Pre-emptive Wank
The Godawful fanfiction board: harmless fun for some, great pool o' spooge for others. I myself enjoy the place-- no, wait...

[drama] ENJOYED [/drama]

..yes, the GAFF board has been TOSed without warning. This can only lead to wank.

What the heck's with THIS poster?

I was all warm and fuzzy and dance-y before. Which was mostly to do with the fact I sent my first FF.N abuse report a few hours ago. Oh, yes. That should smash that damned Sue's glass tiara well enough. Irony's a bitch.

When did writing a Mary Sue fic become an offense worth reporting it to FF.net's abuse department as a TOS offense? Or is the poster just being a bitch and trying to get someone TOSed for writing a fic she hated?

For anyone who missed it, there was a particularly vile fic reported in the New Releases thread in December, featuring Anne Frank

you know about a year ago some members of a community i used to post on found a bunch of Anne Frank fanfic, i didnt think it would take long for me to see it referenced once i started here :-P

Okay, I could be waaaaaay off-base here, but...

...if they need a new home this badly, why don't they just, I don't know, stay on LiveJournal? I mean, it might require them to have LJs (OH NOES TEH HORRAR) but you don't even need a code to get one any more. Plus, you know, LJ doesn't seem to give much of a damn about porn, and it's easy to use, and to reply to, and to have threaded discussions on, and it's free if you want it to be, and there aren't any ads, and as long as they don't trip over the same linking problem that f_w did they should be okay...

...and if they do, heck, there's always JournalFen! (should they all be over 18, anyway)

I'm sure that this is, like, the most horrible suggestion ever, and I am lubed up and bent over ready to be told why at great length.

I wasn't too active on the new GAFF board, but I lurked most every day, and one of the things that was really nice about the new board was the fact that there were so many categories for posting in. There was one for new crapfic, one for old crapfic, one for crap fandom, one for godawful culture (separate folders for TV, books, music, websites, etc.), one for random chatting -- that way you could choose what you wanted to look at, whether you just wanted to goggle at badfic, or if you wanted to discuss more than that. There was a pretty large amount of posting going on, but since it was pretty spread out over the categories, you didn't fall behind as easily. Whereas with LJ, adding it to one's friends-list (as I found it) clogs it instantly, and it's still in, "Dude, where's our board?" mode. Were people to start using it as heavily as they did with the TOS'd board, one's friends-list would go under. And even if you just wanted to go to the actual page for the community, I think it would still get out of hand really quickly, and you'd have something like fifty posts a day. So that's why I don't think a permanent move to LJ would work.

*shrug* I love Godawful personally, but yes... there are some people who get out of hand there.

You know, back in the day of the website, GAFF was fantastic and I was an avid reader.

The new forum certainly has (er... had)its plusses; the best thing about GAFF was always the commentary on the worst of the stories. But it was largely populated by a lot of very conservative folks who continually ruined it for the rest of us by TOSing everything they didn't like! Meaning it was removed from the web and lost to the rest of us who love reading bad fanfic!
The new generation of GAFFers took everything way too seriously, much like the people they targeted at the old site did.

However, I will always love them for that Gay Smurf Drama rec. That was the most hilarious thing ever.

Oh lord, that is so true. I wanted to post a link to a topic that was basically people having seizures over a Fundamentalist Christian Parody site. [It was the one with the 'if you see an Atheist tell your parents' bit.]

Despite some intrepid posters pointing out it's a fricking joke they just kept wanking.

It was oddly beautiful in a way.

TOSed back to VoyForums, GAFF gets a troll

GAFF is back on VoyForums, and either a past troll has been waiting for them all this time, or one of the GAFFers just couldn't resist pretending that it did. Anyhow, since GAFF feeds trolls better than any other message board on the entire internet, the troll thread is really really long. Enjoy:

Just want to state that I agree with most of the GAFF comments made here. But I must wonder why you didn't come to GAFF with them as well, where they would have been most helpful? I only looked here upon the notice by Spiletta42. With that said, I'm making my comments about fandom_wank here, or, rather, referring you to mine there (which were made in qualification of a point, so I didn't think to post it here first, apologies):
