Anime Wank.
Been around for a while, but this is my first time posting. Go easy on me Do me hard and fast, baby!

*cough* Anyway, out of boredom I headed over to the Anime Nation forums to see what kind of stuff was going down, what anime was being released/bought etc.

Stumbled upon a thread called What is the worse popular anime?, and boy is it getting wanky.

It starts off tame enough; Keiichi-chan posts his/her most disliked popular animes, and people follow, sometimes agreeing, sometimes not.

But then we get the people jumping into to defend their favorite animes. And thus, the wank begins.

It looks like it may have died down for the time being, but you never know.

Yeah. That's the first one that comes to mind. Especially the way it was handled here in the US.

I adore the "DBZ is slow and it's all about fighting!" and "Sailor Moon is just pretty girls fighting!" complaints.

Because, duh, DBZ is a shonen fighting anime, and SM is a magical girl show. But I guess those aren't good enough reasons. *rolls eyes*

Oh please.

Well all know the worst anime is Macross 7, which tries so hard to destroy the good memories of the original Macross, and has the most detestable lead character ever to grace the TV screen.

[Is it bad I kinda agree with some of them? Cowboy BeBop did have waay to much filler, Trigun was cool until Vash's 'Mommy' complex took over, and I did find KareKano boring.]

Speaking as someone who did a Nelson laugh after reading Mooserocka's defense of DragonBall Z being so cool because it took fifty episodes to complete a fighting scene and then had others say "Dude, that's why it sucked!!" Um, I'm right in there with you.

So.. Macross 7 destroys the spirit of the original by.. being based strongly around song, and having people in transforming jets battling aliens for the fate of humanity? As opposed to.. The list is kind of interesting. I'm not a huge fan of anime, and I think nearly everything I've liked has appeared already. Mmm, Gundam Wing... no turning into animals to express emotion, no fabulous costume changes, no talking animals, no past lives, no magical whatsamahoozit that'll fix everything. It's like they took out everything that has ever annoyed me and added more pretty boys and explosions.

I'm the kind of occasional armchair viewer that anime fans hate, I suspect. I don't even hate all dubs on principle. (Sometimes I like them.)
