How Dare You Not Know Who I Am, After All I Changed My Name, Email, and Website to Hide From You!
A yahoo groups owner/moderator sent an invite to an alleged newbie, who was in fact an old timer in disguise. Seeing as how we're in the Star Trek Voyager fandom, offense was taken.

http://www.voyagerangel.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=239

See if you can follow the basic argument, cause I sure as heck can't. I did enjoy this, however:

"Usually I try to stay neutral and not judge based on second hand information, but here I have to say that... well, so many people can't possibly be wrong."

Yup, large numbers of sockpuppets always equal truth.

Whatever.

Considering that you can't join the group now without a complete background search just in case you're one of the enemy in disquise? LMAO

...at first I thought that was sarcasm.

Obviously, I give the benefit of the doubt. Have to work on that.

I sense wank, but it's broadcasting on a very high frequency, and I can't quite tune it in.

So, basically, Mod email Woman, saying, Woman, we like your fics and want you on list. Woman say, ha! Mod is stupid for liking fics because I am already on list with cunning different name.

What Dreamer is referring to is the basic right of an author owning their own work.

Huh? Who is fiddling with her right to own her own work? Did Mod actually email Woman to say, Woman, your fic is now mine? Why does Woman not just refuse invite and go away?

I'm confused. Although to be honest, when it comes to Star Trek: Voyager and Janeway/Chakotay, I was born confused.

Not knowing the story... but being moderator on some Yahoo MLs I can understand the following:

Dreamer (under a different alias) was a member of that group;

Mod/owner of said group banned her before Dreamer could delete her fics from the ML archive;

If she can't get in, she can't delete the fics therefore she asked the mod/owner to delete them and apparently got either no response or was ignored;

Now she's been invited back (under a new alias) but even if she was to go back in, she still could not delete her old stuff from archive.

Catch 22.

If it's the woman who keeps claiming her old emails have been stolen, she was given a week or something to stop flaming or be kicked out. But she's as wanky as they come and she couldn't fight her nature. There was a wank on this a few months back.

Yes, these are the same folks who brought us the "thank you" wank and the "stolen email" wank and of course the "I'm stalking her and she's so rude for not caring" wank. Sometimes they wank in haiku.

Over the last six months, I distanced myself from J/C fandom increasingly, though I still like the idea of J/C very much.

My first thought: The Jesus Christ fandom? Bwahahah.

Somehow my brain was morphing that into some unholy blend of Jesus Christ and that dude from Nsync.

...I really need to stop posting at 2 a.m.

Memo to self: do not click on this link at work EVER AGAIN. I almost choked to death trying not to laugh aloud.

Like, when's your birthday?

I can *so* hear JC saying that, too.

{chokes some more}

I'm just a reader also, and this is the first time I'm in a forum. I don't understand much of what's gong on here, but it seems to me that Dreamer has the right to complain about getting that invitation.

Right... I don't know WTF I'm talking about but by god I've got an opinion! And we all know about opinions, just like a$$holes, everybody's got one.

Invitations are wrong. *makes a note of it* I'll tell my mom she's been wrong all these years. And wait til I get ahold of Hallmark and give them a piece of my mind.

And the wank goes on...

No, you're way behind. It's about dictatorship and censorship!

THIS IS SERIOUS STUFF!!!

What?

Dictatorship?

What are we talking about here, taxation without representation? Is someone collecting a tax on Star Trek Voyager fanfiction? Is someone on the internet taking political prisoners? Are there people locked up somewhere for writing the wrong kind of Star Trek Voyager fanficion? Did they not get tried by a jury of their peers for this offense? Are they being drafted into some compulsary army of Star Trek Voyager fanfiction writers? Are they not allowed to practice their religious beliefs, but are instead forced to worship Captain Janeway? Or perhaps are they forced to quarter Star Trek Voyager fanfiction writers in their homes?

Dictatorship? Please explain.
