"You seem to criticise a lot"
[info]fanficrants brings the wank once more. [info]lence, who doesn't seem to have read the community name, starts the ball rolling. It's classic "If you don't like it, don't read it!" stuff, in which she manages to patronise the entire community by psychobabbling,, suggesting it is frustration over thwarted personal desires that makes people criticise badfic:

Why? Why do you even bother to pay attention if it is that bad? Why can't you leave it alone without any judgment? You should ask yourself that questions more often.

Actually, the answer is very simple: You wanted to see your fav. characters (for instance) in new, unknown situations, those which would thrill you. Which would make you happy or even fullfill your desires ( slash) Am I not right? And then you are suddenly disappointed. BAM! since you don't get what you’ve been expecting. This leads to confusion and this to annoyance, even to anger.

She also claims that:

You forget that the majority of fanfiction writers are underaged, barely 12....15/16 years old.

Most of the commenters try to point out that a LJ comm called fanficrants is going to have quite a bit of, well, ranting about fanfic. There's also delicious numbers of personally offended posters pointing out that, well, they they were simply brilliant writers and members of fandom at twelve, so don't be so mean about twelve year olds! (Serious giggles at smirnoffmule's contribution to that thread, by the way.) Makes me weep for this comm, in fact, wilfully depriving itself of the input of preteen children...

To me, though, it doesn't become true wank until the OP shows up again, seeming remarkably unprepared for the community not having read the post, seen the light and amended their ways:

I better should have left some things out then, eh? Stupid me. Anyway, you are right. Of course you are. How could you not? It's all about arguing and dis/agreement and I see my selfish pouting now.

Ah, passive aggression, how do I love thee! With a passion almost as great as that I hold for Terribly Gifted, Precociously Mature Twelve Year Olds.

(Note: I don't want any of this to be taken as mocking the OP's English skills, as I fully realise that communicating in a second language must be a right pain in the whatsit.)

I can't decide what's worse, the deeply precocious twelve-year-olds or the put-forth belief that twelve-year-olds should be accepted for writing like twelve-year-olds, goddamnit!

(God help me, at age twelve I was writing teenage foursome Animorphs fanfics and alien interspecies incest. I wipe a nostalgic tear from my eye.)

At age twelve I didn't even have a damned computer. *shifty eyes* What? It was 1990. You wanted something interesting back then, you watched TV or read a book. >.> <.<

I loved this part, from FunWithRage (who writes with a disappointing lack of THE ITALICS OF RAGE!, IMHO):

"Most people write Mary Sues? Yeah. And most people jerk off. There may not be anything innately bad about either, but they still aren't things anyone else needs to see."

That quote should be gold-plated and placed on a shelf.

Am I wrong to think this person's attempt at psychoanalyzing everyone in the community is amusing?

That sort of thing is always silly, whether it's the "You write MarySues because there's obviously a hole in your life," to "Anyone who writes rapefic will become a sociopath," to "You only criticize my story because you're jealous."

You forget that the majority of fanfiction writers are underaged, barely 12....15/16 years old. How can you expect perfect style, punctuation, correct spelling, character depth, language/cultural knowledge, way of presenting, right characterization, canons etc. etc.

Because there's a little thing we call school, dear *pat pat*.

Yes, and there are these stacks of paper covered with some more or less colored cover and some squiggly things on the front? And there are even more squiggly signs inside? We call them books and they actually help to further education and writing skills. *offers that imbecilecute little girl a chocolate chip cookie*

Maybe at ffnet, but not as a general rule. I know lots of people older than me from the fandoms I participate in and I'm over 24...

Meh. I wasn't involved in fandom-any fandom-at twelve. But I did know how to use correct English and I read quite a lot (often at the expense of my schoolwork).

Ooo, give me some of that "when I was 12" wank. Lesse, when I was 12...

I had good grammar, punctuation and a large vocabulary.
I couldn't type.
I was more perverted than at any other time in my life.
I was smart enough not to broadcast that.
The angst! Oh, the angst!

I dunno, it's a tough call. Since I had no internet, I guess we'll never know.

I don't care if you're three, there's no excuse for Netspeak.

I wrote some shitty original fiction Mary Sues at twelve. The punctuation and grammar were just fine, but in terms of plot... *cringe*

Though thankfully I only submitted my long suffering mother to that-and I doubt that even if I had a computer back then, I would have unleashed it upon the world. Because deep down? Even I knew it was crap.

well, not everyone can write at age twelve. most people can't write at age twenty-two. i don't think that it means that they shouldn't be able to come to the party and play. but if you join a beauty contest and you're ugly, i guess you shouldn't whine or feel hurt when you get tomatoes thrown in your face, ya?
