	I always though it was a-e-ri-su, but according to google.co.jp, it's エアリス・ゲインズブール (e-a-ri-su ge-i-n-zu-bu-ru). One particular site claims that Square took it from the English word "earth", which would imply that the correct "English" spelling is "Earith". I don't know why they translated this to "Aeris/th". I myself gained a slight preference for Aerith, since that's how most sites seemed to spell it and a lot of people who RPed the char did too... I actually did a bit of a double-take when I recently joined a new FF group and the player there preferred Aeris. Which is rather funny, because back when I first saw people calling her Aerith, I thought it was silly, because it made them sound like they had a lisp. n.n
But, as you said... who really cares? It's a tiny, TINY change. It's really just an extension of people wanking about whether extra U's need to be stuck in names. ("Ryouko", "Souun", "Washuuuuuuuuuuuu".)

	I am currently thankful that most of the people I know are tolerant of both spellings/pronunciations. Same with the variable pronunciations of Yuffie/Tidus/Quistis/Cecil (the gamefaqs forums are good for wank over those though). (Reply to this)
