ATTENTION! LONERS=LOSERS!
Be prepared to be completely mind-boggled by the latest rant on [info]fanficrants

My personal favourite lines? (in case it gets deleted of course)

1) Loners are very awkward in social situations. They tend to exaggerate their feelings with wild hand gestures [thus eccentric], or they just sit there and remain emotionless.

2) Unlike most fanfic writers who think loners are TEH HAWTNESS, loners aren't sexy at all. They're percieved as losers, quiet people who behave strangely. If you happen to have met one sexy hot loner who gave you his number, good for you.

3) This rant wasn't very well thought out, by the way. I'm exhausted right now.

Yeah. I'm so enlightened now.

*snigger* Yep, saw that. Was the first to reply, and tried to stay polite. Wondered how soon that thing would end up here. May have been too soon, there is very little wank yet.

I do wonder where that girl's coming from, though. She seems to be confusing 'rude on purpose' with 'lacking social skills' or 'introvert'. Granted, sometimes it's hard to tell which is which from the outsider point of view, but since we're talking fiction here we actually know which of those applies.

Not that there really is anything 'cool' about 'loners', but I disagree with both terms anyway, hence the quotation marks. I mean, isn't it a bit like hair colour, or taste in music? What I like or am doesn't apply to anybody else. If I choose to read on my own and you go to the pub instead, is anyone 'cooler' because of their choice?

This might belong in [info]i_wank, though.

Eh, there's a bit of wank, but most of it's just kind of misguided. The "loners must want to be alone, or else they wouldn't be" bit is annoying to me, because it's a common misconception

It's when the replies start breaking Snacky Jr.'s Law and talking about the mean kids in elementary school that excluded them, and the OP breaks The Law of Opt-Out Blanket Statements by saying that "I did state the words 'mostly, usually'" and "You have your views, I have mine."

Loners mutter to themselves all the time? They make wild, exaggerated hand gestures? They're bluntly rude to all members of the opposite sex? That ain't "loner" you're describing, that's "schizophrenic."

Hence my answer to that foolish post as seen in the link provided. There's no point pointing out inaccuracies in her assertions because

1) she won't agree with me
2) She's too superficial to see my POV
3)I don't want to waste time expressing my opinions on someone as intellectually challenged as her.

And the whole Please read my post properly before you make anymore accusations. thing? Puh-leese. If I read her post any closer, my IQ level would fall to minus.

Actually I think the poster has a point.

But I've never heard of things like 'wild hand gestures' or 'muttering to themselves' to be trademarks of loners.

I replied. Couldn't resist throwing in my 2 cents. I actually only skimmed through the first time, but looking at it again I realize how much the OP was generalizing everything. O_o

Never did this myself. No hand-flapping or silent stony looks of the sort.

Um, no. It actually depends on the person themselves. If girls are all about how good-looking a guy is and the guy happens to be a loner, then to them he's sexy. And not all loners are called weird people who behave strangely.

I think I sorta get what the OP was trying to say as it relates to fanfic, she just messed it up entirely. I could see her point in regards to say, fics where we have a loner-type Mary Sue who acts all bitchy and nasty to everyone while she skulks in her corner putting on black lipstick and glaring at people, and yet despite her bad attitude everyone thinks she's so cool and mysterious and wonderful. Or the fics where random fangirls write about their favorite bishounen who are the loner-types and act like they're the greatest thing ever even when they have flaws (for example, I think Sasuke from Naruto probably fits this pretty well -- he's got the "cool, angsty bishounen" thing going on, but there are plenty of times when he's really quite a big jerk. Some fangirls will ignore this and take moments of his being a jerk as some great and wonderous expression of how cool he is).

Unfortunately, the OP decided that the best way to get her point across would be to make sweeping generalizations about real-life loners and viola! Recipe for instant spooge.

Isn't this person familiar with fanficrants' history of kerfluffle, no matter how much the original poster thinks of their rant as being logical, agreeable, and/or correct? And did she say that just to mentally "protect" the sensitivity of her own logic just in case she received kerfluffle for it when, in fact, she thought she was actually making a good point?

Analytical rants receive some of the best wankage.

My LJ friends list and I have decided this gets the award for worst thought out rant ever. I mean seriously, most fandoms, by their v. nature, not populated by the "cool" kids from high school. It's the equivalent of walking into an honours society meeting and attempting to convince the room that studying is a waste of time. *facepalm*

And really, I'm v. outgoing and social, but I was fairly much a home body (still am really). As I told the idiots I went to school with fairly frequently, just because I'm not at your keggers does not mean I don't have a social life.

I've just came up with a new, shiny theory and I came to share!

Loners in Real Life won't let you in about their overabundant coolness or lack thereof, because that's what being a loner is about.

Loners in fanfic on the other hand let you in on their secrets, although it is against their very nature. Given a choice they wouldn't, but they are exhibited by their cruel author!

So, writing loner-fiction is, by definition, non-consensual.
Writing loners is rape, in a way! Say no to loner-fics!

P.S.: My horoscope says I cannot brook opposition right now.
