X-Files
Anyone remember this wank about the fans campaigning for a second X-Files movie? According to the news, From today's paper:
Duchovny expects 2nd 'X-Files' movie
The Associated Press
LOS ANGELES -- David Duchovny expects that Mulder and Scully will ride again one day.

Duchovny said a second big-screen installment of "The X-Files" remains in the works. Though he doesn't know the plot, Duchovny said "X-Files" creator Chris Carter has signed off on the story premise.

"I'm dying to hear it," the 43-year-old actor told The Associated Press in an interview for his new movie "Connie and Carla," starring Nia Vardalos and Toni Collette, which opens April 16. "So now it's just a matter of making sure everybody can get together at the same time and do it."

"I'm at the point where I finally miss it," Duchovny said. "I wanted the grind to end, but I never wanted the show just to end. And I'd always had this fantasy and hope that it would be a movie franchise. Hopefully, this second movie will give it a foundation as such."

I'm surprised that for once, wankery actually accomplished something.

how can we be sure it was the wankery that did it?

for all we know, this was probably Chris Carter's plan all along. [/conspiracy theory]

Think about what you're saying! Chris Carter? With a PLAN? Not possible.

Oh, the movie has been tossed about in interviews with both David and Gillian ever since the end of the series, and since both of them had expressed interest in doing it, I highly doubt the wankery had any affect on it whatsoever. Did they even get the ad out, ever?

A few bit and pieces but nothing huge. My Dark Places sounds like it could be interesting, however.

But yeah, the X Files film is probably a career going downhill and needing money thing.

Well, if it was the fans who brought that decision about, in the first place, then it's definitely not without precedence.

I found this old article on show cancellations & fan campaigns rather funny:
Mark Juddery:The Show Must Go On

Particularly, I loved this quote about the Simpsons:
'While reviews and ratings are still good, the fans take it far too seriously. "That's why they're on the Internet and we're writing the show," producer Ian Maxtone-Graham has said.'

I've officially given up on campaigns. The net result of a successful revival campaign is usually a bunch of embittered fans so pissed off by the initial cancellation that they spend the last season bitching about how horrible all the episodes are. Plus, I've found it more and more difficult over the years to work up that much righteous anger over my favorite television show being cancelled.

Personally, I think it's all talk. They've been talking about this on and off since the first movie, and rumors have been flying forever. I'd like there to be a second movie, as I am a X-Files nerd, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

I adore your icon, though. <3

I'm crossing my fingers that thinking it's all talk - after all, when one's career has gone exactly nowhere, what better to do than start throwing around the name of your one memorable role?

Of course, even if it *does* happen, I sincerely doubt that group of crazies dedicated fans were responsible.

[/bitter wanking] Carry on. *g*

Well he's had lots of roles besides The X Files. He was the guy who read smutty letters and walked his dog in The Red Shoe Diaries, and, well that's about it actually.

You're not the only one who doesn't want to see another XF movie. I still have a few fond memories of the show. I'm afraid a movie would wipe those out along with the ones the series finale took away.

The ad hasn't "worked" on anything (if it's even been published, which would surprise the hell out of me). A second movie has been planned since before the first one was released. All DD's comments show is that the project, as the story says, "remains in the works."

There was an interview with Gillian Anderson (Scully, for the unitiated *g*) circulating a few weeks ago that gave some details about the new movie. Unfortunately this interview was revealted to be a hoax. These kinds of thigns keep happening with XF and the 1013 offices and it's hard to know what to believe anymore. So in sum, I'll believe it when my local theater lists prices and times.
