The things you find looking for something else...
I was looking for the script to FFX-2's Normal Ending and I find this:

Someone I've known from Iconaddicts posts pictures of herself dressed as Songstress Yuna.

She looks okay to me and it's a pretty good costume, despite the fact that I don't like cosplay very much. But, then some anonymous assholes post and basically drive up the post count to 110 and ruin everything.

Just sad...

Yeah, because anyone who posts this:

Dear, it's not offensive. ...Stopping point. Right. You act like I'm a bloated cow that weighs 270 pounds. Now THAT is indecent exposure. But REALLY, who would you be to tell someone of that size to stop cosplaying? LET PEOPLE LIVE THEIR LIFE.
</i>

is toooootally on the side of the angels, isn't even remotely an asshole, and not possessed of a double-standard at all.

Yeah, points off for the anon's posting in her journal, but this dimwit is just as prejudiced and pathetic as the people she's arguing against.

It's okay for HER as a fat woman to cosplay, but fuck those 270 pound heifers? Right. Sure. Nice precise number there. Wonder how the stupid bint came up with it.

Either you stand up for the notion that cosplay okay for EVERYONE, regardless of body type or weight, on principle, or shut the fuck up and accept that you're always going to be judged based on broad community standards, which chances are you aren't gonna meet. Either fight the good fight, or shut the fuck up and deal.

(Also, is this really fandom wank? Splitting hairs, but it's less a product of fandom per se than lameass teenaged boytrolls.)

*goes back, rereads*

Okay, so at least she had the basic integrity to imply that the "270 pound heifers" should get to cosplay.

Still, fucking anorexic Jesus on a bardex enema nozzle, what the hell is up with the anti-fat nastiness? As long as she's 269 pounds or less, it's okay if she makes nasty comments, but the anons can't?

I think they're both nasty. Nor do I understand why in the world she'd keep feeding this argument. Screen the anonymouse and move on.

That's pretty much how I see it too. She was fighting fire with fire and it only made things worse.

I would have either ignored the anon comments or deleted them outright.

That's easier said then done.

I'm not agreeing with what she did but it was a human reaction, those guys/guy were being complete assholes for no real reason, and I can understand why she'd lose her temper.

Though it is nice to know that being overweight means I'm not human in some people's eyes.

[Just wait for the next ice age. Then we'll see who has the upper hand.]

Doesn't make it right, but when someone throws around insults, some people will insult right back.

Yeah, uh, see generally, you're supposed to insult the people insulting you. Not the people they're insulting, which includes you.

Because that would be fucking stupid.

Read the whole thread - definitely a double standard. "I'm a PARAGON OF HOTNESS blah blah curvaceous blah I'm-every-woman blah anyone thinner than me is anorexic blah blah I'm the hottest thing on earth, unlike those other hideous heifers, who should keel over and die."

Ummmmm... yeah.

FWIW, I'm sure she's a nice person blah blah disclaimer, but it sure isn't helping her case for acceptance and whatnot to say that everyone thinner than herself is "anorexic" and everyone heavier is a "heifer." So basically, the only truly attractive person on earth is... herself. Okay!

I think she's cute. She's really pretty, and you can tell she's enjoying herself in the pictures. She has a nice smile. She's having fun. I find that totally attractive. And anyway, the comments about her weight are stupid. She's not even fat! I assume she's American, and aren't about half of them overweight? She's like, average sized. But whether she's American or not is beside the point - I mean, in general, I wouldn't call her fat. If I saw her walking down the street, I wouldn't think, "Oh my God, it's a FAT PERSON!" Well, as long as she wasn't wearing that, I suppose.

There are nice-looking people with fat on their bodies, and then there are FAT tub-of-lard people that make you go, "OMGWTF?MY EYES!!!"

I know who I'd rather see in a short skirt.

And then there are those of us who give up meat, sugar, and as many fats as possible, count calories for years, exercise, and still can't even pass by the non-plus-sized section
without some dickbrain like you sneering at us.

So, um, I think what I'm trying to say, really, is fuck off.

Easy, greasy.

I'm actually more likely to be the one being sneered at. I'm certainly not all skin and bone, myself.

You seem to have misunderstood my comment, which is perfectly okay, because I guess I didn't make myself very clear. I was not making fun of "fat" people (like the girl in the cosplay pictures who people were calling fat -- I don't think she's fat at all) -- in fact, the whole comment was pro-"fat" people. When I said "FAT, tub-of-lard people", (which I admit I should not have said, and apologise for) I was referring to very, very large people who wear very small clothes. Not very, very large people in general. I think a person can weigh a great deal and still look nice, if they wear the appropriate clothing for their size. What I didn't make clear enough was that my comment was directed at the handful of extremely overweight women who go around wearing mini-skirts and boob tubes. In my opinion, it doesn't look attractive. And I'm not going to retract my comment that those women wearing those clothes gives me an "OMGWTF?MYEYES!" impression, because it does.

I'm very sorry for offending you. I never make fun of overweight people, but if I see someone who I feel is wearing something inappropriate, I will express that I don't think they should wear that. That's all. I have never, and would never say anything like "ooh, that person needs to lay off the pies" or whatever. Just that if they want to wear clothes that reveal a great deal of their body, I'm not going to think it looks good. They can still wear it, I just won't like it. I don't think it's sensible of them. *shrug*

Again, I do apologise, and will now stop wanking. *Kleenex*

Short for costume play. It's a common thing in anime/gaming circles to dress up as a favorite character. Mostly this is done for conventions and anime club events, but some fans of visual kei(Japanese rock involving lots of make-up and unique costumes) will cosplay as their favorite musicians everywhere.

Erm... non-anime fans do it too. Klingons at Trek cons, anyone? (No, we are not different from them in the slightest.)

Short version is "those crazy fans who dress up at conventions." ;)

I have to paraphrase someone here: Just because you're not swearing like a sailor doesn't mean you're flaming like a troll. The anons were trolling. The cosplayer (who I think was NOT fat, there's a middle ground between thin and fat and I'd say she qualifies) took the bait though, but I can at least understand that as a very human reaction.

The costume isn't even that revealing. Honestly, thin woman in bikinis at the mall = not indecent, yet that cosplayer = indecent? Bitch please.

My inner feminist is boiling with rage from that virginity thread too. Need a chill pill here stat.
