Return of the Yaoi Wank
Seems F_W has gone far too long without yaoi wank. And looking at this little beauty makes me so, so glad I created Yaoi Rants.

Erm...as a former member of Antiyaoi and having witnessed a lot of the previous wank at that comm, part of me is agreeing with the poster. But I'm also laughing at her equally stupid generalizations and self-contradiction, and the wank factor of barging into a comm she knows she won't like and proceeding to tell them their opinion is wrong.

Lord, what fools these fangirls be...

Het warnings aren't required with canon straight series. Het warnings would be required with a shounen-ai or yaoi series, like Gravitation. If a series is a straight series, you would expect stories to have straight pairings, hence a yaoi warning is needed.

But what if your fandom is full of straight people who act really gay, like mine?

Het warnings? I'm confused.

I had the impression that if your fic contained sexual content either het, yuri or yaoi you should slap a warning on it just cover your ass.

Are het fics exempt from this, or is the poster talking about something different?

Good fucking hell, learn what "yaoi" MEANS, you insufferable fangirl. I do agree with the sentiment that a pairing is a pairing, but the rest of it and the tone are obnoxious.

I do love this line, though:
>>-the terms "fanbrats" and "butt sex" are totally lame>>

OMG, like way lame, like, tooooooootally. LOL!

I dunno.

"Fanbrat" does describe most of the yaoi fangirls out there, and "buttsex" is actually a quite apt term for what happens in gay sex.

But as for warnings, unless there are lemons, then there shouldn't have to be warnings! Granted, lemons should have warnings whether het or yaoi/yuri/slash/femmeslash/orgyfic, as you don't want people to get upset and troll you. That's just common courtesy.

Seems to me, if I may be so bold as to attempt a diagnosis, that the problem here comes from 1) The co-opting of the term "yaoi" to refer to something it doesn't actually mean (in this context, it seems roughly equivalent to the idea of "anime slash" rather than, say, "PWP") and 2) the subsequent association of that term with a certain subset of fandom. The folks at antiyaoi seem to think yaoi fangirls are all immature 12-year-old girls who enjoy throwing straightstraightSTRAIGHTITELLYOU male characters together for no better reason than "they look pretty", when in fact yaoi fans are simply people who like gay porn.

Come on, people, say it with me: Yaoi fans like gay porn.

Thus, anti-yaoi = anti-gay porn. And you wouldn't want to be anti-gay porn, now would you? Who could possibly be so cruel as to want to deny the world its gay porn?

Meanwhile, if I were being serious, I would argue:

--Just because a character is "canonically straight" doesn't mean he can't be bisexual. And I will keep repeating it until it starts to sink in with these fuckers.

--Most pairings (that I've seen, anyway) are based on some kind of subtext. If you don't see the subtext, that's your own interpretation. Yes, it's annoying when people argue that their pairing is the OTPOMG, but a list of "proof" is always helpful if you want to see where the subtext is coming from.

--The fics that have completely random pairings and total shifts from straight to gay (with no stop at Station Bi in between) do tend to be written by twelve-year-old girls, because most twelve-year-old girls can't write or plot very well. However, THEY ARE NOT REPRESENTATIVE OF [yaoi/slash/whatever]-- they're just more annoying louder. People don't stop being yaoi fangirls when they get older, as satori_rahyne argued (unless they actually, y'know, stop liking yaoi), they just stop being stupid about it.

Although, judging by some of the wanks that have turned up here, that isn't always the case.

--We're not all like the OP, I swear.

Agreed, agreed, agreed, agreed, and in case you didn't hear me the first four times, WORD.

Although the irony of the whole thing is that this brat just...er...reinforces the stereotype that Antiyaoi is bashing by barging into a comm where they know they won't be well received and acting like a rabid moron. And then turning on the waaaaaaaaaaangst about how the comm mercilessly persecutes t3h p00r y40i f4nz. Then she has the gall to say something to the effect of "don't like it, don't read it."

I think this one would fall under "fannish absurdities."

Great points, though I do wonder why is 'they look hot together' such a bad thing?

Don't get me wrong, if you want to prove or defend your pairing this isn't the best argument, but as long as the author is willing to admit 'yeah not a chance in hell of happening in canon, I just think it's hot' I don't see the issue.

Sometimes I want plot and sometimes I want porn, if I can get both that's great, but if I can only get one that's still good IMO.

Come on, people, say it with me: Yaoi fans like gay porn.

But OMG like yaoi is art, ART I SAY!

Just because a character is "canonically straight" doesn't mean he can't be bisexual.

THANK you. This annoys the crap out of me. There are very few people who are 100% straight or gay, anyway - most fall somewhere in between. And no, I didn't know this when I was 12, but fortunately there was no internet when I was 12 either, so my foolishness was concealed from the world.

So I ran a Gundam Wing website once upon a time. It received 90,000+ hits before I had to shut it down. Yep. IT'S NOW DEAD. DO YOU HEAR ME?! DEAD! That means I am no longer particularly interested in the anime. So don't bother correcting me on my pronunciation of MY OWN HANDLE. Don't bother trying to tell me the boys' Episode Zero stories because I have this shit memorized, honey. And for the love of God don't quote my own yaoi wankiness back at me. Can we pause and recall that I was 12 and still pwned your ass?

So stop calling me your "anime goddess sister" (I can't make this shit up, folks). I <3 the anime. I don't <3 you.

Posts like that one are one of the reasons why I left Anti Yaoi too. Too much "I don't wanna hear you coz I'm right and everyone else is wrong" in there, ain't it?

On one hand, I don't have much sympathy towards antiyaoi, so I'm not exactly in tears that they got teared.

On the other, the OP doesn't seem to graps the concept of the community - particularly how they define yaoi - so he/she is so going to get slammed.

On a third hand that I do not possess, antiyaoi does make broad generalizations and can be hostile, but in many of the fandoms I have been in, the yaoi fan fictions are horrendous. (Then again, so are the majority of the fanfictions in the fandoms, so who knows.)

In conclusion, I think I shall stay with the great community that is Rachel's yaoi_rants and put further thought about creating a het community, either in general or specifically for Yu-Gi-Oh. (Yu-Gi-Oh has over five yaoi communities and one yuri one, but none for het.)

Names aren't mindlessly drawn out of a hat and plastered onto a sex story.

Really? I thought that that was the basis for Thief Bakura/Kisara. Oh, wait, I'm thinking Hanasaki/Dark Malik. Thief Bakura/Kisara is because they are the two hawtest characters. My mistake.

Oy vey.

Here we go again...

I wanted to join this comm, but thank the gods I didn't. I'm in Rachel's^^.

Dare I say that karma has fucked bitten this girl in the ass?

I agree we're not all 12 y/o females, but the really scary fangirls have a tendency to be such...*aka the ones who make men into women and don't consider it het; the ones who make angsty pairings fluffy and vice versa*

However, I get bitched at for being trans in yaoi fandom, it's happened a few times. I swear, if I ever write HOT HOT [original] M/FtM P0rn, I will be flamed with people going, "EWWW! HET!" at me.

If I ever wrote down all of my complaints about yaoi fandom...well, it'd be a long-ass post. I'm not too fond of the idea that you can take two random guys and make them fuck; this is where something called *CHARACTERIZATION* comes into play.

Also, I agree with all of you up there. Not many people swing all the way either way^^.

And yes, I <3 gay male pr0n. I just like it realistic^^.

Question?

I just wanted to ask why you hate yaoi so much? Is it because of religious upbringing or was it because you read so many fics by people who couldn't write that it got on your nerves?
I like yaoi, but I agree that sometimes a person will throw people together for the hell of it. Many times the story doesn't even have a plot, which is beyond annoying.
Do you guys know the difference between yaoi and shounen-ai?
Yaoi is basically to males engaging in sexual relations, for no reason most of the time.
Shounen-ai deals with the emotional aspect of a relationship that isn't always gay.
Sometimes people don't know the difference and they lump it all into one category.
The only thing that bothers me about some, not all, but some of the anti-yaoi supporters is they will purposely seek out yaoi or shounen-ai fanfics a bash them.
But then yaoi supporters make me mad too. They'll come on forums such as this and try to make people like something that they have already made their mind up not to like. I say leave them alone and let them think what they want. If everyone agreed all the time things would get pretty boring.
I have written some yaoi and shounen-ai myself. And I have actually gotten anti-yaoi supporters who like my stories. They tell me that they hate yaoi, but they liked them because they actually had a plot to them and it wasn't just a reason for people to engage in relations.
I hope to hear some responses to my questions. And just to say ahead of time, I'm not trying to flame or bash anyone, I am honestly interested in why some people are obsessed with things and others aren't. Sorry I'm a sociology major, I can't help it.
