Annoying Big Font Post Attack! Run For Your Life!
My first and a tiny wank, but has been an annoyance for a while, so maybe this is the last straw...

A few members over at the clay_aiken LJ community have been getting a little fed up with posts about other members' success with buying tickets to the Kelly Clarkson and Clay Aiken concert. After repeated attempts at getting people to post in a single entry to save the precious friends page...

This girl shows up.

After a few comments of people bombarding her with comments to not only tone her font size down a notch, but also making a fat joke about Ruben Studdard, "FaYe FaYe" goes back to edit her entry. She didn't fix her font. Instead, she bitched.

Finally, some poor soul tries to stick up for FaYe FaYe by telling everyone to "CHILL. PLEASE."

Hey, I haven't watched more than about 30 hours of television in the past year, and all of it was Trading Spaces (so sue me, Amy Wynn is hot), some Discovery network special or other, or C-SPAN. I avoid network reality shows like the goddamned plague, I have made myself a current TV-culture hermit, and I'm still sick of Clay Aiken.

Also, ICON! *points and loves*

Don't take life so seriously. No need to swear at people for DOING WHAT THEY'RE SUPPOSED TO DO... and that is to post messages in the community... HOWEVER THEY WANT TO.

In the words of Eric Cartman - screw you, hippie.

Also, is there such a thing as a Ruben Studdard fan? I've yet to encounter one.

Back when they showed the "Idols on Tour" thing, they actually did show one Ruben fan amidst all the Claymates. She was claiming to be Ruben's wife and then got in a huge fight with a Clay fan standing next to her.

I think she may be the only one.

(I wonder if she has an LJ...)

He must have some, as his album has been nominated for a Grammy (and that never happens unless you're popular - ah, politics!). My only guess is that because he sings R&B instead of out-and-out pop that his fans are older, or at least less squee-ish and rabid.

I work with a lot of people who like Ruben, but they're not absolutely flippin' nuts like the Clay fans. They just like his singing.

I kind of wish my coworkers would have LJs, because the arguments about why Clay gets all the attention when *he didn't win* would be classic f_w material. Or maybe not. I think they have a point (but nobody needs a racism argument here....)

I'm not a fan of his music or his voice particularly, but I do have a soft spot for Ruben because we're from the same town--nay, the very same zip code.

My parents are rabid Clay freaks. They also love Barry Manilow.

I can't stand the people who bitch and complain in every single place possible about how the tour isn't coming near them and they can't see Clay, though they've already seen him in concert and met him! Though they're always careful to say they don't give a rat's ass, they obviously care because they won't shut the hell up about it. God, Clay's fanbase is the worst I've seen since NSync and Backstreet Boys fans were feuding.

You say 'were' like it's over. There isn't as many off them, I'd guess, and it's not so open and rabid given Nsync's newfound delight in sitting at home in their underpants watching cable, but the fight still goes on.

At popdirt.com it's open and eye-sporkingly idiotic, with the slashers it's occasional and mostly underground, but the battle continues. And, as ever, the bands themselves utterly fail to care and continue dancing together, drinking together, cuddling and generally having a fine old time.

Which means, I guess, that if Clay and Ruben both maintain some sort of visibility and presence, this Feud Of Wank will never be over either. I'm so happy I'm crying, really.

MY FIRST CONCERT EVER

I thought the two lines in tandem were quite scary, myself. ^_^
I'm kind of glad I'm in another country so I miss out on Clay Aiken overload... but then again we have Guy Sebastian.

Everyone should consider her feelings, but she can't consider the feelings of others? What's up with that?

I really have to agree. It's ridiculous, definitely the worst I've ever seen. Anyway, I'm not familiar with the HP fandom, and after reading daily HP wanks here at f_w, I suppose it's probably a good thing.

I'm a Ruben fan... casually. I prefer his voice. And that doesn't mean anything except: I prefer his style of singing and song choices. It doesn't mean his voice is better than Clay's. (Though I do think Clay has a better PR team.)

I couldn't care less which is the "better" singer.

The singers have never been the point or the fun of AI for me. (Are there really fandoms devoted to the singing aspect? ::blink, blink::) No, the "talent" has never been the reason for my tuning in to watch.

Can you guess why I watch? Huh? Can you?

See, that's the thing. I'm a hardcore Clay fan, and a casual Ruben fan. Ruben just doesn't inspire the kind of fervor Clay does, no matter how nice his voice is or how undeniably cute his smile is. I like Ruben. I would be happy if he, like, sang at my wedding or something and I'm happy he's sold a half million records. But go completely fangirl crazy about his amazing singing in person, like I have for Clay's singing? Not gonna happen. Unlike Ruben's fans, Clay's fans went so crazy for him during AI that more than one person posted taht they'd bought a cell phone for the express purpose of voting for him with two hands for two hours every Tuesday night. I kid you not. (Not that it made much of a difference - the phone lines were so jammed that hardly anyone could actually get through to vote. Clay's own mother wasn't able to.)

Ruben just doesn't inspire that in a whole lot of people.

For the record, *I* watch for the singing. Honestlyl, I do. I mean, the audition eps are funny and everything, but I'm waiting for them to hurry up and be over so the singing competition can actually start. I love the idea that these people were just college students, nurses, waitresses, secretaries, handymen, mail clerks, etc., with good voices that are just plucked from obscurity sans record label manufacturing and prepping, and then given this amazing once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to shine for everyone and get ahead just on talent. I really enjoy the whole process. There are a lot of us out there; we're just... um... mostly over 18.

Jaysus, when God mentioned the coming of the messiah, he didn't mention it was coming in the form of Clay Aiken. Clay-wank (or as I prefer, "Clank") is a world scary and complex, in the field of tax forms and Al Sharpton's hair.

Al Sharpton's hair.

Which isn't all that different from Clay Aiken's and Ryan Seacrest's, it should be pointed out. =)
