"You disagree with me. Therefore, you are uninformed." (makes bitchface)
Ladies and gentlemen, there is now a thread more wanky and divisive on FT. Say hello to the Michael Moore thread!

It started off just talking about his Oscar speech, and admittedly, there were some good points being made.

But then della-femina, the American ex-pat who now lives in Britain and thus feels like she's the authority on all things British/European, started posting. Of course, that post is probably one of her more tolerable ones in the thread. In later posts, such as this one and this one (what a plethora to choose from!), she basically talks in circles regarding her view on the war. I won't give my take on it, but suffice it to say that she believes that anyone who's not for the war is unintellectual or uninformed.

And here's where she gets pretentious:

d-f: Dennis Miller could be a toothless, cumguzzling whore in the gutters of hell and he'd still be right about Michael Moore. I guess that's what makes the ad hominem against Miller necessary: if you can't find fault with the words, go after he who uttered them.

boweeble: Most of Moore's critics here, have "gone after he who uttered the words,"yet failed to address in any significant way what it is he actually said.

d-f: I can only guess from that statement that you haven't read about 85% of the posts in this thread. We've covered a great many of his lies and deceptions in detail, and exactly what it is he's saying that is so risible, questionable and/or downright inaccurate -- to the extent that this forum, which is supposed to be about celebrity and not politics, allows. We absolutely could dig deep into the issues of war and elections and Bill "This war will be over in a flash" Clinton (one of Moore's other favourite targets), but then Wing Chun would have to remind us for the fifth time to take it off the boards.

There's much more from where that came from, but it would take too damned long to post all the wanky goodness. Hell, even Wing Chun herself has seemed to get rather pissy at d-f, among others:

It occurs to me that a lot of posters are just reiterating their positions over and over and over again. Maybe there is a more worthwhile use of some posters' time and energy.

This is the same sentiment that got a previous thread in another forum closed. I have a feeling this thread will be dead soon. Which is a shame, 'cause it's so funny watching d-f thinking she's the intellectual superior to everyone else.

Those links to individual posts don't work. Boo.

All of the even-only-tangentially-related-to-war threads on FT are veritable hotbeds of wank, but yeah. I've been reading and posting and rolling my eyes at d-f there for several years. Dude! You! Are! Not! Actually! British!

I stopped reading the Michael Moore thread a few weeks back. For the same reason I stopped reading the Roman Polanski thread. Arguing, arguing, and more arguing and some self-righteous moral posturing thrown in for good measure.

Say what you will about Wing Chun, she does manage to keep wanks to a minimum on those boards.

Oh, and Scheherezade? Hee.

d-f totally has the Madonna syndrome.

I apologize for the shittiness of the links, and I'll try and edit them to link to the page. Of course, that would require me going through the thread again, but sometimes you have to make sacrifices for the wank.

I used to not mind d-f so much until recently, when she went all Andrew Sullivan on everyone. Except that she's upped the pretention level to infinity (on a scale of one to ten). And her weblog is even worse.

You know, as much as I believe everyone is entitled to his/her opinion, I also believe that everyone is entitled to respect opinions of others (well, maybe except Ann Coulter's, heh). She seems to be lacking in that regard.

You make it sound as if Wing Chung getting pissy is a rare occurence.

No, I meant it as, "Even Wing Chun can't seem to disguise her distaste for D-F well enough." There may be other posters she isn't fond of but aren't trollish enough to be booted off FT, but, other than the obligatory warnings, she hasn't seemed to openly say that she dislikes them (no matter how veiled).

della-femina, the American ex-pat who now lives in Britain and thus feels like she's the authority on all things British/European.

Actually, della-femina feels like she's the authority on all things, full stop. For some real good wankiness, I suggest the now defunct "War, American Style" in the Television forum on FT. I posted a fair number of retarded things on that thread myself (and did agree with her sometimes), but she seemed to think it was her personal soapbox and repeatedly smacked down anyone who dared to disagree with her.

I especially liked when she tried to tell me that I was all wrong about Canadian policy towards the war, based on a completely wrongheaded argument without any evidence. Yeah, gee, I wouldn't know anything about what my own government is doing.

And then some other poster came in at the end of the thread and bitched her out. They were also bitchy, presumptuous and wrong about a lot of things, but a rumble is always fun.

It actually would have been an interesting thread if Wing had told DF to knock it off about 15 pages earlier.
