Minor Trigun Wank
Does it matter which songs are appropriate for fictional characters? Apparently it does to some fans. A discussion about "theme songs" for Trigun characters starts on the Trigun Yaoi Yahoo! Group. "Neoma"(SheWerewolf130) starts with her suggestions for each character. A few people agree, and then

KMH : I really do not think any of the songs work. Vash does worry about things, and is not always the happy-go-lucky fool we imagine him to be. I think a much better theme for Vash would be something both sad and happy- Ode to Joy or more possible How Soon is Now by the Smiths.

Wolfwood I see as a more blue/jazz fellow- Brother Can you Spare A Dime? or Bless the Child.

Knives or possibly Legento- The Devil's Trill

I would love to indulge you all with my opinions, however, I really must be off- Ta.

"Neoma" comes back with "Hellooo! It was supposed to be funny! Duh. Get with it silly, they arn't real people!" and "WB" replies with
Ah, but thoughts are also energy and energy is real. WIth the limited capacity of the brain mankind is only capable of using, who is to say what really is infact real and not? Descartes, Plato and Kant would have had a mayday with this one. For all we know Vash, NIck. Legato and Knives all exist in some other dimension or level of existance and perhaps Nightow merely tapped into that dimension. Hmm. Somethng to think about.
Love and Peace!!!
WB

Personally, I don't really care what music "fits" each character. It's not exactly my first thought when I'm watching anime.

I've got a SEVERE tendency to make songcalls; however, informing someone else that theirs are /wrong/ is, well... wanky.

So there.

As a vidder, yeah, I have the same problem... I find songs for everyone and everything...
but I agree that being disagreeable about someone else's picks is just rude.
The pseudopsycho(fill in the blank) addendum to the above is priceless, though :-D

I am SO GLAD I'm not the only one who randomly gets character songcalls.

And I third the motion/comment/idea that going "OMG UR W0RNG HEHA" about theoretical theme songs is just lame-tastic. Like, who cares?!? I'm gonna keep thinking of 'Becoming' in association with Kaiba Freaking Seto and there's nothing you can do about it. n33n3r.

Ditto and ditto and ditto, and ditto to the post above, too. I mean yeah, sometimes I think they're way off the mark, and I may think that their idea of the character's personality is on heavy doses of crack, but that's also my opinion, as another fan.

Though I have to laugh hard at the "How Soon Is Now?" call. It's not wrong; I'm just laughing at it, in part because it conjures up mental images of AngstyTeenGoth!Vash. aheheh. aheh. hem.

*snicker*

OT: Some F_W terms
[info]khym_chanur
2004-02-25 10:44 am UTC (link)
Some F_W terms I'd like some info on:
  • "World's smallest violin": I understand what it means from context, but where did the term originate?
  • "Hive vagina": how did this come to be a nickname for F_W?
  • "Intellicock": what in the hell is it?
Thanks in advance.

"Intellicock": see Victoria Bitters, including back links to previous wanks. Well worth the time.

The first time I heard the phrase "world's smallest violin" was in the movie Reservoir Dogs [sp? I'm a moron, that's one word I can't spell].

Dunno if that's the origin of the thing, but that's my guess.

I think it's a lot older than that. Seems like I remember it from my high school days, and that was back when dinosaurs roamed the earth.

My mom used to say the "smallest violin" thing to me when I was growing up, a good twelve or thirteen years ago.

Descartes, Plato and Kant would have had a mayday with this one.

Where as I am sending out a mayday of my own over the grammar and, uh, idiocy issues some of these people are displaying.

And oh! I almost forgot: I won't take your complaints with song selection seriously until you learn how to correctly spell the characters' names. That will be all.

I found myself wondering if she meant 'field day' instead of 'mayday'. At least that makes sense at a colloquial level.

Me? I'm gonna be haunted all day by visions of Plato sending SOS messages while Descartes and Kant dance merrily around a decorated pole.

But there's an opposing camp who's like OMGLOLVashistehfunnehLOL. (Generally, not to stereotype, 15 years old and male.)

I, personally, dislike both ends of the fandom.

...actually I dislike a lot of things about this fandom, including its "Vash isn't me the same dorky glasses-wearing shmuck who stars in every other anime on the planet, so the whole series sucks" backlash.

I'll just sit in the corner and hug my swag in peace, thanks.

Yeah, and then I started laughing.

(I try to avoid the large-scale overuse of the song. Lalala-I-didn't-just-hear-that-car-commercial-lalala...)

I love the song (in part because it is melodramatic) and I am one giant Trigun fangirl, but you know... I like jalapenos and I like ice cream, but...
