Short but sweet wank
This time it's about Paine of FFX-2 fame. Someone asks who "Pain" is and where she comes from. The OP gets some answers and it turns out that quite a few people don't like her very much. Then, we get this:

"Paine is an ugly short haired bull dyke who came aboard the Celcius cuz she took one look at Yuna and Rikku and thought they were easy. She was so disappointed when she discovered they were already screwing each other and they didnt want a "Manage a Trois". So, with nowhere else to go, (cuz Gippal, Baralai, and Nooj all hated her cuz they had to stay with her cuz she was there sphere recorder, and they didnt want to be around her ass) Paine was forced to stay there. And those FFX girls hate free-loaders, so she had to work to stay on the ship. Paine also had experience filming with a sphere recorder, so she also recorded Yuna/Rikku porn. And that as they say, is that. "

It's supposed to have been a joke, but not many people seem to find to find it funny.

I like how people assume that if you like Paine, then you haven't ever played anything older than FF7, because their logic is that you will unquestionably like the old games the best. I've gotten into countless arguments with "oldschool" fans over that, because I am a heathen and only really liked FFX and X-2 (I have a short attention span and like the oooo sparkly, shut up) - everyone freaks out and screams to play the old games... and... I have. I just... don't care. I must have teh sparkly.

The Paine thing Faye Faye posted was pretty damn funny, though.

The old FF games suck and are stupidly hard.

In other words, there's a new gaming heretic here. :P

Go play FFVI, and you will be amazed at the character devepopment.

I know I was!

I should get an account on that board just to tell them that FF8 was my favorite, and that I love Rinoa. They'd lynch me.

Lynch you? Man, you'd be lucky if they just lynched you. FF8 is widely disliked among the FF audience and it's tantamount to treason to like it. I tend to dislike it myself (hate the gameplay, liked the story), but then again I'm a FF heathen for different reasons (I liked FFX for instance).

It is, however, extremely amusing to see them try and have them call heathen on someone who has been playing FF since the first one. When it was first released. That makes my FF fandom older than some of the actual people involved. :)

I'd say something similar but it makes me feel damn old. To be able to actually remember playing the FIRST FF game.

And good lord could that game be a pain in the ass. Anyone recall whatitsname MechWarrior? Damn thing owned me.

Final Fantasy heathens. Is that what they call people that can actually enjoy the games without being a cynical bitch about it? I wonder what they'd think about the fact that I actually enjoyed FFIX (I liked every damn one of them, actually. Including Tactics and X-2), if nothing more for the gratuitous use of moogles and the presense of Vivi, the wonder mage. ^_^v

I need a Rinoa icon. She was one of my strongest characters. I liked her.

I've played them since they first came out long ago. I even remember when Nintendo Power ran that Final Fantasy 1 promotion and you could win your very own crystal ball! But...I hate all of the Final Fantasy games, old and new, so does that make me a super-heathen?

Okay, so "hate" is a bit strong- I have played each one (at least a little bit- the latest ones not as much since I don't own a PS2- maybe I'm missing out on a lot) and they're all sort of dull to me- I did enjoy FF7 the most, I'd say, but I just can't get into any of the characters or storylines, old or new. However, I definitely prefer the newer ones to the old- and I know it's not really FF, but I have been dying to play Kingdom Hearts! The prospect of Disney characters mingling with FF characters is too bizarre to miss, I think. Alas- see above note on PS2. Weird and evil, yes- go ahead and throw some tin cans and tomatoes at me.

As far as my attitude towards the old games go, maybe I'm just too stupid to understand the intricate plotlines of finding the FAIRY from the CARAVAN to get some OXYALE so I can go into another stupid DUNGEON and beat KRAKEN and talk to some MERMAIDS and DIE every so often. Yay, fun. Okay, that was hitting below the belt.

Now, I did rather enjoy FFTactics! One of my favorites- I simply adore that game and it's very inappropriate cuteness. I am playing Crystal Chronicles now and luuuuuuuuuuuuuuuurving it (my Yuke is a sweetiepants). I don't understand why everyone seems to hate this game...

You're a heathen no matter what you like. If you're a FF8 fan, you get lynched by FF7 fans. If you're a FF7 fan, you get lynched by FF6 fans. If you like FF9, you're lynched by FF6 fans as well. If you liked FFX... well, you're pretty much screwed, and liking FFX-2 will give people seizures.

I like to tell people I like all of the games equally, which is true. (Except for FFV, but hey... it was boring. XD) It's funny to see the stunned looks on their faces... ^_^;

It's the nostalgia talking. Seriously. Some games stand up well to the test of time. FF6 even does a reasonable job itself...but it's hardly the uber game FF snobs would lead people to believe. I don't even think it was the most entertaining ~FF~ game in the Super NES era, let alone the best RPG of all time.

FF8 might not have been my favorite, but I liked it. I also liked Rinoa. :D

Hell, I liked all the FF's fine(except for 5, but I'm going to try that one again). It's just that I have different levels of like.

I liked FFX/X-2 best. HEE! And no, it's not because of Baralai. eheh.

FF8 could be tedious to play, with that stupid junctioning system that took forever to build up with spells. And Rinoa was damn irritating too. But... come one. It had the best cast of supporting people! Seifer! Zell! Quistis! Aeris Irving! They alone made the game.

It might have been more obvious as a joke if it wasn't told in phrasing that looks almost exactly like the kind of stuff you see on the... less intelligent message boards for such things. (And considering the kind of stuff we regularly see, that's saying something.) It reminds me a little too strongly of a message one guy spammed a message board topic (on the subject of the next game's contents) with back when FF8 was coming out, detailing his sexual fantasies about the FF7 girls and wanting to get to do them all in 8.
It's also a little too much right on the nose for the kind of crap some character-bashers spout. I mean, when one of us says "OMG liek pen/pencil OTP!!!!!eleventy-one!!", it's kind of blatant that we're joking.

I don't know why people hate FF8 and FFX/X-2. While I haven't beaten any of them, (but I do have ridiculous amounts of time logged on FF8 and my secondary go through of FFX. You know that if you play FFX all night you can get to the first Evrae batlle?) Eight and Ten are so far my two favorite FF games. How much I like Rinoa depends on how she's written in the fanfics I read. I did manage to get Invincible Moon out of her once or twice *angrily shakes fist at Elnoyles. If only I didn't want/need the Ultima you can get from their Energy Crystals* Larathia is the only writer that gets me to actively like her. Mostly he's better off with the other male SeeDs or Laguna. Seymour is just plainly disturbing, Requiem is pretty cool though(took so very long to fill up his overdrive) Otherwise, I genuinely very close to love FF8 and FF10. FF8 is the spawning ground for some of the best yaoi/slash around. I'm mostly in the Seven fandom for the yaoi, as well as Cid, Vincent and to a lesser extent Reeve, Rufus and the Turks (see Conscience of the King www.midgar.net/king) in general. Sane!Sephiroth is a great thing. It's a pity FF7 didn't have voice acting. Getting Vincent is a huge bitch. Damn you, Hojo and your *bloody* safe! I haven't played much FF6 (0:08) but I have read a not-small amount of the fandom. Mostly yaoi. I liked FF9 save for the cage bit, it's annoying hard(read: got friend to do it, she is currently in Sarnia with my memory card.) I've read the guide though, and more fanfics. Kuja's just *odd*. Personally, I like FFX-2, possible diabetes risk and all. Rikku is the kind of perky, kinda hyper person that annoys me in real life, but are some of my favorite characters in video games(Also Selphie and Zell.) Besides, Goths are cool. There has yet to be a Goth or Goth-ish FF character I've not liked (Shadow, Vincent, Squall, Lulu, Possibly Auron, Paine.) Also, Gippal/Baralai interests me. Before anyone says anything, Yes, I know I have problems. The pills and shrink aren't really helping. I like (most) of my problems. I *had* this post on ffx-2.net about how in FFX you're saving the world more than in any other FF game, I used FF8 as my example, it was a good(in my opinion) long example of the craziness, but they seem to have deleted it when they re-did the layout.
