Being pissed about the bandwidth is acceptable, in my opinion. It's the icon whining that I think is dumb. I mean, granted, I worked decently hard on the icon above - it was my first animated one! Also, when I take an icon form someone, I ask first and credit in keywords. I consider it polite. Hell, I wouldn't even mock someone who snarled about it being rude for someone to take an icon someone worked on without giving credit - is is rather rude - but the second copyright comes into it, it's bs!

It's not the icon-stealing I'd take issue with, it's the bandwidth-stealing. That shit ain't cool, and many a time, the only way to get that through the head of the thief is to apply a clue-by-four in the form of an embarrassing image.

That said, "OMG UR A THEEF" is soooo passe. Best one I ever saw was on eBay. The victim replaced her stolen images with a picture of her dog's ass, a picture of a handwritten sign reading "I STEAL BANDWIDTH," and an extreme close-up of a used cat box. Now that there is a bitchslap.

Arrrrgh. Once I started really reading my own website stats I finally realized how many foreign message boards were hotlinking my images. Netherlandish BBSes, Vietnamese, French, Russian, one from Thailand... stupid bandwidth thieves. Gerroff.

My host had the best solution I've ever heard, though: disable hotlinking and refer every attempt to do so to a 5000x5000pixel lime-green .png. If saved correctly, such a .png shouldn't be more than 2 or 3K... stretch that screen!

	I had a friend who replaced a stolen image with a 10,000 x 50 gif, listing all the euphemisms for 'cock' that she could find. Unfortunately, the page coding fixed the image size at 200 x 200, so it was just a big grey blur. (Reply to this)(Parent)
