Short, but sweet. Maybe.

A debate on whether Shinra from FFX-2 and Shinra from FFVII are somehow related.

Marie Aes Sendai presents a theory. She then bitches about being ignored when others say that they think it's just a reference, and Mod-Inside layeths down the smack (or something to that effect).

Not very big (about 3 pages right now?), and I think it's already died down, but good for a quiet chuckle or two.

I like the way she presents her theory as fact.

I don't know about the theories floating around about how all the FF games are connected. I mean just because there's a Monty Python and the Holy Grail reference in a movie doesn't mean that said movie is somehow a part of MPatHG storyline.

Is it possible that maybe the programmers occasionally throw a joke or reference in there for shits and giggles?

Ah, but that's that earth logic again. This girl's working on Spira logic, or some such, and apparently the earth logic doth not apply...eth.

I like the way she presents her theory as fact.

Well, the theory being put forth isn't exactly her own invention - Kazushige Nojima, the screenwriter for both FF VII and X-2, explained it all in an interview with Japanese gaming mag Dengeki PlayStation. (I don't have a link to the interview handy right now but I'll try to find one in a sec.)

On the other hand, while a lot of what Nojima talks about the interview is suggested in X-2, it does seem like the whole VII / X-2 connection is more a pet project of his (he says as much in the interview) than something that was decided by the higher-ups. Since Nojima has since left Square Enix, it's probable that this whole thread will never be picked up again (much for the better, IMO ;) ).

There was some info about it in this previous GameFAQs wank. Like the above commenter said, though, with the more info that keeps being translated/shared about the interviews, it does seem like it's more of a "pet idea" rather than absolute 100% fact, especially now that Nojima's left the company.

I'm happy that the wanking regarding that info is still making its rounds, though. I just KNEW something like this couldn't just end with that old GameFAQs bit. XD

This sounds just like how Megaman fanboys (and fangirls) will wank themselves up into a frenzy over whether or not the various series' are inter-connected.

My answer is the same: WHO CARES?

There should honestly be a bingo sheet for wanks like this.
