A pipe? No! ([info]also_not_a_pipe) wrote in [info]fandom_wank,

I think that the colorbar fad is getting wanky strong enough to count as a fandom, but I'll move this over to otf_wank if anyone would rather I did.

There's nothing there now but a C&D-ish notice from the LJ abuse team. but apparently my_solution posted some colorbars to the group. Some people compliment him in the comments. Some challenge his ownership of the bars.

Sup? Plagiarism, apparently. Pleromaboy made one of the colorbars first, and can prove it. Not only can he prove it, he's even willing to follow the troll to its cave. My_solution doesn't care, though. Neither does his sockpuppet friend _fallen, who proceeds to sneer at pleromaboy over the matter of a mod-deleted comment in the community.

Then the moderator, jessiker, steps in to ban him as long as he's okay with it. The thread kind of breaks down after Pleromaboy asks her not to delete the post, as the LJ abuse team will need it. A bunch of trolls start talking to each other, all using the "look at all this stupid blinking shit!" icon, and the whole thing gets very weird.

_fallen suddenly claims that he made the colorbars and plays the offended innocent. The thread likewise turns really weird after ekevu defends what is his.

Pleromaboy makes a snide comment about invite codes. _fallen and quasidan laugh at him, and the whole thing just kind of stops. Ah, but what a ride it was.

What the fuck are... color bars? The supposedly plagarized ones are now taken down by LJ abuse staff.

I presume they're like these. You know, color bars with the rainbow colors, it started with the "marriage is love" one to support gay marriages.

And the furry bashing begins too.

There ought to be a law about that, if someone drags in furry or anime mocking because they're being fucktarded trolls and getting called on it, they're automatically losers.

Forgive my extreme and overwhelming ignorance, and know that I am ashamed, but what exactly does "furry" mean in this context? I'm guessing they're not mocking the slightly fuzzy. That would just be wrong.

Furry = people who are "interested" in anthropomorphic animals. In other words, if you think Bugs Bunny is hot.

It would be better left up to someone who actually is a Furry to explain, since I'm not one and I'd likely blunder up somewhere. But in case someone decides to be a narrowminded shit get witty, I'll preemptively point out that no, they're no sick, twisted freaks into bestiality. There's F_W'ers who are Furries, and if any of them see this, I'll leave it up to them to pipe up.

Furrydom is kind of a split thing. Some people, usually calling themselves otherkin or such, feel that they are the reincarnation or blending of an animal or animals. Some people just identify themselves ~as~ or identify ~with~ a certain animal, oftentimes represented by an anthropomorphic version of the animal, basically an animal with human characteristics. With some people it's a spiritual thing, some people it's a cool fad, with some people it's because they just enjoy the idea.

Furries have a bad rep because many of them are seen as being sex crazed freaks who wack off to images of Bugs Bunny (dressed as a woman or not). Furries and anybody related to furries have a tendency to be looked down on or made fun of even by groups that are traditionally made fun of themselves (Star Wars/Trek fans, anime fans, computer geeks, etc). Since they ~are~ rather looked down on and aren't afraid to defend themselves and spooge all over everything in the process, they tend to be an easy target for mockery and troll bait.

That's just my opinion on it though as a newbie fur. *shrug*

Guh. I feel a little traumatized. I didn't even figure out what that doggy picture was at first (I thought it was a guy in a black suit! I am such an asshat!) and one of those people had an icon of the character my username is from ... I was going to leave a little Peter Lorre love behind, but I got scared off by the doggy .... thing.

... because the brilliance that is a colourbar, involving such painstaking hours of blood, sweat and tears, must be defended to the death.

right.

i just find them kind of annoying, especially when they clog up my flist with strange, enigmatic messages like 'fish are love' or 'sock monkeys are love' or 'my hand is love'. does the rainbow even make sense for most of these anymore? are you saying that gay sock monkeys are love, as opposed to straight ones? and does that count as heterophobia?

if a colourbar falls in the forest and no one is there to claim it, does it belong to my_solution?
