More Comic Wank
My very first wank, so please use lube and/or be gentle...

LJ's Get Fuzzy feed, of course, brings the wank on a regular basis. Today's strip has Rob's cousin losing a leg in Iraq. Obviously, the strip jump-starts a steady stream of spooge.

Separated doesn't like serious comics.

Flashfire reminds Separated that not all strips have to be funny, and is promptly called a fascist.

Seems straight-foward enough, right? But no, Flashfire continues to post, starting arguments with every poster who voices anxiety or disagreement with the comic. Of especial beauty is the "First post!" wankery. :-)

Enjoy!

But... but... if a strip doesn't have to be funny, then wouldn't someone who said so be the opposite of a fascist?

My brain hurts.

I was bummed too. I don't know him personally or even have his LJ friended, but he's always seemed to be the voice of reason to me.

He usually is, but sometimes a cause gets to him and he rails. Looks like this was one of those times..

By the way, I'm mad at you. Now I'm obsessed with getting gold on Gaia. *thbpts*

You're obsessed? I'm selling everything I own in a vain attempt to get a kodiac bear hat. I'm even selling my av's undies via auction in the Charity forum. XD

Snerk. OK, I feel better, I haven't hit that level of desperation. Yet.

But I do have an April letter! whee!

I'm probably going to regret this, but what is a kodiak hat?

and yes, I'm all excited to see what the april item is. =)

It's a little brown bear hat that was in last July's donation letters. I've loved them since I first came to Gaia last November, and I'm really trying to get one now. Problem is the price keeps going up. The money I have now would have been a good bid when I started the quest, but isn't even minimum bid according to two of the three price guides now.

Questing r teh suck.

ergh, that does suck. I'll try to help out if I can, since I'm not saving for anything right now (but I keep posting to this stupid "count down from 10000" thread on the chatterbox. I must be insane).

If you see anything you like, get it. I don't want to take anyone else's stuff if they'd rather buy something for themselves. Probably one of the reasons my quest crawls. XD

wow, the jealousy argument in the first wanky reply, I am stunned.

It should be interesting to keep an eye on.

Wow, and here I thought the wank over that strip would stem from Doonesbury carrying a warning for similar subject matter but Get Fuzzy escaping that.

At least it did in *my* paper (The Oregonian).

WTF? I'd think it would be the other way around. Because, come on; if it comes as a surprise to someone that Doonesbury is a political strip, that person would probably be surprised to find out that the sun rises in the east and that water is wet.

They also warned that Friday's Doonesbury would contain an expletive.

Now...hasn't it before? Like, a *lot*?

It's so sad that in two weeks that item will expire from the feed and the wank will be lost FOREVA!

Someone needs to save it for amusement valueposterity.

I was wondering how long this was going to take to appear here when I first saw this last night. I think it took about 2 hours to receive over 150 replies, which is something that not even Get Fuzzy can do on a normal day.

Flashfire's rants and stuff got way too indepth and I have failed to see how not liking a strip makes one a fascist.

Oh well. I guess that when people are passionate about a certain subject, all sorts of logic disappear and one becomes irrational.

[/my two cents]

I saw that. ::sob:: Long-time Doonesbury fan, here--as in, scoured second-hand book shops finding collections of the strips that preceded my birth.

B.D. with his helmet off! As far as I know, that's a first. I hope this isn't a prelude to killing him off or something. 'Cause that would be wrong.

Long time fan here - did the same thing. I found a hardback copy of the 70s strips (introduction of Kim as a baby, around that time) in a used bookstore in Evanston and have treasured the thing ever since.

I don't *think* he's about to kill off BD, but it'll be interesting to see how the guy changes now. Whole new perspective and all.
