The wanker has awoken!
For my first wank, I present some particularily spicy (*rimshot*) Dune wank for y'all. Now, the Dune fandom scares me at the best of times - you've got your book purist wankers who put LOTR fans to shame, your 'OMGLetoIIissohott!' miniseries fangirls, your 'Lynch's Dune is the only Dune worthy of gracing my screen' wankers... not a fun bunch, no matter where you attempt to hang your hat. But as we all know, the scariest fans are always to be found at IMDB.

In a thread creatively titled 'moviewiz_4 is an IDIOT', demonknight_xxx is REALLY PISSED OFF that anyone would dare give SciFi's Dune a bad review. Because, you know, someone might read the bad review and never see the movie! The horror! Who bothers to form their own opinions these days, anyway?

jimmycurry01 would like to point out that critisizing his English was probably below the belt, as he seems to be using an online translator. dlmell4008 says that's no excuse for idiocy.

But dlmell4008 had better watch what they say, because Sildantar, Protector of the Patriotic, is on guard.

Let's get back to Dune, now, shall we? C1pher wishes that we leave Frank Herbert out of this, especially since 'OMG you don't even know when he died you loser.' S/he also reminds us to separate book from movie - honey, that's what some like to call pissing into the wind. The occasional droplet may land in someone's eye, but it'll probably just get 'em angry rather than helping them to see your point.

Well, thank God for Worm_Rider - without them, we would never know that the makers of Master and Commander have audaciously stolen music from Children of Dune!</a>

Note to Tonybatman1 - no supposedly well thought out argument should end with the words "That's one big pile of s**t." Oh, and darklight-1138, references to ritalin don't help either.

Thankfully, johnbull23 ends it all with a healthy helping of teh foonay, and the day is saved.

Both rather small wanks, but I think that, together, they offer up enough splooge to keep us entertained for awhile. God forbid these people ever discover the little-known Bene Gesserit Litany Against Wank...

PS: So that i don't have to make a whole new post and really annoy you all, could someone tell me the name of the fandom_wank icon community? I honestly thought I knew, and then every option I tried turned out to be wrong. Feel free to call me teh stoopid *hangs head*.

'Lynch's Dune is the only Dune worthy of gracing my screen'

Well, I wouldn't go that far, but I do have an inordinate amount of unconditional love for that version. Chalk it up to Kyle MacLachlan looking good in a Fremen stillsuit. :)

Meh, I prefer that to chinlessness. I guess it's a question of whether the chin is half-full or half-empty. ;)

I'd agree with you there. The Lynch version isn't perfect by any stretch of the imagination but I do like it.

mmm...you know, I consider myself a Dune fangirl, but I still can't quite bring myself to pick up a Brian Herbert book, if only to see what people are complaining about.
Heck, I barely made it through Frank's original six books. (Once he removed the Fremen, my enjoyment of the series slowly declined.)

And OMGICON!

I joined a Dune mailing list once, and was welcomed with a bunch of guys having a dick-measuring/wank contest regarding how canon the Dune Encyclopedia is.

Needless to say, haven't hung around.

When I see book-to-movie (or book-to-TV, movie-to-TV, etc) wank, I have to resist the urge to scream at people 'They are different things! One person writes a book. One person's vision. About 50 people add their vision to a film. The director, the cast, the costume department! You can't compare a book to a movie, it's like comparing the tastes of chocolate and cow shit just because they look the same!'

Oh, hello. I'm wanking. Oops.

It's even more than that, because there are just plain different things that are possible in a book than in a movie, and vice versa, because of the different media and the different ways you need to get ideas across in either.

Oh, hello. You were just attacked by Juno's Obsession with Storytelling. Hope it didn't hurt.

No, it's from Dune. The original quote was "I will not fear. Fear is the mind killer..." It's the litany the Bene Gesserit tell themselves so that when some evil wench goes and shoves their hand in a nerve stimulator they don't go screaming mad from the pain.

Ah, who said that Frank Herbert made sense? But I do like the adjustment.

Sadly, I knew that bit about M&C using a theme from CoD in their preview. Because I'd just gotten the CD when I saw said preview in the theater. However, I thought it was COOL. Silly fanpoodles.

i didn't like 'em much either - they seemed like very elaborate, well-researched, yet still not quite up to par fanfiction to me. but all the comments related to the prequels were glowing praise and demands that all dune fans read them.

meh.

M&C wank!!! *dances* Oh my ickle fandom has come into its own at last! I knew the movie coming out was the signal for the wanking to finally begin, the Gunroom is just too literary for good wank.

And dude, did no one inform this ass hat that the alleged stolen bit isn't even in the fuckin' movie? I had to ask my Dune fan friend what the fuck song they were talking about since nothing on the soundtrack is remotely from Dune. Psh, silly wankers. *pets Stephen* That's right dear, keep making that nice wtf face.

Yeah, M&C is pretty much wankless, aside from a few people bitching about the characterization in books v. movie (which is fairly valid). And I read last night in someone's blog that she didn't think the "lesser of two weevils" joke was funny! That beyatch!

And, um, isn't all the music on the soundtrack like a hundred years old at least?
