[info]penknife posts her feelings on Virginia's recent quote-unquote Marriage Affirmation Act. (Hint: not so very favorable to the Virginian legislators.)

[info]huushiita espouses the Joys of Being A Canadian:

*sighs* It feels like us Canucks are million light years ahead of them bloody Yankees. Ever feel like we're watching their politics, and think, they MUST be going backwords in time?

which, of course, does not sit well with the non-Virginian-politician-Americans reading. Finally (of course!) the Religious Right arrives on the scene.

[info]tmverwolff says here:

Have you actually read the bible? My guess is no. You know what... I'm for this bill, and if for no other reason than to balance out all of you radicals who are against it.

"Hell in a handbasket"... you want to know what's going to hell in a handbasket? Our society... our culture... our traditions... and it isn't because of laws like this... it's quite the opposite. These laws seek to preserve the way of life that we are letting slip away. Think about it. What is on prime time TV now, for all your children to watch, was R, NC-17, or completely taboo a few years ago...

And what about religion? Religion has had the same teachings now for 2000 years, but in the past 20 years, We've decided that if religion teaches against the "fun" Sin, then religion is wrong!

spawning appr. a gajillion replies. Most notably:

wolfie_thu says:

Oh yeah? Well, the religion of ancient Egypt lasted for 3000 years. Which obviously means that Ra could so beat up your god. Ra ownz j00.

[info]threegoldfish pulls out the good old Leviticus argument:

At risk of pulling out that horry old chestnut, are you wearing a poly-cotton blend right now? Have you touched your wife when she's mensturating? Have you had a cream sauce on your meat? Ever? And have you been ritually cleansed? No? Well shit, dude. You're next in line for the stoning!

[info]thebratqueen adds:

We have two possibilities here. Either you're Catholic, in which case my response to you is: Vatican II. If you're not Catholic, then you're some form of Protestant, in which case I am definitely happy stacking my Bible knowledge up against yours because if you think Martin Luther was the guy born two millenia ago then I can promise you that I read the good book for content much better than you did. As for example, I can cite the main character on my very first try.

And [info]cazapazzo tops it off with some good, old-fashioned Hindu deity slash.
