We can't hog all the fun in our fandom
It's a well-known fact that when you add Spike the Vampire to a Joss Whedon show, wank lurks around every corner.

The latest takes place in Beamer's journal, where the raging topic of the day in the comments is "Joss suxx and Spike is an evol rapist who doesn't deserve my spit and he better not get Angel's reward", coupled with "I hate Spike, and think he's a doody-head" followed by "Do not dis The Joss in my journal" and lots of other really wordy comments.

And then someone started talking about egg rolls and I had to order Chinese.

ETA: Now the fun really beings. "Rot in hell, you stupid fanfic jackass." "Fuck off and die, asshole." It was only a matter of time.

Hm. Not the wankiest ever. Although I suppose there's still time for a flaming troll to go by there and turn it into a wankfest.

Why do people waste such bile hating fictional characters? It's really not healthy. There are enough real people in the world worthy of hate, why waste it on someone who, being fictional and only able to affect other fictional people, is entirely harmless?

I yawn at this wank. I'm sorry, but someone had to.

Well to be honest hating a real person probably isn't gonna be any better than hating a fictional person.

Actually it could be worse, because said hatred could drive you to do something you'll regret.

Hey if it was up to me we'd all focus our hate on someone like Fred Phelps, in hopes that we end up making his head explode.

*looks with interest at all the mal-adjusted people*

Of course, what I really meant to say was WHY THE HELL WOULD ANYONE HATE SPIKE? THERE'S JUST NO REASON FOR IT, beyond the fact that it gives me a handy excuse to gather him up and croon over him. But that sounded a little... well, scary, creepy, inaccurate, so I thought I'd try something different.

Meanwhile... Harry Potter, eh? What a bastard.

Hm, you're right.

*skips off to make effigy, and find some pins*

Oh, I think I could give you a few, and I don't even watch the show.

There's that gawdawful hair-do of his, for starters. It looks like a a pigeon pooped on his head in a random pattern, and he couldn't be bothered to wipe it off.

Seriously... the man's lived for a century or two, and that's the best he can do? Doesn't give you much hope for immortals.

Yeah, he is around about 124 years old. It's not like he's one of the trendy young people. Clearly, the seventies was his favourite era, and he didn't want it to end. Spike: He's like my dad in a way...

Then there's this:

Shanshu alone is something I've disliked from this season. Shanshu is NOT the name of the prophecy, it's that stupid word that Wes couldn't translate. That's all.

It was THE CHRONICLES OF ABERJIAN

Stop calling it Shanshu....

A similar statement spawns a nice bit of wank here.

Once more, with syntax
[info]mpoetess
2004-03-05 09:32 pm UTC (link)
It's 1strabid's comment about "Witness my fic, NAMEOFFIC." Having nipped over to look at said fic, I think she's just saying, in the context of the discussion, "*I* don't think the stuff about shanshu this season is coincidental; witness the fact that I wrote a fic about it. But..." etc.

I don't think she was trying to use it to prove a point about canon -- just to support the fact that she didn't disagree with that canon point. She only disagrees over what she believes the producer was intending to do about it this particular season.

It all started last season on Buffy, when Spike had that dream about drowning in footwear. Convenient? Sure. Coincidence? I think no.

All wank aside, can anyone explain the relevance of this to me? Did someone drown in footwear and I missed it? Or is it an elaborate metaphor?

The explanation I've read boils down to:

Shanshu.

Shanshoe</i>.

Yep.

It may also have been tied back to his "I'm drowning in you, Summers." comment, and how he did, eventually, get Buffy, but I I try to remember as little about Spike as possible, so.

Well, not to be too obscure about it, but a shoe store DID collapse and fall in the general direction of Spike in said episode. (So did many other things but a shoe store was noticeable mentioned)
