Oh just change the name to Fanfic-WHINE and get it over with
http://www.livejournal.com/community/fanficrants/205105.html

Someone posts to Fanficrants complaining about how they're not getting enough crit for their fics.

Other posters, myself included, point out that hey maybe asking strangers online for advice in improving your work isn't the best of ideas.

Wank on all sides ensues.

Watch Tear_Priestess as she compare reviewing to catatonic schizophrenia!

Er, hate to be all nitpicky here, but since you're hip deep in the spooge deeply involved in the debate at hand, wouldn't this be better posted to I_wank?

Feel free to let me know if I'm completely misunderstanding the concepts, here.

Oh, yeah. That's just why I have that comm friended. The trainwreck effect, and all the most annoying fan behaviour gathered for my benefit. I agree this would be better off in , but I'm enjoying it anyway. The sheer beauty of passive aggression:

Oh, so you're saying you don't want decent authors with poor self-esteem to keep writing! Thanks for telling me. I'll be sure to pass that on.

On one hand, it is sort of annoying to get reviews you can't even read (I've gotten several reviews on FF.net that I couldn't even understand). A problem is if the author gets nothing but good reviews and someone comes along and rips them another butthole or even gives them SOME sort of C&C, they can get upset over it and not be prepared. Seen that happen to several authors, who's writings are pretty good, but could use some C&C. They liked the fic and suggested ONE thing that could use improvement and the author jumped on them with their friends.

But on the other, one review is better than no review at all. Just a 'I liked your fic' is fine for me, although I would rather have C&C. But if they find nothing wrong, what are you going to do, harass them to kingdom come? Just post your fic to multiple places besides FF.net, eventually, someone will give you a C&C.

Funny part was when someone suggested showing their fics to their teachers. Yeah, I'm going to give my creative writing professor a nearly 30k word male/male story with explict sex in it. I'm sure she would just love reading that. @_@ Or the smaller wank piece I wrote. Or the NCS fic I wrote a while back. I'd think she would pass out knowing I wrote male/male slash, period. :X

I kinda saw her point for a few minutes, then I got deeper into the comments and felt the need to break out the floatation devices before I ran the risk of drowning in spooge.

I snark about incoherant feedback myself, but I don't tell people how to FB or review. That's wanky all by itself. My attitude is that anyone can bitch as much as they want but as soon as they start telling people to modify their behaviour, they lose any sympathy they might previously have had.

If there are so many people at fanficrant that are desperate for long, thoughtful reviews...why don't they just ask each other? ^^;; Or a new community where the rules are "Say something intelligent or nothing at all"? Since it seems to be a common complaint, none of them should have a problem offering thoughtful comments.

That somehow seems more productive that just ranting about it....

Jesus, I read part of the [info]tear_princess thread. Vicious much?

Yah, we know that she's probably not going to get feedback that seems at all consistent with the amount of effort she put into her writing. Hardly anyone ever does. Yah, saying that it's frustrating to write and not get feedback is probably not going to help anything. It's a very common frustration, she's not special. Yah, it's a hard, cruel internet and nobody cares enough to help her find her strengths and weaknesses. We know that.

But all the shrieking is a bit much. You come off like "Oliver Twist has asked for more!"
