Icon is from an episode of Enterprise called "Vox Sola", which featured this big webby, amoeba looking creature (aka Giant Alien Cum Monster) that enveloped some of the crew including Archer. When it released them... they were covered in, yeah, sticky white fluid.

The other L is like the other O in "lose": bad spelling that's so pervasive that nobody even bothers to correct it anymore.

not really, because "loose" means something. unlike kerfluffle, which may be wrong, but it doesn't mean anything other than what it is.

plus 'kerfuffle' is for everyone. 'kerfluffle' is a fandom-dustup-specific word now--like 'filk' music in big sf fandom, which originated from a typo of 'folk' at some early convention.

the bad spelling didn't start here. it came here partially with my 'kerfluffdates' back when fandom_wank was on livejournal.

in fact, the origin is thought to be the pre-lj nsync wank of helen & syncronik vs. nsyncgrrl. she called that a 'kerfuffle' and wax jism misread it as 'kerfluffle' and used it that way.
