WebComic Wank - Someone's Irony Meter's Malfunctioning

</a></b></a>[info]with_gusto is a webcomic on livejournal that takes 1950's style clip art and captions it.

Sadly </a></b></a>[info]prettykate thinks that one of the captions just isn't funny.

Various readers disagree. In the comments, the author provides an alternate caption.

[laughs]

Okay..wait.

So this person finds the caption unfunny, and although she finds the other stuff with_gusto has done funny, this one unfunny one is enough to unfriend him.

Honey, was that supposed to be a threat?

Psst, today is Day of Stupid People. Clearly said person is exercising their right.

Ooooooh...I don't have that down on my calendar. I'll make a note. Heaven forbid I infringe on her rights to be stupid.

I'll try to be a bit more sensitive in the future. Maybe some diversity training is in order...

Ah, no. fandom_wank is forever exempt from such things.

(I named today thusly due to the AMAZING AMOUNTS of insane ignorance I managed to find in a one-hour browsing session. The internet hurts).

Right. Exempt.

(I named today thusly due to the AMAZING AMOUNTS of insane ignorance I managed to find in a one-hour browsing session. The internet hurts).

I wonder is there is something special going on. Is it because it's friday? The last work day of the month? Moon phase?

Maybe they've just given Moronville Broadband or something.

I found this extremely funny. It hurt my broken ribs to laugh so hard.

Oookay. It was funny, but it wasn't that funny. It was more "hahahaha. Now where's my prune juice?" funny.

I think the "broken ribs" part was meant to be satire as well.

I thought of "Mommie Dearest" too, although that movie gave me hives.

Damn it. I can identify satire from real idiocy when I see it.

Really, I can.

No, really!

I was surprised today's comic didn't get more of a reaction. Favorite comment: Your grayscale doesn't have enough grays in it. You racist motherfucker. Hee! Saw this while reading a "Passion" tangent. I'd already decided not to see the movie. The merchandizing just cements that decision. Ew.

*clicks on the pic links*

ugh. Just...ugh. Oh all the religious related merchandise I've seen this is probably the most foul. It isn't even tacky (although most tacky Christian merch is funny. Holographic key-chain savior anyone?) it's just disturbing.

I was planning on seeing "The Passion" but I think that'll just rent a movie that actually celebrates Jesus Christ's life, maybe a nice stop motion one. From what I've seen this one really doesn't. Mel Gibson seems more focused on the violence than the teachings. Worse still, people are taking children to see this, not realizing that the violence could psychologically scar them and possibly put them off religion forever. Gah.
/rant

*sigh* Sorry. I've just needed to vent, and that "necklace" just set me off.

While this doesn't trip everyone's "ew!" meter, I think my reaction was similar to yours. Disturbing is a good word for it. Marketing replicas of crucifixion implements to promote a movie? There's tacky, there's tasteless, and then there's "WTF were they thinking?"

Despite my intense hatred of the song I'd reccomend The Little Drummer Boy claymation special.

And I think Animaniacs did a rather kick-ass version of that song as well.

Hmm...sounds good. I was actually thinking of one I saw years ago as an Easter special on tv, but I think it was done by the same people.

*giggles* My dad has a Buddy Christ in his office, but since it's Buddy Christ I guess it doesn't count. :)

i got a kick out of that one as well. mostly because i once saw some tv sexpert extolling the virtues of oral sex, right down to the high protein level of semen, and my first thought actually was: "well! i suppose blowjobs are atkins approved, then!"

is it great minds that think alike, or hopelessly twisted ones? or are they, perhaps, one and the same?
