OMFG STFU Like, what is a 'canon'?
Hello. This is my introductory wank. Behold the depth of my pettiness... because, you know, I've watched way too many people friends lock their journals to bitch about this and it chafes me.
Meet Zed Adams. She's a self-proclaimed, 39-year old "minuscule name fanfic writer" who just so happens to have a few "half-assed reasons" on why Subaru/Kamui totally r0xx0rz her b0xx0rz. Not that anyone showing the least bit of not-so-half-assed reasoning can say anything different; who are we to assume, anyway, that there's a thing called the freedom of opinion and that a Seishirou/Subaru community has every right to state, on their own comm, why they believe that The Canon TB/X slash pairing works best? (Tokyo Babylon, book 7; the love confession) Damn, we are presumptuous, manure-flinging monkeys.
But, really, why stop at the good ol', classic SxS vs SxK debate, when we can bring in examples, from other fandoms, regarding our more personal wankeries?
"I wrote two SxK fics and it raised some hackles for my plastic characterization of Subaru... So, I am guilty of character bastardization."
Nice that we got that cleared up, ma'am. Denial is an ugly, ugly thing, after all.
"So what? I bastardize H&D in my A&T and Barriers series. I gave them a whole new persona of their own. I don't have a problem with that."
Well, shit... looks like I spoke too soon. Of course, it must be difficult, feeling justified in your work, when you are compelled to note that the characters are ooc or that anyone who has the gall to admit that they are being so must be a weenie. But hey... live and let live, right? The Seishirou/Subaru community and most of HP fandom seemed content to let Zed rant in her own corner, unmolested.
However, she was not content to keep her wankage to herself. Thus, molested, she must be.
So, SxS writers should start shelling out their own SxK fanfiction instead of just whining over how terribly ooc and tasteless it is? Well, for the sake not being a completely whiny hypocrite, let me be the first to make an offering. I may have been sixteen and stupid at the time, but at least I made an effort to be halfway in-character before I slopped all over the page with my fangirl drool. And I don't blame any ooc on AU or intended mediocrity; I blame it on my own youthful ignorance.
If you're only gonna come into your fandom half-assed, don't be surprised when not everyone is willing to give you a biscuit and a pat on the back.
