	For some situations, I think the age limit is a Good Thing. Like someone said, I wouldn't want to RP a sex scene with a 12 year old. It's icky and wrong and I'd feel extremely uncomfortable, no matter how experienced the RPer is with that. (Reply to this)(Thread)

The one rp group I was/am part of had an age restriction (LoK vampire rp. Sex, blood and violence basically), but we ended up getting a player oh... about over half a year after it's creation and it turns out she was 12. I think she ended up rp-ing one or two sex scenes...
She ended up getting kicked from the yahoo group, and banned from the forum, and yet she hung around on the fanfic archive, and harassed the mods (bringing in the assistant mods child, suicide, and a bunch of other issues). She hasn't been heard from in over a year now, but we still remember her.

Age limits are good. Really.

I moderate a huge community over on LJ; while most members are in the 16-25 area, I know there's a handful of people as young as 12. For the first year or so of the community's existance, I was really lax about it and just sorta ignored the community unless there was a F_W worthy flamewar going on, or if someone complained. Then one day I opened up my inbox and found an e-mail from an enraged mother threatening legal action because her daughter had read a post some nutjob member had made about trading sexual favors for crash space at an anime convention*. She had bypassed talking to the offending poster, opted not to report the post/community to LJ, and found my e-mail adress and was preparing to go get my ISP for a sepina. Now, my first reaction was, "Bitch, are you for REAL?" but in this sue-happy day and age, you have to appease these people because their paranoid complaints can and will hold up in court, especially when a minor is concerned. Realistically, if she'd gone through with her threat, it'd all be on that orginal poster, but still. People are nuts. So now, in fear of crazy parents looking over my shoulder, I have to mod the community like a anal retentive dictator (60% of the members are under 18, so making the comm 18+ wasn't realistic), because it only takes one uptight parent to ruin it for everyone.

That happened in a cosplay community - I shudder to think of what would happen if some happy Christian housewife looked over her 13 year old daughter's shoulder to discover her role playing Snape boinking Lupin.

* = something similar happened in the comm recently, except it was some chick trading sex for a ride to a con, and not a room. As far as I know they were different people; both got their skank asses banned.
