Can I have one of those nifty "stop being on my side, you're making my side look st00pid buttons?" Because I worked with battered women, and while it does lead me to have a greater propensity than most for bluntly telling people that I'm worried about their safety, I feel I have managed to maintain my sympathy for real people without feeling the need to go to bat for fictional characters.

She's the antagonist. From the POV we're given, she's messed with the good guy. None of the characters are going to see her as a victim of a really bad situation, they're going to see her as the bitch whose baggage hurt their friend. That's why they're (thankfully) not crisis counselors.

Possibly, I have now wanked. Oopsie!
