hermaphrodite hobbity reproduction
I bring to you a small, somewhat oldish but amusing MPREG kerfuffle that I found while trawling the hobbit_slash LJ Community.

I don't know the history, haven't read the fic *because nothing will compell me to after reading this.

saber_0rlando is displeased that her story has been taken down because the mod doesn't classify it as slash.

Frodo is not female - he is both. In fact, he is dominantly male - i.e. he looks like a male, and has male organs and stuff.

People disagree:

What I said was that your story was inapropriate for the community because in giving Frodo female sexual organs, you introduced het into a firmly slash community.

you dont get my point. at least I dont think you do. at any rate, gay hobbits usually dont get pregnant and have little childrens of their own.

dont get me wrong. Frodo having babies would be HILARIOUS but it's just not realistic. AT ALL. I can see stretching things every once in a while, but this is just plain... odd.

Finally:

So, as I see it, hermaphrodites have no place in slash. Quite disappointing, as I have no place to put this story anymore. And I put a lot of work into it, too.

Ah the 'what is, or isn't slash' debate mixed in with hermaphrodite hobbity reproduction. Now that's something you don't see everyday.

I'm definitely siding with the girl and I really don't find her post to be wanky... though the replies are.

... *blinks* Has the LotR fandom never encountered impreg slash before? I find that a little hard to believe... also good for her for actually trying to make impreg pausible... since you know, pregnancy is a little bit hard for either sex without a uterus... -_-;

I'm not really taking sides, because I know one person's squick is another person's kink but I find the whole debate very amusing.

Personally, I can't get into MPREG; or is this hermaphroditePREG? My suspension of disbelief no matter how detailed the plot contrivances to allow it breaks into little pieces. I can see how it can get quite wanky. *hell, so am I*

The OP has a point. If mpreg is acceptable in slash, why can't Frodo having a vagina be slash? *boggles*

Am confused. But i think the whole conclusion to the controversy surround the fic is rather silly ie having the fic gunned down. Perhaps the moderator should have stated explicitly in the community user-info on what is accepted and what is not. And perhaps she could have settled it in a manner that wouldn't arouse the wankiness in the people's post.

Such arbitrary definition leaves room for confusion.

*sighs as she sees the similarities between this wank the last wank at Characters In Bloom*

Wow, so many places to start...

While I think the spooge flows both ways here (only appropriate for hermaphrowank) I'm particularly impressed by saber_0rlando's general ethos here. I mean, hell, both a default icon dedicated to Sam and Frodo's m(?)preg baby and bringing teh Rosie hate? At once?

Well...the community is apparently strictly slash, right? If Frodo's a hermaphrodite he's not exactly "male," anymore...especially if Sam is, erm, engaging his girly bits.

I've always thought of hermaphrodite stories to be more het-hentai than slash, but maybe just because I was forced to sit through Sailor Moon and the Seven Dragonballs (-_-).

There's an lotr_mpreg community on LJ. Lord knows I've run across dozens of Legolas mpreg and Frodo mpreg stories (mpreg isn't really my thing, but it seems to be quite a few people's story-of-choice in the fandom).

I'll admit it: mpregs aren't my thing. Under norma circumstances, I'd shrug and walk away, but this is ridiculous. Bad enough Frodo has Sam's baby, now he's a woman-type guy? Not only that...they engage in philosophical discussions aout whether its slash or het?

Already severely weakened by Victoria Bitter and crystalgamgee, this was has officially killed my last lingering strand of respect for LOTR fandom. The paramidics did their best in the ambulance, but it was no use. It was declared DOA in the hospital. It's so sad. LOTR fandom had such tragic life. Dismissed by critics since it's birth, abused by hippies in the 60s, disfigured in a cartoon version and later set on fire Orlando fangirls, I had a vague hope that someday it would clean up it's act, learn some sanity and just maybe lead a functional adult life after all those intensive FW threrapy sections.

Too many straw in one camel's back, I guess. Good-bye, LOTR fandom. Maybe you find the happiness you were denied on Earth over there in the Gray Havens.

*sniff* Oh shit... I think I'm gonna cry.... *sniff*

*weeps quietly*

Why does everyone hate Rosie so much? She's barely in the damn story at all. I don't care if she "broke up" Sam and Frodo's wacky little Hobbity trysts, Rosie's a good character. Dammit.

Not to mention, aren't Hermaphrodites usually predomimantly *female*? (Could be totally off on that, been years since my Psych of sex class...) And additionally... Okay, I'm going to stop now. Beacause hermaphrodite!Frodo is not something I can wrap my brain around.

I've said it before and I'll say it again - I love my fandom. *cuddles the batshit*

I'm not into mpreg, meself - can't afford the size of crane it would take to suspend my disbelief on that one. However, I did read one just recently that I absolutely loved. A Frodo/Aragorn fic in which Frodo wasn't actually pregnant, but only pretending to be pregnant, as a role-playing sex game with Aragorn. He tied a pillow to his belly under his nightshirt, and they proceeded to have an incredibly silly/sweet/hot little "Shame on you, you cheap slut" "Oh please have mercy, my mighty King!" bit of fun. I laughed quite a lot, and was pleasantly surprised at how sometimes LOTR fans can actually laugh at their own proclivities. ;)

Okay I'm a member of hobbitslash and have actually...read every chapter. Because I don't squick easily and I was a tad curious...><

Anywho...my issues more revolve around how hobbits WOULDN'T use the words 'fuck' or 'cuming.' At least not spelled like that.

Coming - acceptable.

Cuming - Congratulations, it is now sleazy gross XXX movie theatre porn and no longer good writing in ANY sense of the word.

I have NOTHING against MPregs. Nope. One of my favorite S/F fics EVER is an MPreg. Gillian's fantastic 'Many Aspects' fic which I rec madly for anyone who wants an example of fantastic mpreg.

HOWEVER - what is being written here? Is biologically IMPOSSIBLE. I have noooo problem with hermaphrodites. Nope. None. However, they can't reproduce and I don't think it's quite how you describe it. The way I've always heard them described is being mostly one but having aspects of the other as well. Not COMPLETELY being BOTH. It's biologically impossible, flat out, for one to have a child.

And slash writers who treat gay men like women--putting Frodo in a DRESS?!--makes me want to pull my hair out. ><

That's about it.
