I'm surprised it doesn't wank MORE, actually. Between the people that'd wanna take it as "meaningless and all good fun" and the people that would be trying to find deep and significant meaning in every strip, if nothing else.
(I don't find it hard to believe someone would take AzuDai as a serious metaphor, because I know at least one person that INSISTS that FLCL is an extremely meaningful, deep, and thoughtful treatise on adolescence.)

	The thing I love about Azumanga Daioh is, if you're gonna pair someone up, it almost HAS to be a girl-on-girl pairing. XD Unless you're gonna pair someone with the creepy teacher guy (married) or some male student OC (Gary Stu), Azumanga Daioh is yuri-only pairing. basks in the glow of a series with so many possible interesting yuri pairings Ahhhhhh... Just to be contrary:

Sakaki/Chiyo's-dad cat-thing (heheheh)
Sakaki gets exposed to Spring of Drowned Cat, and pairs up with that cat that's always biting her.
Mr. Tadakichi falls in the Spring of Drowned Boy. Instant bishounen, who all of the girls (even Kaorin) fight over. (How long before the first Azumanga/Ranma crossover fic, I wonder?)

But yeah, Azumanga does have a lot of yuri potential. Personally, I prefer grow-up-Chiyo with Sakaki or Osaka (though it'd have to happen several years after the series ends).

I just don't see the "shippyness" of Azumanga Daioh at all, to tell the truth. It's not that it's a bad series or I don't like the characters, I just don't really think of the characters in that way. ~~Which reminds me that I don't have a "Lesbians" icon on JF.~~

That said, I'm amazed that they haven't gotten a section on Fanfiction.net yet, full of femslash, Gary Stus, alternate universes in which at least half of the girls are boys, and Kimura!shipfic.

	There's only eight Azumanga fics on FF.net (I check at least once a week). Half of them are femmeslash/shoujo-ai, and the other half are short-fics that would fit perfectly into the anime or manga. (Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)
