"Does this episode smell spoiled to you?" aka Fullmetal Alchemist spoiler wank
First time wank, so...etcetc. And, in the interest of saving my own behind (and to make this post all the more cute), there are spoilers for Fullmetal Alchemist in this, up to episode 30 and late issues of the manga.

There's been several Fullmetal Alchemist communities spring up on LiveJournal since the show's first airing last year, including fm_alchemist. It enjoyed a good, long time of little to no wank (besides a ridiculous incident where someone posing as the comm mod told all the yaoi fans to go "make their own community"). But, alas, all good things must come to an end.

crucifymylove has many, many theories about FMA. She also intensely believes each one to be true, and will get upset with anyone who 1) doesn't agree or 2) doesn't hang on her every breath and commit each to memory.

First she makes a post to the community with gibberish as a subject line, and an lj-cut simply titled "Epi30 spoilers". It starts off innocently enough, until she explodes into random consonents because someone dares to not remember what she said in a random thread whose location I have no clue about. An anon then politely asks (roundabout) for manga spoilers to be marked as such.

And it all gets crazy from there.

It's worth noting that the show and the manga have actually diverged on some seriously large points by now, and that ends up boosting both sides of the argument. Still, it just seems like common courtesy that, if you diverge from the actual topic warned against, you make another warning.

Dunno if this is especially wank-worthy as annoying, but there you go. XD

"The Fuhrer?!"

Oh no.

I'm not going to have to cite yet another anime for violation of Godwin's Law, am I? *glares at Weiss Kreuz Gluhen*

President, Fuhrer, some subs have even called him King (though we later found out that's actually his first name). No one's quite sure what to call him. ^_^;

*giggles remembering "fuhrer" from Gluhen*

If the Fuehrer had been a 14-year-old Japanese bishounen, WWII would have turned out very differently.

OMG. There's an anime where there's someone called the Fuhrer who's a 14 year old bishonen? xDD I don't know why I should be surprised, given that one of my favorite fandoms has a 12-year-old bishonen called the Kaizer, but... yeah. *snicker*

That's so great...

The Weiss Kreuz fandom in general is known for the "so bad it's good" anime. But Gluhen? Simply INSPIRED badness. Me being me, I love it, but even some people who adore the original series can't stand it.

That's a translation from the subs, I haven't seen any official source to back this up yet. Damn subbers -_-;;

A-ny-way - fm_alchemist provides so much wank I'm surprised I haven't drowned in the splooge yet, so... this is just a brunch-wank between breakfast and lunch, a quickie *shrugs*

IIRC, I think on the English language documents that are seen onscreen in the anime, like Ed's naming as National Alchemist, that guy (name is King Bradley) is referred to as the Fuhrer.

Well, I kind of ignored the OMG FMA GOT LICENSED BY FUNI WE'RE ALL GONNA DIIIIIIIE posts and things like that...this is the second time someone's complained about that chick spouting random spoilers (with bobbleheads shortly following going "you're so right omg!"). I guess my statement that it's been relatively wank-free is mostly due to the fact that I regularly ignore stuff. ^_^;

FMA got licensed? Cool! And Funimation did a good job with Fruits Basket, too, so I don't know what those little wankers are whining about.

Heh. Yup, definitely been there and done that, albeit on different boards.

FMA got licensed?

Nope, not yet.

Funimation bought www.fullmetalalchemist.com, or some such, leading people to speculate that they will pick it up. But they regularly buy domains, like onepiece.com, of popular anime. It really doesn't mean much.

They did do a nice version of FB, though, so I hope it is them who gets it. (Anybody but Viz, please!)

Wait, Funimation became good when I wasn't looking?

I haven't watched anything from them in ages. I just remember tuning in to the first episode of the Yu Yu Hakusho dub, then immediately retreating to my imports once I heard Kuwabara speak. (Because apparently, Amusing Goofball With Puberty Voice in Japanese = Stereotypicall DBZ Villain in English.)

FMA's world, Amesteris, is loosely based off Germany. Because of this, in the english text you get occassionally, their military leader's title, Dai-Soutou, is written as Fuhrer. The subs just picked it up from the document in which Ed's named Full Metal; before that, they'd been translating it as Grand Generalissimo.

DAMMIT, you beat me to it! If I only could have gotten a join code. :\

Yeah, crucifymylove is like a dog with a bone with her Frank Archer theory. We believe it stems from a deep-rooted Hughes psychosis. It's similar to the infamous Sirius Black psychosis, only this time people have learned to accept the dead and have progressed to resorting to voodoo to change the fact.

Her theories often make very little sense, canonically. They're constantly far-fetched and have nothing to back them up. But by GUM, what she lacks in sanity she more than makes up for in bull-headed determination.

Wait, so she's basing this false information on a hunch? Sources, people, cite your sources. Gawd, at this rate, people will get the impression that fangirls aren't the type to do their research and adhere closely to canon, and next thing you know they'll lose all respect for us.

FMA is one of those fandoms where I took one look at the communities, at their fanfic and fanart,and ran away screaming back to the anime and manga. I'm sure there's good stuff out there, but I'm just not prepared to wade through fifty posts of "I heard this song and it made me think of the Elric brothers" or "I had a dream about Full Metal Alchemist last night".

And I don't see how being a homunculus=dead. This sort of blind speculation is how fanon gets started.

(Reply to this)(Thread)

(Anonymous)
2004-05-04 06:36 am UTC (link)
Well actually, that sort of stems from the fact that homunculus are created from attempts at human transmutation. There's nothing that says the person had to exist in the first place, though.

And it can be okay, if you get past the crazy and the "OmG THAT SONG IS SO ED" there are occasionally really great fanworks being churned out. The elricest comm is generally much, much, much better, substance-wise.

Hm, the fanworks (the art especially) is what initially attarcted me to the community, but it has dropped off lately. Both in frequency and in quality, I'm sad to say. :(

I mostly skim everything, so I don't have to read the "OMG THIS SONG IS ROY IF HE WERE IN LOVE WITH ED AND THEY WERE MARRIED BUT HAD JUST HAD A FIGHT OVER DINNER BECAUSE ED CANT MAKE GOOD SPAGHETTI!" type posts. ;)
