I can get how it's kind of rude to make a big deal about losing a baby in front of someone who's pregnant, but... I mean, maybe saying, "Dudes, this isn't cool," is better than running off crying and hitting people?

One wonders why she's playing in a Larp while pregnant, I'm not expert in either subject but it just sounds like a bad idea to me.

Oh and if your pregnancy is making you *that* nuts, maybe you should be going to your doctor, instead of being a Drama Queen at a Larp.

[How far along is she? Did the other players know she was really pregnant?]

For lack of anything else to add to the comments so far, I have questions:

Are NPCs in LARPS just regular, non-player people, or is there some distinction between a LARPer playing a NPC and a LARPer playing a vampire?

If her character had stayed pregnant and then she had the baby in real life, would they have to make the baby a character, or would her character just have one of those imaginary babies, like on sitcoms?

She also mentions that the players just went on with the scenario, even though she was freaking out. Do LARPs have "safety words" or something for when people are seriously having emotional or physical issues with a scenario? Then again, one would think that if they did, the OP wouldn't have let them actually go through with the scene.

my reaction to the "she's mentally unstable to begin with" argument is if that's the case, she shouldn't be LARPing ANY character to begin with.

Huh. I didn't know you could rape a baby out of someone. Rape has so many uses I never knew about.

But as to the person in question, I can understand her being upset. I'm slightly superstitious, and if something like that happened to me, it would upset me. But for that reason, I would not work my pregnancy into a vampire RPG.

Speaking AS an RPGer, you NEVER play something that can actually get you upset that badly, because no GM can resist sticking pins into a plotpoint like that. Man. As the GM, I would have veto'ed the idea IMMEDIATELY. No sympathy here, for either side.

You know, I went into this thread all prepared to side with the player. Because miscarriage plot-line with pregnant player? Not good.

But...but...but...

But OK, look. If I were four months pregnant? No fucking WAY would I want to play my char as pregnant as well. Especially not in a WoD game. Nuh-uh. No way.

And as for a playing a pregnant 15th-gen character?

Well, uh, I would never be playing a character that advanced anyway, because I'm just really not into playing at that power level, but... um, like, didn't the player actually realize that given the the significance of that in the canon, there was just no way that there weren't going to be other PCs seriously gunning for her ass?

And once she realized that she couldn't handle it, why the hell didn't she call a time-out?

And once she was already hysterical, why the hell did she want others to try to deal with her in-character? It sounds as if some of them tried to deal with her on an OOC level, and she pretty much blew them off.

And then there was the hitting.

Bleh.

You know, I really hate to be all dissing on the pregnant woman, but I find myself believing the Storytellers completely when they claim that they did hesitate before introducing this plot-line, and that they did discuss the probable plot direction this game might take with the player ahead of time.

It sounds to me as if this woman just really wanted attention. LOTS of attention. ANY sort of attention. Good, bad...doesn't matter. Just. Attention.

And now she's getting it.

Okay, i read it. Aaaand...i can kind of see her point on some levels. As a mother having to rp a child being taken/killed is rather traumatic for me. Which is why i try to avoid even possibly putting myself in that scenario. But..she obviously doesn't draw much in the way of lines between her character and herself. She states that soon as she found out she was pregnant she wanted her character pregnant too, that pretty much illustrates my point. And that's a BIG mistake in roleplay. It makes you take things far too personally.

I don't get why she'd want to RP being pregnant while she's pregnant RL. I ended up doing that once on a MUSH and it was the most mind numbing experience of my life. Let's see, i'm fat, hormonal and can barely move rl, let's go into our fantasy world where i...do exactly the same thing. It sucked and i'd never do it again.

I think though, when you factor in her raging hormones (although i didn't get seriously psychotic until after my 6th month or so), her reaction wasn't THAT extreme. Other than the hitting.

Once again, I am so happy I got out of LARPing. Now, when I play online with people who forget the differences between character and player, I can just turn the computer off, not worry about people getting smacked around.

I echo the statements above: when this started getting wild and bizarre, saying, "I need a time out, we need to pause the scene, I need out" is a-ok.

To her credit, she DID admit hitting people was wrong (which is more than her wanky commenters did, since most of them were all for going back and beating up the folks).

...I think some mistakes were made all around, to be honest, but she's definitely headed for the wank.

I eventually got to the point where I was so upset I felt like I was going to throw up. This is the point at which it seemed reasonable for me to introduce violence into the equation. If they could make me, the player, that emotionally and physically upset, then it seems like I have the right to make them feel some of that pain.

You know, i have only small experience with LARPers but they have always really taken themselves seriously, and i cannot imagine any of my LARPer pals doing something as dumb as playing a preggers woman in Vampire when they were really preggers.

On the topic of LARPy stuff, i was at a convention once when i was in my quasi goth period (trechcoat, sunglasses inside, all black etc...) and there was a large group of vampire folk there. At one point i asked one of them for directions to the restroom, and he had his hands across his chest like he was in a coffin, he explained that this meant he was invisible, and i should know the rules if i was playing. I explained that i wasnt playing and he wandered off. I spent the rest of the weekend bumping into as many invisible vampires as i could find :-P

Just a few things in my defense, and then you can get back to the mocking:

I can't control what my friends say. That's seriously not my fault.

I was wrong, I thought I made that clear a couple of times. I'll say it again: I was wrong. By the time this went up it was the next day and I was trying to get everything into a coherent statement of what had happened and why it had upset me so when I talked with the people who run the game, I'd have everything sorted out in my own head and be able to explain myself and appologize coherently. There were three people who tried to get me to tell them what happened that night, and I couldn't get anything out clearly, so writing everything down was a neccisary step. Why'd I put it on the internet? Because I don't feel the need to hide my thoughts from anyone. Even when I fucked up.

The point of this was not to excuse my actions, but to explain that I felt the GMs were wrong too.

One of the side effects of the whole pregnant thing is that my memory is all shot to pieces, in addition to me being amazingly hormonal. It is possible that they mentioned this OOC before the game began some three months ago, and I've just forgotten, if that's the case, I'm really sorry, but not one of the GMs has told me that that's what happened, and so I don't think it is. There was a brief in character discussion earlier that night, but that's not the same as discussing what you're going to do with your plot PC OOC.

As for the people I hit (and yes, I was still wrong to do so): these are people I've known for a long time, and roughhoused with on innumerable occasions. One of them has already decided to forgive me, and I am very grateful for that, I haven't had a chance to speak with the other one yet. I'd never hit random people (even innefectually flailing at them) and I'd never hit a child.

Oh, and just in case some of you didn't get the chance to read the whole post (it was pretty long) I just wanted to point out that I'm not playing anymore first and foremost because I broke the rules.

I've had no experience in any RP-gaming much less WoD, but with all those rule bendings in order to make the character exist, does that make her character an RP version of a Mary-Sue?
