How dare you criticize my writing?! I BELIEVED IN YOU!
It's a beautiful day in the "Skies of Arcadia" fandom over at Skies of Arcadia World.

Then "Yami Vyse" makes a post to the "Fan Creations" board in the forums, wanting to know what the community thinks of her latest fanfic.

Needless to say, a fanfic in which a 23 year old man has sex with a 12 year old girl and gets her pregnant (both are original characters, though the child that they end up having is a very minor canon character) does not go over too well with the community at large.

I don't know "Annie Felis", but I'd send her a ham and a plaque if I could, because she's the only one in this entire thing that's making any damn sense at all.

Don't miss the highlight of the wank, where Yami Vyse cries over having recieved ConCrit from Annie Felis, because "[She looks] up to [her] as inspiration..." (Felis is also a SOA fanfictionist). In a later post, she drops the old "I'M LEAVING FOREVER!!!" chestnut. It remains to be seen whether "FOREVER!!!" really does mean forever.

She also links to where one of her old fanfics was (poorly) MSTed by someone else, as proof that she really is a good writer. Uh?

Ick. Talk about hysteria. Fist she screams curses at someone for offering polite concrit and insists she's been flamed, then says the comment made her cry. Now she's saying the forum is full of "hypocrist liars" and made her big dramatic exit.

And really, writing about a 12 year old getting pregnant by a 23 year old? That's just a really, really bad idea. I don't know why she was so shocked that it upset most of the board.

This girl has the best lines. Now, it's true that English isn't her first language, but when Anne Felis offers to communicate with her in French she responds with incoherent flaming.

And love's age has no barrier.

With the stress around me that I live thought EVERY DAY, before I don't think I would even make it this far, because my whole life change when I learn why I was so different them most people. Many stress leaves and such got me complicate.

I'll never, ever, EVER, see this site in the same way ever again. Full of hypocrist liars. I might be a hypocrist, but that's because I'm in the mood to BE one.

I don't care what you think of me anymore, because I'm might never come back, and I don't care if you ban me or not, because seriously, this piece of...there's no word I know in the two languages I've learned than can describe this. Before, I really felt in, but know...I don't know what happened.

And all this is in response to people saying "Uhh, a 12 year old and a 23 year old probably won't have twu wuv and merrily concieve/bear children."

I believe it was a different poster who offered to communicate in French... and quite frankly, that remark (the way he/she made it anyway) was genuinely rude.

Still, the swearing and screaming about why no one liked her offensive and squicky idea? That's wank.

Love's age has no barrier? Um, actually it kinda does, least in real life. I speak from experience when I say that 16 and 20 may not seem like a major age difference in number, there still IS a difference. No matter how mature that 16 year old is they're still growing up in some ways. And a 20 year old can provide them with wisdom and stuff, but when you're not on the same wavelength about it (The former thinks it's the end of the world that some jerk said his/her sneakers were ugly, the latter says "don't let it bother you, just ignore them, it doesn't matter", and as true as that may be, the former may not wanna hear that. :P).

This is great, because this means that links to good Skies of Arcadia fanfic will inevitably be posted in the F_W comments. I have yet to see any SoA summary that I could get past, let alone fanfic, so let's see 'em.

Good... Skies of Arcadia... Fanfic? I know what the words mean, but together they make no sense!

Well, every now and then I find something that has promise, but then when I'm reading it, there's inevitably something about it that just rubs me the wrong way and I never even finish.

But some fics are just like that old Far Side comic with "Nature's Way of Saying 'Don't Touch'" examples. I read them anyway so I can play martyr.

(Why the hell am I still up?!)

It's an animated gif...stare at it for a while. Not that it explains anything...and it kinda ruins the vaguely creepy effect it has on it's own, and the image editing is crappy.
Doing that kind of thing with sig images and such works better if it's subtle.

I have a life. Somewhere. Really.

From Yvyse:

I was being flamed really bad. I thought it was just a newbie thing, but when I was kicked out of FF.Net, I knew there HAD to be a problem

*meekly* Yes, Ma'am. Very sorry, it's just.....so new to me. I mean, I've never been THIS flame before and...it really hurts inside.
.

(If this sentence included an “itai, itai!”, I would print and frame it as “perfect example of a RL uke.” ¬_¬)

And my personal favourite:

The moral: Before writing a story, look for an audience.

Just … gah.

Especially since she'd have to concieve at the age of 11, and that's just downright unrealistic.

Unfortunately, no, it isn't. My dad's an OB/GYN, and he gets 11-year-old expectant mothers in his office all the time. Considering girls are now hitting puberty as early as age 7, it's disappointing, but hardly surprising.

That's frightening.

When I was eleven I was possibly, vaguely, maybe going to kiss boys one day but not now. And now I feel like I must have been way behind or something.

For what it's worth -
[info]geegaw
2004-03-31 04:58 pm UTC (link)
I don't know Skies of Arcadia from a hole in the ground, but I gathered the setting is medieval europe-ish - and the average age for girls to hit puberty then was 14/15ish due to diet, mostly. And depending on which century you're pretending you're in and where, average age at first marriage for girls went as high as 24/25 - as a form of birth control mostly.

Obviously w/ averages there could have been girls able to concieve at eleven - but that would have been unusual - throughout the medieval age, whichever spot and time you're playing in.

So - to make it work, there should have been some serious explanation going on.

Because, after all, there is always Jerry Lee Lewis and his barely pubescent bride, or Loretta Lynn and her much older husband to point to as RL examples of a twenty-something guy and a tween-something girl falling in love and
having sex and reproducing.

What can I say? I'm a sucker for fanfic wanks...and the OP was wanky - she thought she was getting flamed? Please.

(And was anybody else curious as to why she got kicked of ff.net? I didn't think that was actually possible merely for writing bad prose.)

It's not so much the fact that she's 12 that bothers me, but the fact that, by her defense, they were in "love" at the time.

OMG, girl! 23 year old in love with 12 year old = not cool. I didn't read the fic itself for fear of my sanity, but if it's portrayed as anything other than a sick man performing an act of statutory rape, then...I wave my hand and go "bahh" at her.

*snerks* No words. None.

I'll never, ever, EVER, see this site in the same way ever again. Full of hypocrist liars. I might be a hypocrist, but that's because I'm in the mood to BE one.

Additionally, is she high? Because this kinda makes me wish I was.

Still, it's something that really isn't acceptable in most countries...only because not every girl can concieve at the age of 12.

But this one takes the cake, and not even from the author of the fanfiction.

Hm, the story does sound very bad...though not half as bad as the wank it produced.

Both the author's little drama princess act, and some of the audiences reactions.

They should probably steer clear of HP fic...some of the stuff out there will have them running for the hills, screaming.
