"Want me to draw a picture to better explain it? Maybe make a tutorial video? "
I've been searching around for wank concerning the casting of Keanu Reeves as John Constantine in the movie version of Hellblazer (that's being called simply Constantine) that's coming out this September. The last few weeks? Nothing...but I have finally found something. In the beginning, sadly enough, there was mostly agreement of the "OH LORD, NO!!!!" kind, but recently there's been some discussion at that favored spot of wank, IMDb:

http://imdb.com/title/tt0360486/board/nest/1207890

And here are some choice bits sampled here for your amusement. I'm just sad I couldn't get more because a good chunk has been taken out by the mods there.

from Junglejaneface:
Yeah well no comic book films will be as well done and as faithful as the new marvel movies but hey, Keanu Reeves, Now he can Kung Fu everyones arse.
I hate you all. Negative Film critics should have their families set on fire.

from Fafne:
Keanu Reeves IS the perfecy Constantine. ... Just kidding! I'll slit my f**ing wrists if this movie is ever made. Not that I wouldn't like to see a Hellblazer movie. Just not by people that make an american non smoking twat out of him. Arrrgghh!!

from Stonefly2:
You're all very pathetic. You continue giving names of British actors when everyone knows that the character will be an American and it has been given long time ago to Keanu. There's nothing you can do about it. Sorry. Surely Keanu will be a great Constantine, because he's an actor very commited to his work. Don't judge his acting in the film before seeing the movie. That's something very stupid from you.

from HighwayMonkey:
Nah, what's stupid is having a property completely slaughtered and then someone who doesn't know what they're talking about (you) tell people who do know what they're talking about (me) that they're overreacting.
No one's blaming Keanu. He obviously lacks the motor skills to properly butcher a property. But that doesn't mean I'm going to **** daisies that he's in it.
I can still disagree with casting choices, even after the roles are set, and it's stupid of you to think otherwise. John's fifty as well. I don't know how many damn times I have to say that here before you people finally understand it. He was born on May 10, 1953. Want me to draw a picture to better explain it? Maybe make a tutorial video?

Sting, Ewan MacGregor, James Marsters (who's name is mispelled at least four times in various posts), Tim Roth, Johnny Depp, Mickey Rourke, Keifer Sutherland, and other actors wander in and out of the discussion, being dismissed as too old, too young...and sometimes there's a lovely argument over what country they came from. Add in a minor discussion on Highlander, Patrick Stewart, and some mournfully deleted hate, and you can't help but TRIP over the fun.

This reminds me of all that Lupin wank. Although HP always has that non-stop whining before the movie comes out.

Did they ever *cast* the Lupin movie?

I meant Lupin from Harry Potter. ^^;;;

But from what I heard last, they were looking at Jim Carry as Lupin the Third.

Will they also cast Renee Zellweger as Fujiko?

Not sure. I haven't heard about it again in ages but I remember the mentioning of trying to get Jim Carrey and then something about... I think... Ben Stiller.

They need someone more curvaceous, and brunette - maybe Catherine Zeta-Jones.

She would indeed be excellent, but in the Lupins I've seen, Fujiko was always a blonde. Does that vary?

Must be, because I remember her as brunette. Ah well, she's the sort who changes her style often.

Live action? Live action movies always suck! And Jim Carrey's a wanker!

...er, not that kind of wanker.

(That was fun. But it could be addictive.)

yeah, they do. It starts even more fun when they argue over whether he has any acting ability, and then there are the people who DON'T know about that and go "what the hell are you talking about? STING?" Love the icon, BTW.

no. The character John Constantine was originally created by Alan Moore and modeled off of Sting. We're just being all penis-metaphor-y cause...I dunno. Just happened. Then again, this is Conjob we're talking about so...

BTW, dafnap, I friended you...cause you have shiny pictures to look at, I like your icon, and you appreciate Xander in an eyepatch. ^_^

Also funny is I looked up Keanu, and he's 40. Not too big a difference from 50. Hee.

Yeah, but Denzel and Emma sucked in that too, and few will deny they can actually act. I think Keanu mostly gets a bad rap because he looks hotter with his shirt off than 99.999% of the male population of the planet of his goofy voice.

Yeah, that really fucks the boys off, doesn't it? Kinda like how they're all up in arms because there are now two - TWO! *gasp* - yaoi DVDs up there on the top shelf with the 19 bazillion hentai ones.

I don't think that movie is much to go by. He's been good in other films (see: The Gift, River's Edge, My Own Private Idaho, A Walk In The Clouds, Feeling Minnesota) and Much Ado About Nothing has multiple Oscar winners/nominees sucking ass, too. One can't help but think it was the execution rather than the participants that made that one a stinker.

I'm sorry, I'm a big time Keanu apologista. He may have limited range, but he's good at what he does. He got very good reviews in the Chicago stage production of Hamlet and have you seen Little Buddha? He made a credible Buddha! That's like playing an excellent Jesus, you know?

I don't watch many movies, so all that I have to base Keanu's acting ability off of is... Much Ado abotu Nothing and The Matrix, the first one. I'm sad, I know.

I've seen as many Keanu Reeves movies as I can get my hands on. I agree with you that he isn't a bad actor. I actually think he shines in some movies, that suit him.

I need to find Little Buddha yet..

I'm waiting to make a decision on whether he is 'hurting' Constantine, or not.
