admit that I'm doing it because I like porn. That doesn't make me a slash-writing crusader for justice (although my arguments over m/m warnings being compulsory in non-explicit fic and that slashing a character is corrupting or degrading them might). But enjoying a happy, soft-focus view doesn't mean you aren't accepting of the orientation, either. I like trashy romance fantasy, doesn't mean I only like 'safe' heterosexuality. It just makes me giggle like a loon and curl my toes in gleeful girly enjoyment.

Anyway, as if the porn Falcon makes for gay men is so bloody realistic. The only difference in realism I can see between the porn made by gay men and the fic written by straight women on my hard drive is that one is video and the other is print. Okay, that's a naughty generalisation too. In general, the fic is more realistic, probably because they don't have budget contraints and care more about characterisation.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm off to find some wanton cowboy to call me mistress and do my preverted sexual bidding. Porn assures me he's out there somewhere.

Oh, the original post is plenty wanky. She's not wrong in several of her points, though she happily assumes that the worst of the genre applies to every yaoi and slash story and author out there. But the assertion that only people who never have sex read and write porn... Exactly what world is this woman living in?

I think the statement was referring to m/m sex, which the average yaoi fangirl has not practiced, being female and all.

I had a really good rant all typed up. I was in rare form, if I do say so myself.

But I thought about it and figured...eh.

According to one poster...In all seriousness though, I've seen exactly *one* NC-17 slash fanfic written by a homosexual male. One. The rest are written by straight girls or, in a few cases, homosexual girls. It's just crazy. But the extreme fangirls are disturbing. ~shudder~

Leaving off how the segue made from yaoi being written by straight or in some cases homosexual girls to extreme fangirls and how it left my head spinning...I will say I'm insulted there is (according to her) only one male author in yaoi. [checks pants] Yep. Still there...[sulks]

Marketing. It's all in the marketing.

Jeez. Everything she says here can also be applied to some LotR fans, some HL fans . . . and, hell, I suspect every other damn fandom there is, including even some furries! Is she going to be scared of ALL of them?

This rant just reeks of a need to prove how normal and down-to-earth she is. To herself, maybe to others, who knows. What she really succeeds in is making herself look like an overgeneralizing twit who needs to feel superior to others.

Aaaaah. And once again, f_w consumes its own. I don't know why people call us a clique which only likes picking on others when we pick on our own so often.

The long, happy strings of silly jokes and icon love are a cover, we're rabid wolves just waiting for the slightest slip into wankery... then we pounce in a pack and savage them to pieces!

Or possibly we're just a bunch of bitches with little group loyalty and short attention spans. One or the other.

Ack. It's hard for me to figure out exactly what she's complaining about.

At first I thought she was whining about fic not being realistic enough. I went, "Bitch, please. It's fantasy. It doesn't have to be realistic, that's the point." Then I read everyone else's comments and said "Oh, she's saying that just because you like yaoi doesn't mean you're all pro-gay-rights. Well, I guess, maybe that's true, in a way..." Now I'm rereading the original rant and it seems like she's saying straight females can't write porn worth a crap and suck because they don't have dicks.

Can someone tell me exactly what point she's trying to make here? Damned if I can figure it out...

That being said, why *aren't* there more realistic yaoi fics out there? Why don't these yaoi fen try out what they're writing about? O_o

Uh, right. I can't believe I just typed that.
