Here we go again, more fun XFWank
You'd think that a show which has been off the air for coming up on two years now would die quiet death, but no, the insane fandom of The X-Files just keeps on wanking.

Here is a fun little thread from the Cow Pasture discussing the EVOL that is Gillian Anderson.

As an extra added attraction a complimentary thread from the Snoggers.

I have a sick feeling in the bottom of my stomach that this is only the beginning.

I haven't been active in this fandom for a year and a half, only keeping up through f_w and occasional visits to my old haunts.

It's disturbing nice to see that some things never change.

God forbid, David Duchovny OR Gillian Anderson enjoy their privacy or like...have an opinion of their own. Even if it isn't what their fans want to hear.

Liva has the best one:

[quote from the article:]<
[Error: Irreparable invalid markup ('<she [...] don't>') in entry. Owner must fix manually. Raw contents below.]

Liva has the best one:

<blockquote>[quote from the article:]<<She has, she thinks, probably even said she would never do another film if it means doing another press junket. "It feels so masturbatory, and it feels so fake, and I just don't understand why it has to be, why when someone is promoting a film they have to go and do four solid days, nine hours a day," she says. "The fact that you have to be raped in the process, have to be violated, ad nauseum ...>>

Tell that to the women who work two or more jobs every day to support the three kids that they choose to raise in their very own homes! GA makes more for her paltry little efforts than most women will see in ten years and then has the gall to complain about 36 hours of her life--four solid days, nine hours a day! Oh woe is me.

For millions of single mothers in the world, a vacation is when they get a week off of one of their jobs--if they're lucky enough to work a job that has benefits. I can't seem to dredge up a whole bunch of sympathy for poor, victimized Gilly.</blockquote>

How dare she feel victimized? We're <i>much</i>more victimized than her!!122!

Liva also completely seems to miss this part of the story: "Anderson's Dana is on stage the entire time. 'It's exhausting," she says. "But good exhausting. I'm ... you know, it's my decision. It's not like anybody made me do this.'"

I'm getting that Gillian likes working on stuff she likes, and hates working at stuff she hates. That bitch!

<blockquote>But the Gillies at BNC think she has "balls." That kind of balls can keep you out of the game for a long time if those quotes are read by anyone making money decisions on a film.</blockquote>

Yeah, Gillian says she doesn't want to be in another film. Hahaha! She'll be sorry when she doesn't get to work in another film! That'll show her.

Ah, you exposed the lunacy brilliantly. I don't even have to wade into the wank-- because of you, I can view it at a safe, remote distance.

And seriously... anyone else get the feeling that they're mostly bitching because gasp! Gillian Anderson has moved on from X-files and they haven't? 'Cause all of this smacks of some sour-ass grapes to me.

The snide remarks to the "DD" fans seem to indicate that it's more about the rival fandom camps than it is about the actors themselves.

That's pretty much what the whole fandom has turned into over the years. I don't even thing these people watch the show anymore, they just go on and on about how their little corner of the XF fandom world is the bestest and the rightest.

Between the DDFanatics, the GillyFangurls, the snoggers, the classic fans, the next gen fans, the CC fans, the Anti-CC Fans and the bitter XF Fandom has become quite a little circus.

Stupid Question

2004-03-16 06:56 pm UTC (link)
I'm going to ask a completely stupid question, but you folks seem nice enough. I'm rather new to this "wanking," and I find it hopelessly entertaining. I was wondering though, what exactly is a tin/tinhat? I finally just figured out what MST stood for. Anyway, if anyone could explain this, or any other important terms, it would fantastic. I only marginally understand what is really going on....

Wow, you really are new, aren't you! ;-)

A tinhat in its non-fannish meaning is someone so delusional that they are considered on par with people who line their hats with tinfoil to keep out the spacerays/government telepaths/evil satanic radio messages, etc.

A tinhat in fandom wank terminology refers specifically to a group of fans who believe that Lord of the Rings actors Dominick Monaghan and Elijah Wood are secretly dating, and everything that's ever been said in public to imply that they are not, that one or both aren't gay, etc., is a plot by the public relations department of New Line Cinema (who produced the films) to keep the poor boys from declaring their love in public. Since being associated with gay actors might damage the marketability of the multiple-Osacar-winning film trilogy. Despite the fact that one of the other lead actors, Sir Ian McKellan, is openly gay.

People who write Dom/Elijah fiction aren't tinhats. People who say "They're so cute together! Look at the way they're all over each other in those pictures! Theymustbeinlove! Er. In my perfect world." are not tinhats. People who say "I don't know. Could be. Would be pretty hot if so" and go about their business are not tinhats. People who obsessively follow what color shirt Dom is wearing, what hand signals he makes when he waves to a crowd, and who might have spent the night at whose beach house, people who light candles that the pure true love of Dom and Elijah won't be sullied by [whoever is allegedly attacking the relationship this week] are tinhats.

Also applicable to fans who develop similar cults of "No, really, they're serious, they *believe* that" insanity about other actors/performers.

... I don't know. This rather turned my head:

When she was STUPID enough to get knocked up during the first (and very much on the bubble) year of the series, it was David who went to bat for her when the 1013 and FOX folks wanted to replace her.

Seems to be par for the course for those folks, though.

She was originally Moo or MooCow but caused so much trouble (she really is the Queen of the Trolls) that she changed her name about 6 dozen times and most of them had a bovine ring. I've always wondered where the cow references came from - I do seem to remember (and I'm way to lazy to google it right now) that the god himself was rumored to have termed some of his fans 'cows' or something like that. So maybe it came from there.

As you can see she goes by her 'real' name on DDfanatics. Back during the height of the wars on Haven she used to threaten law suits to those who posted this same name on the boards. It was always very neusea inducing amusing.

LOL. I mean, I like DD and all, but are people that clueless to NOT see a back-handed slap coming their way?! If he termed his fans 'cows" or something like that, I WOULDN'T take that as a compliment.

I actually just did some research (instead of work of course) and I remembered that the quote was "fat chicks" not cows. But it was close enough, however I can't seem to find the original source so I may be remembering an internet rumor or something of that type.

God, those actor-lovers are the best. There's a lot of fun to be found on Haven right now, actually, due to those actor lovers. There's this wonderfully incoherent GA lover named Irre there...I highly recommend tracking this fun down. There's another thread that's deteriorated into "Scully's EVAL for not Belivng in my Muldrrr" that's had me laughing all night.

Ah, XF wank. May you never run dry.
