Many members, myself included run for cover.

{Actually it's pretty mild till S. A. Bonasi and Wolf-chan start arguing, I think they both have good points but I'm gonna try to stay out of this one.}

Check out the Canon_Sues community to see more of SBonasi's arguments about Sues only conforming to his/her stereotypes of perfection. I mean, God forbid anyone ever think a Sue could be anything other than a "perfect" author avatar, right?

I mean, he/she trots out this stale argument AGAIN when talking to wolfychan. Here's a quote:

A mary-sue is a mary-sue because they are perfect main character who can't do anything wrong and have absolutely no flaws. Jesus is both a real historical character and a religious character.

Well-- that's not the only definition of a Mary Sue. After all, some people (myself included) think there are as many different types of Sues as different types of groin injuries.

And sorry, but the fact that Sbonasi always seems to put forth his/her definition of a Mary Sue as a fact-- rather than just his/her personal experience-- has always seriously grated.

And of course it doesn't help that sbonasi spent the first couple of weeks at the beginning canon_sue community proclaiming that no canon chacter could ever be a sue, ever. What the hell was he/she doing at the community, then?

Let's see if we can make a little imaginary mental "ZAP!" button you can push to deliver an electric shock to me every time I think about getting involved in that and ripping into Wolfychan the way I want. Post is bordering on trollish, definitely inflammatory. I mean, for fuck's sake, just swap out the religion and name for any other, and think about how fast that set the community afire. If it helps, if anyone made a similar movie about any other religion I'd wank that too.

And I really hate the idea that I can't criticise the movie because that'd be like criticising Jesus. It seems like a whole lot of the people disagreeing with my post are coming from this angle--defending not the movie but their religion. And I am honestly and truly not attacking their religion.

Heck, I thought Schindler's List was hideously manipulative and took a whole lot of cheap shots, too. Maybe for my encore I'll report Schindler as a Stu. (<==sarcasm.)

Ugh, that Sabonsai invoked one of my biggest pet peeves: quoting an entire paragraph, and then only giving a one sentence comment. It just seems so rude, like you're dismissing someone's entire argument. The amount of text you write should at least be close to the amount you quote. [/pointless rant]

I haven't seen The Passion yet, and I don't really plan to, but I thought that Wolfy_chan made a pretty interesting argument. *shrugs*

I've always thought that the most reliable judge of Sue/Stu-ness is, "Does the creator wish they were their character?" Because when you're creating character purely out of personal wish fullfillment, the other stuff (canon warping, perfection, drama, etc) kinda comes along naturally.

I can't speak for Mel Gibson, but...I *hope* he doesn't wish he was Jesus *_*

Sues as far as I'm concerned are a deviation from the original characterisation intended in any particular book. They are unrealistic in that manner.

Wolfy simply didn't have enough evidence supporting her claim other than rather superficial "facts" and the main "fact" is that she just doesn't like the way he cries and carries on and hence the rather offensive manner at which she puts across her points. (eg. Annoying origin, annoying special abilities yadda yadda.

But she does have valid points (Gibson being obsessed with martyrdom)although I don't see how it substantiates her claims that JESUS in the MOVIE was a Stu.
