Queer Eye For the Straight Guy wank.

Because straight "womyn" should not in any way lust after or wish in any other way for a chance to bang any member of the Fab Five. Because they are doing wonderful things for Teh Gay. Therefore only gay guys should fantasize or lust over them, obviously.

Wow...so...does this guy even realize he contradicted himself? I mean...please explain the difference between a gay man lusting after a straight man and a straight woman lusting after a gay man.

Oh, my. I bailed out on the queereye community just in time to miss all the wank!

Queer Eye is indeed aimed for womyn...and gay men on the side. Once again, you've got gay imagery being denied to queer men.

Not really seeing how women--excuse me, womyn--watching the show is denying gay men the eye candy. It's not like Bravo is a big Girls Only Club. Admittedly the fangirling that goes on in that community is scary at times, but dude, lighten up.

I thought you knew! See, every object has a "lust quotia" based on how hot they are on some ineffable scale we don't understand. If too many people lust after an object, it suddenly becomes horrible and ugly. Therefore, we're robbing the gay guys of their lust objects because they keep showing up late.

Or something.

I apologize for being possessive but it comes from a history of being denied my privileges to think that I may have a chance with Jai, Thom, Carson or Kyan without some straight girl trying to "straighten" him out.

So does that mean we can try to "straighten" Ted?

Paging the Reality Doctors...
[info]limyaael
2004-02-20 02:30 pm UTC (link)
We have yet another patient with trouble distinguishing fantasy from reality.

However, QE is completely revolutionary because for the first time, we have openly gay celebrities which means gay men are finally allowed to fantasize about these guys completely guilt-free, knowing that there is some sliver of a chance that a relationship between any of these guys could be possible. And it feels good to be able to fantasize rather than think of how could I make this guy gay or bi.

So...fantasizing, which is in contradiction to reality most of the time, has to depend exclusively on the actor's stated orientation? And the actor is straight, this guy can't possibly put him into his fantasies because he has to "think about making this guy gay or bi?"

Wow. I just...wow.

Frankly, I think the chances of a celebrity ever looking at most people is miniscule enough that it really doesn't matter whether people think of them as gay, bi, straight, or asexual. But then, I also think that "fantasies" are allowed to be different from "reality."

We really need the Reality Doctors over here, STAT!

This guy is a MAJOR asshat. *sigh*

He reminds me of all the guys who just roll their eyes at me and groan whenever I say I'm a transman who loves other men. It's like, "Duh, you're a straight girl, BITCH, and I will NOT give you teh time of day in HELL! You are SO faking it, you don't have a DICK! So I don't believe you, liar!"

...Fuck off. Before I pound your ass into the bed into the pavement.

And I for one am kind of flattered when a girl thinks I'm cute. Maybe it's because I've gone to an all-female college for four years (thanks Mom), and I consider myself a REAL (?) feminist, not a separatist asshat that says "let us stay arbitrarily on borders that correspond to the genitalia of our birth sex and not touch anyone that's different from us, OR WE SHALL PERISH!". (Like this guy. Lesbian separatists are more common, but...)

We're all human, dude. Get a grip. We're all going to get turned on by fall in love with someone sooner or later. I classify myself as gay, but somehow one of my lovers is female. She didn't turn me straight. XD

Fandom wank, reporting for duty!
(Anonymous)
2004-02-20 11:25 pm UTC (link)
http://www.livejournal.com/community/antiyaoi/43984.html

So what happened? Well, you see, I joined that antiyaoi community recently. Not because I have anything against yaoi in general, but because I got tired of the fanbase and have a few specific problems. According to the community information before it was changed, that was fine. And I ranted about the specifics. And as I couldn't talk about what I don't know, I often alluded broad rants to my main fandom - Yu-Gi-Oh. For instance, one rant was about when noncanon yaoi couplings are treated as canon. I used some things from Yu-Gi-Oh as an example. 'Cause why I do know other canons, I may not be in the fandom. (Such as Harry Potter.)

After all, this is what I've been doing in fanficrants, hated_character, fandomcliche and every other broad community out there. If you don't understand the rant because of the fandom, you ignore it. If you are able to grasp it, then maybe you relate it to something you do know. Up until now, it's worked like a charm. Apparently, however, one of the members had a problem. And even though I apologized to the moderators when I was alerted that the community didn't like very specific posts, the person felt just compelled to post that.

So, take it if you wish.

I guess I may see a little of where this man is coming from . . . I do occasionally feel uncomfortable about straight men lusting after lesbians. That might be partly or mostly a feminist distaste of the "male gaze" type thing, though . . . wow, only a month into my women's studies class. Anyway, it's only a gut reaction, not an opinion.

What I think, though, is that he may be irritated because he feels like straight women are trying to appropriate "being attracted to the Queer Eye guys." Like it's their thing. I think I've seen that discomfort expressed by a gay man when talking about the slash community . . . somewhere . . . once?

Not that he's right. He's very not. Nobody owns the rights to fantasy, and it's certainly not like straight women who are attracted to the Fab Five are claiming that the guys should/could want them/be straight, or whatever. They simply fantasize, which is perfectly harmless, and doesn't oppress anyone in itself.

We can fantasize about whoever the hell we want, is what it boils down to. Of course. I mean, hell, fantasy can cross the lines of "real"-life preference even which is why I can be a lesbian and yet read maleslash smut right before bed specifically for fantasy material . . . *koff*

Wow, I feel ridiculously meta. Obviously Spring Break needs to hurry up at arrive so I can lose this academic mindset.
