BBC wank!
It starts way back, when the BBC decide to bring back Doctor Who in 2005. Minor murmers emerge from BBCi (their fancy online bit) about the fact that this co-incides with a webcast animated thingy on BBCi, the makers of which weren't told about it. But, hey, oversight, bad communication, whatever. The BBCi site gets over it pretty quickly and keeps up with developments, giving us gossip, etc.

Just before midnight last night, various places start suggesting that the new Doctor has been cast (here's my LJ post at the time, just for convenient reference).

Somewhere round about midnight GMT the BBC confirm that we're getting Christoper Eccleston out of Shallow Grave. Squeeing commences, and LJ icons start appearing within minutes.

But wait! Because while the BBC news site was the official breaker of this, the BBCi had no mention of it.

And then, they replace their banner with this image.

It's since been changed back, but thankfully wank-evidence was saved beforehand by a few people on the Outpost Gallifrey forums.

My fandom - so wanky, even the people who make it have public bitchfights...
