A teeny little X-Files Rapefic wank!
We've established here in the past that the shippers over at the XF Haven don't much like stories dealing with rape.

And in this wank, we met Kassie/[info]foxytime, who has a theory that Mulder may have raped Scully. Which, unpopular among the shippers, sure, but not so much with the wanky, until you notice this comment regarding the kerfuffle and the shippers in her LJ:

(my emphasis in bold)

Morons they are.

I wonder how they would have reacted if I said I believed Scully was raped by CSM, Krycek, Knowle, etc. Ya know, anyone but Mulder.

At least I know fiction from reality - I saw a collage over on the Creative board that was called "Possession" (sarah mclachlan's lyrics) and it was a MSR collage (using GA & DD images - no M&S whatsoever) and the replies to it were how sweet and enchanting and cute... do they know what the song "Possession" is about? Maybe they don't ever want to see parts of the world as it really is.

I could have gone into the fact (on the LJ community) that most rapes are done to a victim by someone they know (ie: Mulder/Scully). The shippers just wouldn't hear of it. I think they perceive all rapist as the violent kind, but the rapist profile is the "Power Rapist: Manhood reassurance", I go into the characteristics and behaviour of this rapist in a thread at The Bee Dome message board and include my thoughts on how Mulder fits it well.

I think the shippers see the M&S relationship as the perfect relationship - one which all relationships should be based on. That worries me because I've seen a friend date someone just because he was so "Mulder" and he was emotionally abusive and it wouldn't have surprised me if he threatened violence, he ran her life while she was with him for 3 years, and she was afraid to leave him, and even when she did, she went back to him a few times believing he deserved a 2nd and 3rd chances. I believe this is how the M&S relationship is, Mulder has separated Scully from any real friends and has grown distance between her and her family - that's what sexually abusive partners do. Mulder has done just that.

(If I'm ranting, tell me to stop)

The thing is that the majority of this fanbase is shipper and other opinions are disregarded so easily by them, and I feel that I should be able to express my thoughts and theories just like anyone else. I wasn't going to post that collage anywhere, but that would mean letting the shippers be the only ones to express theories (like how they believe that M&S had sex in "all things"... considering the mental state Scully was in, do you really think Mulder would have disrespected her at that time by having sex with her? I don't think so).

Then there's the one that decided to say she is a victim of rape so far into the debate and that the whole discussion triggered her. I have my doubts on that, and then all I can think is it's her own fault, she saw what the topic was about, if she knew she had been raped she should have known that the topic would trigger her. That's not my fault and it is no reason for her to "throw flames" and namecall.

*sighs* I should step down off my soapbox...

(Okay, so people who are fans of a fictional romantic pairing can't recognize an abusive relationship in real life? Ooops, seem to have gotten a little wank on myself here. Moving along...)

In any case, Kassie's rapefic is not "your typical fic" and she's going to prove to the dumb shippers who can't separate fanfiction from, er, reality (even though we must bear in mind that Mulder and the XF gang aren't exactly, you know, real, but since Kassie has decided that Mulder *could* be a rapist, that *must* be reality. Or something) that Mulder is the rapin' type. She posted to the Haven a while back to pimp her almost finished story, and didn't get what you'd call a warm reception. More like, "Boo hiss! We don't wanna read your nasty rapefic!" and "You do know that this is a MSR board, right?" and "Wow, you're gonna have to work really hard to get me to believe that scenario."

So the fic is finally finished. And Kassie posts a link to it. Ladies and gentleman, start your wank engines.

It's not too bad, but there's a few great moments. Particularly chuckleworthy is the "Mulder is rape" colorbar.

I'd be worried about a friend dating someone emotionally abusive, yeah...but I'd also be worried about a friend who dated someone because he was just so 'porn-and-conspiracy-obsessed-fictional-FBI-agent'.

Best Comment award:

Whaddya mean [fiction]'s not real??? Then who the heck is this nekkid, one-armed man chained up in my closet???

The best part is the way the author just sat there, calmly responding to comments and discussing why she feels the way she does, while the wank flew about her. That's the way I read it, anyway. And I'm not a fan of the "rape as a romantic plot device" thing (if you wanna write rape, write rape! don't dress it up, dammit), but I definitely think Cassie's the least wanky here.

The people who insist she can't be a Mulder fan because she wrote him EV0L! and she likes Doggett better! just crack me up.

I definitely think Cassie's the least wanky here.

I have to agree, in the latest Haven wank featuring her fic, she does compose herself well. In the other wanks on the LJ community or her first go-around at the Haven, not so much. (Nor in other places I've seen her babble on about her rapefic.) So her continued good cheer is kind of a shocker here.

My favorite part of the thread is the mod reining everyone in and forbidding any going "off topic". Because if the fanfic folder at the Haven is known for anything, yeah it's most definitely their ability to never, ever stray from a topic within a thread. I'm quite sure those dozens of 1000+ comment threads for the Mastoholics were ALL filled with insightful analysis of the story ONLY. Nor have any of the various slash threads EVER veered off into why M&S are the OTP forever and ever, amen.

Yeah, they're sticklers for that kind of thing. Unh-hunh.

I had total sympathy for Cassie until she started elaborating on how, if actually writing the characters the way the show presented them was wrong, she didn't want to be right. That turned me off pretty quick.

Also, total inability to spell out common words.

Oh, I am so happy that someone picked up this damn thread over here, as a friend and I have been in hysterics over it for two days now. (We are the providers of the color bar, yes.)

I agree that Cassie's behavior was utterly wank-free compared to everyone else's, even if her premise and attention-seeking is slightly leaning in the wank direction.

But honestly, what I found the most wanktastic was Philiater's comment that those who don't read or write fic have NO RIGHT OMG to criticize fic. Bah! How dare us non-fic-writing fools have an opinion!

Hee. ;) Enjoy the wank. We color bar folk sure are, LOL.

*boggles* Head, meet desk.

"Asking for it" - well, probably. I like Cassie a lot, actually - I don't think she's always doing a service to the non-MSR fans in the way she comes across, but she's a nice girl. But going into Haven with a theory like that is rather famously like stapling a T-bone steak to your ass and running naked through a junkyard full of rottweilers, which is probably wanky in and of itself. So the fact that Haven just managed to make her look completely rational and wank-free in comparison probably deserves some kind of cookie. Or at least a good swift kick in the head.

Although, it's nice to see nstt is still at it - and still incapable of wielding grammar! :wipes tears: Some things will forever remain constants. That's comforting, somehow.

Also, the color-bar? Best thing evah.

Canon is so subjective.

... and frankly, I don't see that [Mulder/Scully romance] on the show (maybe the UST in earlier seasons but never the romance/relationship aspect). The moment a story delves into MSR, it's unbelievable to me.

Except when it's not.

I like to think that anything MSRish in the last three seasons is CC [Chris Carter] shipper fic. I like to pretend that it didn't happen. I believe that the consumation of their 'relationship' ruined the characters and in some ways the show. I'm very bitter toward MSR (not so much now as I was back then, but still). I think the mushy kissy crap was just put into episodes to entice rabid shippers to watch the show even without DD there full time. If MSR is supposed to be so swell, don't you think CC would have found a way to make it believable to all fans watching? He didn't. It makes me sick.

Uh-huh. I was never a 'shipper by any means, but this looks like pure inflamatory out-the-ass talking to me.

Wank on, XF.

Wait. Did she really just make a point that Mulder, whom she theorizes RAPED Scully, wouldn't have consensual sex with her if Scully wasn't in the proper state of mind and it 'disrespected' her?
