My ~~parody~~ very very serious (OMG!) response to this:

I hope you realize that comments like this aren't just fun things to be thrown around lightly. Unless you're trying to say something about your total lack of a sense of humour (and I've not heard anything to this effect, but I'm pretty sure I'm right). I'm not sure it's entirely appropriate to take a silly piece of graphic that is fun to some people and use it to proclaim your belief that parody is bad.

I don't have a problem with the colour bars myself, but just because one gay friend of yours thinks it's okay, doesn't mean it is. I've heard gay people soundly mock the idea of gay marriage altogether, but that doesn't mean it's just fine not to allow it; it's just that gay people aren't a hive mind and don't always agree with each other.

Personally, though, I think the main problem with colour bars is that they're just a bit crap.

	I gotta say I never really understood the whole colorbar thing... until this point, I didn't even know what they were originally supposed to represent! I think the humourless Grobag fan almost has a point, myself. It's something that's quite important to some people's real lives, and then fangirls come along and spill their shallow fangirl seed all over it. Especially when people use it for, say, het couples. ~~It's like using an AIDs ribbon to wipe your shared needle clean.~~ Or like something less reactionary. I don't know. Maybe I just find fangirls offensive.

	Well the original colorbar was very much preaching to the choir. They aren't changing minds or laws. They don't even generate intelligent debate. Colorbars are pretty and can be fun. If you want to change the world LJ is probably not going to help. /2cents (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

	Actually ... the colorbar meme generated two intelligent debates that I'm aware of, in my small corner of LJ. This only happens if the person posting the colorbar isn't only friended by people that agree with him/her, of course. (Reply to this)(Parent)
