Small Icon Wank
Here Slyferret rants about icon theft.

This was a post made in response to this</a> where I believe someone cried 'icon theft' for icons they didn't request credit for.

Fairly minor wank but it still has some potential.

"I keep a running list of the usernames of people using my icons. Because I ask for credit, about once a month I run through the list and make sure the credit is there."

Anal much?

I was going to say that, and then I come here to find that my very un-written down thoughts have been PLAYGERYZED OMG!

Bastards! They stole the icon I spent a whole two seconds copying and THREE HOURS pasting some text on 'cos Photoshop is so hard to use!

Call me when you actually DRAW the pictures you're maiming with your stupid add-ons, K?

Moron.

I have some icons I credit in my journal. I have some I don't, because they didn't ask for credit and I frankly am a lazy-ass who would rather not put in the extra effort to figure out how to credit. I make icons and I find them in different places without credit. And, yes, when I posted them, I asked for credit. Some of them did take a while for me to make. But, you know what? I'm just glad they liked it enough to take the trouble to save it and upload it to their stuff.

Now, hotlinking...that's uncool.

I guess, when you get right down to it, it's really just another Photoshop manip. Yeah, you put a lot of time into it, but in the end, all you did was match words with picture and filters. What really bothers me is I've found places where they have templates pre-made to make icons, and then people have the audacity to scream about crediting. That's like me taking the Mona Lisa, painting on a frilly hat, slapping on a quote from Linkin Park, then demanding that it was my work.

*shrugs* Maybe I'm being a big ol' hypocrite, but I never understood that whole thing.

BWAHAHAHA! XDXD

That made me giggle for countless hours. XD

If you don't mind, I must steal that icon. And I will NEVER be sure to give you credit. ^_~

And, I'm glad someone caught my reference to the Wank of the Year. XD

Hmm. I wonder how many of these "omg it took me hours to make that in Photoshop and then someone stole it" folks actually paid for their copy of The Most Pirated Program Ever.

I didn't pay for mine either! It's an "educational" copy from computer work.

For shame.

OW. Low blow, that.

I'm with minttea on the credit thing -- I would like to be credited not because I need the ego-boost (though I do) or because I'm SO PROD UV MY WURK!!!11, but because if someone else likes the icon I did that is being used, I want people to know where to find other work like it. Kind of on the same lines of reading a good book, or being recced a good book, then going out and looking for other things by the same writer -- but you can't do that if you don't know who the writer IS!

totally off topic, but what is the name of the anime in your icon, I remember hearing about, but forgot the name. Has to do with a girl who likes this guy and she literally becomes his right hand... right?

I make icons too (*is an icon wh0re*), and do ask for credit, but I don't get all upset when I find out people don't. I didn't make the pictures I steeled<?strike> stole found them on other websites.

People wank way too much over 100x100 pictures.

(Reply to this)

Glad to see you like my icon.

Hey, just wanted to say thanks for spreading my creation to the rest of the world. No, there is not a bit of sarcasm in that statement; I'm one of those whackos who believes that credit is APPRECIATED, but not necessary. I'm not going to file some $100,000 civil lawsuit against someone for icon thievery. Just glad someone enjoyed the icon that took me all of 4 minutes to make enough to use it (and currently default it). Glad you liked it, and since you know where to find me (or at least where I posted that), send me a "hi" or something, be nice to chat with you.

I'm just happy to know I'm not the only one who watches, and likes, this series.

I do try to give credit though.

Looking forward to the Tenjo Tenge icons you mentioned!

Aw, what? The post got deleted? Why does all the wank disappear by the time I get to it? Damn you, wanky people!

It was deleted at the request of one of the mods for being off topic. Not that that's mentioned in the community info page or anything, but whatever.

You'll have to get your wank elsewhere, sorry.

I'm kind of amused. Especially since whatever quote was used in the first reply to this wasn't by me - did they find that in the comments, or what?
