Ew! Girls!
"I don't know about any of you guys, but I don't really like femslash. It just doesn't have the appeal that maleslash has. I mean, wouldn't you rather read a good Draco/Harry snog than a Hermione/Pansy or something like that. I have nothing against femslash, but do you think maleslash is better because of whatever reasons you have, or do you like femslash because of your own reasons."

Oh Fiction Alley...someday, all your writers will reach puberty and discover their queerness...

([info]kannaophelia posted this on the LJ incarnation of FW, but, yes, it's still going strong!)

Ah, nostalgia... I posted a link to this thread way back when f_w was on livejournal, and that bloody thread is still going strong. And I'm still incapable of staying away from it.

I should put a mention in there then, shouldn't I?

Yes. Yes I will.

They're some skilled wankers. They practice, make sure to stay in shape because in wanking there is no off season.

I thought the answer to that question was obvious..if you're a straight girl you're gonna want m/m...if you're a straight guy you're gonna want f/f. **snip** I mean, when a straight girl hears "Draco/Harry" they wanna read the fic more than if they heard "Hermione/Ginny".

Oh, totally. I can't imagine a single het woman being turned on by any story that wastes time on female sexuality. It's just too hard to identify with!

p.s. When did the Straight Girls Local 301 vote to make her our spokeswoman? And, why was I not informed?

Must say I'm pretty amazed that women who are willing to step outside the norm and read slash still adhere to such blanket statements. I shouldn't be amazed, but I am.

Considering I'm a (technically) straight girl who reads f/f, and that I know straight guys who reads m/m... all I can say is that if she's our spokeswoman, can we hold a no confidence vote?

*sporfle* Excellent comment!

And wow, that's one loooooongrunning wank, and is quite wanktastic in so very many ways.

*points and laughs*

Though in fairness, contemplating one's own queerness is scary, so I can't and won't point and laugh at the variety of individual reactions to those personal fears. If I did I'm sure various friendly folks would rightfully call me a hypocrite. *waves hi to LJ friendslist sheepishly*

And when did straight girls form a union? I coulda joined...

If she doesn't know about the rest of us, I wish she'd stop speaking for "us". But she's right about one thing: oh, wait. No she's not. I misread her. Whoops. Carry on.

"Because even though I like m/m slash, I want you all to be assured that I am Very, Very Straight. Even if I am a girl, I don't want to read about two girls together because it might call into question the fact that I am Very, Very Straight. I like boys. Boys only. I am Very, Very Straight. Do we all get this? Good. Don't forget. Femslash=icky, if you, like me, are Very, Very Straight."

Idiot.

You could also be Very, Very Misogynistic, or Very, Very Lesbophobic.

Jesus Christ, just because you'd rather bonk guys doesn't mean you have to be such an ass about girl on girl. She's probably afraid of het, too. Yeesh. [rolls her eyes]

man, the pity of htis is that it starts out fairly well--not the first post, which is heinously idiotic, but the replies. They're almost proto-feminist, with a decent representation of f/f reader/writers.

And then it all implodes. Homophobic straight guy, the idiotic lesbian separatist claiming that f/f relationships are more Subtle and Hard to Portray, declarations from On High of Why We Read Slash, demands that EVERYONE be turned on by EVERYTHING or clearly you are a bigot--am I the only person not offended by a straight male not wanting to watch explicit gay sex?--the phrase "a gay," amateur sociological analysis, and my head is going to explode now.

IT'S OKAY TO BE SQUICKED BY A CONCEPT! THAT'S WHAT SQUICK IS! Am I just using a violently different concept of this word because I spent my formative years hanging around the alt.sex.* newsgroups? Lack of horniness=/=condemnation!

rarr.

I go calm down now.

Your comment is just made so much better with that icon. That is the best "what the shit" icon out there (except for Seriously Annoyed Cat here, that is).

And I totally see what you're saying, but I've gotta point out that that homophobe dude was really offensive. It wasn't that he didn't like m/m slash so much as his "it is impossible for any straight man to like slash because EWWWWWW!!!!" attitude. And his responses in which he said he knew "perfectly well how to treat gays" or whatever.

hee, thank you. I enjoy my icon, I do. (I love best the one with a cat staring into a fishbowl, but I forget whose it is.)

And yeah, the guy's an asshole, but he doesn't *seem* homophobic, just incredibly ignorant. Regardless, ordering him to be just as turned on by m/m sex as by f/f sex is, one, futile, and two, a good way to make yourself look stupid.

so!

Especially when the one doing the ordering is one of those fangirls who admits to not liking f/f slash because she's not gay.

(Actually, I don't know if that's the case here, but I've run across plenty of girls who've bitched about guys who don't like m/m slash and then turn around and say that only lesbians like f/f slash. Uh...huh.)

I don't find this wanky, actually; I think the chick raises a good point. I'm bisexual, dating a female, and I still find f/f and het squicky. it's pretty common, I think.

Hmm... but they're not arguing it's squicky. They're arguing it's not any good because *they* don't like it. And then going on to speak for all straight women, straight men, and so on and so on, and tell them what *they* find appealing...

Which is both idiotic and wanky, especially when they tend to go on to claim that Harry/Draco, of all things, is just brilliant.

Hah! Foolish man-animal! Don't you realize that lesbians only have sex until they get a good fuck? Thus, they aren't really gay, they're just over-sexed, three-some loving chicks who just need a good man to introduce them to the joys of SEX WITH COCKS. :-P

No, no -- all women are bi, they just haven't all realized it yet. This also goes for the straight ones who feel nothing sexual or physical for women. (A male friend of mine loftily informed me of this a couple years back... I guess I'm still in denial! Poor me.)

Oh, right. That too.

(I'm actually still peeved about how my guy friends go on and on about how girls are so much more open to lesbianism, yet would never in years like guy-on-guy. AAAARGH!)

Yeah, but...
[info]kannaophelia
2003-04-11 12:41 pm UTC (link)
...basically his argument is exactly the same as the "Femmeslash is ew! Bring on the Harry/Draco!" argument made by every second poster, and they're too far up their own arses to see it. Because saying you don't like f/f but think m/m is hot because you're a straight female is liberated, but saying you like f/f and not m/m because you're a straight male is HOMOPHOBIC.

Is that directed at her, or at the fact that she got wanked? Because yeah, to each their own, but when she starts trying to speak for all straight chicks, well, then she's goin' DOWN!

OK, maybe not goin' down. Maybe just slouching a little.

Can you tell I've been up all goddamn night?
