Clay Aiken/American Idol Wank-To-Be!!
Linda Holmes at MSNBC thinks American Idol is all about "The People". Bound to piss off all IdolFen, AikenFen in particular.

No actual wank that I've found yet, but something like this is just too spoogetastic for the fangirls to pass up. All we have to do is keep an eye out.

*sits back and prepares to mock*

I don't particularly care for Clay, but even I can admit that he's talented, so the fangirly devotion to him -does- have some validation unlike, say, JPL, who becomes worse with each show.

Actually while I'm not fan of AI I think the writer does have a point.

If I've learned anything from the 'reality TV' craze it's that The People have no taste, and wouldn't know actual talent if it offered them a blowjob on the street.

Much love. And monitor-watering. I now need another glass. Nice work. XD

That Linda... I'd like to give her a hug the next time I see her. These People as she called them, were responsible for carrying shitty performer like Camille over to the top 12 and fantastic performer such as Jasmine and Diana to the bottom three. It's just so mind-boggling how is it that these People would actually vote for John Stevens and John Peter Lewis. They are a huge embarrassment to the American Idols in the history of all American Idols competition.

Yes I'm bitter. But I also support Fantasia and truly hope that she wins because she's the only one who sounds different from the entire lot.

Different does not equal good. I'm sorry, but I find her voice extremely annoying.

I love John Stevens. A lot of his votes, btw, come from here ("here" being his hometown and surrounding area) because we know what he can do, and we all want him to win XD
(However, I should also note that I usually don't pay attention to AI. Haven't much liked the last bunch of singers that won anyways)

So what's the answer? How can it be stopped? Fairly simply, as a matter of fact. Votes shouldn't be cast for who you like; they should be for who you want to see eliminated.

What about one phone, one vote? Far easier to implement, and it wouldn't change the rules this far into the AI... thing.

This is just wank waiting to happen. She might as well have put a counter at the end of the article. Wanksplosion in fifteen minutes and counting...

Wow. I boggled at this on the Television Without Pity forums and I boggle at it now: if you're a music snob, why the hell are you watching American Idol? It's a freaking reality show. While I happen to think Clay Aiken is incredibly talented, he was an anomaly. Of course people with no taste are going to watch and vote. Of course they're going to pick favorite performers and vote for them every week, regardless of if they get up on stage and juggle blowtorches and puppies. That's the point. If you don't like it, watch something else.

And it's not like the same thing doesn't happen in the popular music industry proper, either. Plenty of "pop stars" aren't all that talented, but they sell records anyway. Talent alone doesn't cut it; charisma and, as she put it, "the ability to attract obsessive personalities" matters just as much, maybe more. Maybe that's not the way it should be, but it's the way it is. No reason to criticize Idol alone for this; it's just echoing trends that happen in all forms of media, because in general, people are stupid.

There. I brought a little bit of the wank to you, because I know the anticipation was just killing you. Thank you, I'll be here all week. :P

WORD.

Honestly? This was just a shitty article all around. It meanders, makes no real point, and ends up with a fairly vicious solution (would YOU want to "vote against" some hopeful 16 year old? I'm sure some people would, but most people would feel guilty). She says that The People are fickle and their crazed devotion can't be sustained for very long because they're always moving on to the Next Big Thing... then she uses Clay Aiken as a prime example. Has she not realized he's inching toward quadruple platinum any day now even though it's been a year, and that he's set to have the best selling single two years in a row?

God, I've never seen anyone so thoroughly mistake whining for journalism.

Jesus would like to make it known that he is not usually green. He simply had a bad paintballing experience. He says he won't level any accusations, but thinks that it's interesting how Lucifer's paintball gun was the only one that didn't jam.

Seriously. This season is the most craptastic ever. Back when Paula and Randy kept going "This is the best top 12 evah! *squeal*" I was already thinking "WTF?!" and that was about a month ago.

The following people deserve to be around:
Fantasia
Jennifer
Latoya
George
Jasmine
Diana

... that is all.

I'm in a choir, but I'm not a great singer. I have little range and no clear tone. But I can sing the right notes.

To my great disappointment, I find myself thinking that if I'd tried out for the show this season I not only would've made it through, but probably would have gotten as far as the top 32.

And that is just sad.
