MORE SPACE GHOST PLZ
Just a little wank, but it was good for some amusement, heh. And it's still in progress, so who knows?

I finally decided to check out the adultswim.com forums in the hopes that they might be populated by, I don't know, ADULTS. With actual senses of humor such as those to appreciate most of AS's comedy. (Except Ripping Friends.) But I suppose I hoped for too much.

Stop showing Family Guy, the DVDs are out anyway!

A perfectly valid opinion if a bit . . . trollishly put. Watch and giggle as both sides overreact hugely, in a multitude of fonts.

IT PAINS MY HEART TO THINK THERE ARE PEOPLE LIKE YOU IN THE WORLD AND TROUBLES ME MORE TO THINK THAT THEY CONTINUE TO BREED SLOWLY DEVOLVING THE HUMAN RACE.

And . . .

Remove family guy? How about I chemically castrate myself, then fall down a flight of stairs. Then hang out with a group of lepers to see if I can catch it, then let an ardvark lick fire ants off my slong?

...Wait...Terrible idea.

Ban him.

A voice of reason: I'd like to make an intelligent response. If you don't like Family Guy, you don't have to watch it. If you want to want to see Space Ghost reruns, you can buy the DVD and watch that while Family Guy is on. If you're going to argue that Family Guy shouldn't be shown since people can just buy the DVDs and watch them, then someone could argue that Space Ghost shouldn't be shown since people can just buy the DVD of that as well. Is that intelligent enough for you?

Aaaand the OP responds.

you shouldn't try to communicate with someone who isn't a pathetich troglodytic noodge.

Bonus Home Movies wank near the end!

ETA: The OP bashes Family Guy again in this much less wanky thread, but then ruins the relatively peaceful climate with:

just because i don't like it doesn't mean everyone who does is an idiot. they're idiots because everyone who likes it must have a low i.q.

Sometimes I feel like everyone involved in a given wank should be docked IQ points. "Fifty points from Gryffindor!"

What if I'm a poor abused orphan in a wheelchair who can't afford a DVD, much less a DVD player? Am I allowed to watch Family Guy? (Then again, that would mean I could afford cable...)

Stewie could kick all your asses.

Chemically castrate? Keh. Does this person watch All My Children, or is that (gag me) a phrase that's been bouncing around for years?

Isn't chemical castration that punishment for child molesters where they give the offender Depo Provera or some such every month so they can't get it up?

Could be. It just made me think of this particularly stupid plot device on a soap opera wherein a heart surgeon/chemist decided to punish a fellow who'd gotten away with raping the heart surgeon's friend by chemically castrating him. This plan was, by the way, his alibi for not having murdered the rapist when he turned up dead a couple of months later...

You have GOT to be kidding me. I mean, I haven't watched in a really long time, but I'm guessing you're talking about Hayward and the Bianca situation?

You know, I love Hayward, but I really wish TPTB would decide whether he's supposed to be a decent person or not.

You're not missing much. I only watch it because of my undying love for Rebecca Budig and Eden Riegal. I'm praying both of them hit the big time soon so I can have the five hours a week of my life back.

It would help if there was a little more continuity from headwriter to headwriter--I think the rule of thumb is that David Hayward is now nice to all women, and a jackass to all men (hey, he's like the male Greenlee, she who is loved by all men, but never their girlfriends).

Yes, yes, there was a wonderful week when every other goddamn line of dialogue referred to David having "chemically castrated Michael Cambias." It was almost as fun as the belated post-rape exam when David established that there was indeed "heterosexual penetration." Bwahahahaha. The show sucks balls.

Yep, and there's another set being released very soon--if you're registered on the AS forums, you can vote for which of 4-5 boxes you want the new DVDs to live in. *Vote #1!*

Just remember, this is the same board where someone said "anime is teh s uck".

-lee...and apparently, Matt and Dave (or whoever does the AS interstitials) found that funny enough to mention on-air. YAY

Hahah--was that before or after the same line was used w/r/t Plutonians on ATHF?

I was surprised by the divide between the "comedy" and "action" fans actually. Someone on the Comedy Board had up a poll asking who was cuter in a bunch of the series, and at the end they threw in "Sango or Kagome," and everyone who responded was like "I don't know who these characters are" even though the show comes on RIGHT AFTER the comedy block.

and nearly everyone who did know them picked Kagome--wtf?

I think that's where the Plutonians got it, but since I'm just pulling it out of my ass, don't, y'know, believe or anything.

I don't get the divide, either, but if a comedy fan wants to deprive itself of the soda-out-your-nose funny of FLCL, or an action fan turns up its nose at the fucking awesome fight scenes on Family Guy or Futurama's gorgeous spacescapes, there's nothing to be done for them. Nothing legal, anyway. Except in a couple of bits of Europe. And even then there's paperwork. Dear God, the paperwork!

Not gonna happen...

I wouldn't worry... it's not going to happen. Family Guy and Futurama are about the most popular shows Adult Swim has, with the ratings information I've seen showing that they often pull in viewers in the 700 000 to 800 000 range.

I can't read the thread without registering, but I'd say the odds are failry good that the person objecting to AS showing Family Guy is an anime fan, and, as an anime fan myself (albeit one who can't watch Cartoon Network since it's banned in Canada... really), I can tell you that you get a certain number of people whining about all non-Japanese content in Adult Swim, as though AS is supposed to be an anime-only block. CN does a great service to anime in the United States by devoting a certain number of timeslots to anime, and, since I'm very skeptical that the soon-to-go-linear Anime Network will ever be able to turn a profit for reasons that are beyond the scope of this thread to mention, I think Adult Swim will remain the most mainstream (relatively speaking) outlet for anime on cable. However, all that being said, from the ratings information I've seen, the top-rated AS anime like Inu Yasha only get, at best, half the number of viewers as the old reruns of the FOX primetime cartoons get, so it would be ratings suicide for CN to get rid of all their non-Japanese content. And you can get pretty much every anime on AS on DVD too, so, if they get rid of Family Guy because it's available on DVD, they'd have to do the same for all the anime. Fortunately, the people on message boards in general don't actually make programming decisions, otherwise you'd have absurdities like subtitled, uncut Pokémon shown on primetime TV, for the three people that actually care about the artistic integrity of Pokémon... sorry Pocket Monsters.
