Smallville mini-wank
A while back, the Devoted Fans Network put a copy of the script for the Smallville episode Shattered (which is considered to be one of, if not THE best episode of the show). A bunch of fans pool their money to buy a copy. They are out-bit at the last moment, and decide to buy a copy of Perry instead.

For some reason, DTS sends out a copy of the deleted scenes from Shattered as well, making all those that received the script very happy. One of those people, Smallcondo, posts transcripts in her journal.

However, the owner of the script shows up, and she is pissed.

Still a pretty minor wank at the moment, but WindDancer's behavior is amusingly inexplicable.

Oh harsh, I was just coming over here to post this.

It would have been my first wank too!!!

You're doing it all wrong. Please observe:

I cried when I read this post. This [wank] is the only fannish [wank] I have ever [discovered]. I'm not a [huge poster]. A [smallville wank] is a [big discovery] for me to but I really wanted to [make the first post from the wank] because I really love it and this is my [first wank]. I thought I was [posting] something special. It gave me great joy to [post] it because I am a [wank-posting newbie]. A [wank-posted newbie], not some [seasoned wank warrior], not some selfish person who doesn't want others to [post it first], but a [newbie] who b[r]ought it out of fannish love for [journal fen].! It meant a great deal to me.

Now instead of this having this special thing, I have nothing. You and the [hive vagina] got to feel good about sharing it with the world. I never had that choice even when I [saw it too]. My joy is gone. I feel horrible and I feel used.

Please replace bracketed words as needed during any future wank reporting. And don't worry, it's a mistake all new wank reporters have made at one time or another. With a little time and practise, you'll be a pro.

A fan, not some rich bidder, not some selfish person who doesn't want others to have it, but a fan who bought it out of fannish love.! It meant a great deal to me.

So the script is now worthless because other folks got a look at some of the scenes?

And of course it doesn't bother you, that's why you're throwing this hissy fit.

I wonder how much of this is the realization that she spent over a thousand dollars on... a script.

Don't mistake me. I've had my own share of post-auction sanity depression. I was just thinking the timing might have been bad. She was probably already thinking "omg I spent way too much on this," and then she finds out that it's not even that special.

What the... geez, people, it probably belonged to some random WB employee who was on the set for something technical, it's not like it harbors the very soul of one of the pritty pritty actors. I mean, if it was a MOVIE script that belonged to an actor you REALLY loved, I could maybe, maybe see paying $1000 for it. But if it's a television episode script, and just an "Official Script" as I'm assuming this is, then rampaging vampire Buddha, get over it, they'll probably release the damn things in a book at some point and it sure as hell won't cost $1000.
(Unless Neil Gaiman was selling it to his fan club, or something...)

Not only that, but so are her comments in smallcondo's lj. Foul play! The only one I could save before it went kaput was the last one:

"I don't think read my original post. If you think this is about me being mean and small and not wanting others to have or enjoy something, you just don't get it. I'm not going to try to make you. End of story. There is no reason to get nasty."

Damn, my inability to capture screens. I hate deleted wank!

I think someone made a sockpuppet journal and was trying to stir shit up.

Hm... maybe for a script of the 100th episode, IF it had not only belonged to David Boreanaz, but been pressed between David Boreanaz and David Marsters' naked chests as they embraced, and then been used to smack Charisma Carpenter (I used to like her, so the smack doesn't have to be on the head, it could be on the shoulder or ass or something... preferably ass), and then sung to by Andy Hallet, and then cuddled on a bit by Amy Acker, THEN I might pay $1000 for it.
... If I had $1000.

$1000. For a script. Of a TV show episode. That you could just watch and transcribe yourself.

*facepalm*

Way to prioritize, people.

Transcribe, hell. Finding scripts is about as difficult as taking off a hat. Paying more than xeroxing cost plus a few buck's for the dealer's trouble is just mental.

For gods' sakes, you don't have to pay to get a script. Just call the production company and tell them you're thinking of becoming a script reader, and do they have any extras around? There are piles of the damn things in those offices, and if the episode's already been aired (or the film's already been released), they'll let you have 'em for free!

They paid that much for the script because it had somebody's autograph on it? Don't most autograph-givers do that for free? Maybe for a SASE?

Dude. I took a vacation in Europe last summer (from Arkansas!) for less than got paid for a script and a signature that could've been had for postage.
