I think this is a fandom
In Metaquotes poubelle posts a quote from choukoumei about the suckiness of the American QaF.

The wank starts when sogay and haruhiko start debating whether or not QaF is 'good' for the gay community.

[As a note I hated the US version of QaF, not because I thought it was hurtful to the gay community but because I thought the characters were completely unlikable.]

The whole thing is here:http://www.livejournal.com/community/metaquotes/1056039.html

Bitches, please. QAFUS sucks because the dialogue is crap, the plots are sitcommy, and the characters are all unredeemable caricatures. Shit like that ain't gonna help anyone's cause, unless it's the Cause of Perpetuating Bad TV.

On the plus side-- look, equality! Gay TV can be just as horrendous and cliche'd as straight!

It will be a great day when gay married couples are as trite, mundane, and suburbanized as straight ones.

I think that people would be much happier if they just accepted that QAF is gay porn for straight (and bi) girls, and left it at that. Hey, you don't see me debating whether or not lesbian porn is 'good' for real dykes, do you?

And, personally? I'd rather see gay characters integrated into other mainstream shows, rather than having special Gay Shows where everyone is queer. I mean, yeah, I do plenty of inter-queer socializing, but through school, work, and other social shit, I end up interacting mostly with straight people, and would prefer to see shows where they recognized that queers do not live in Gayville, but in the real world alongside all you heteros.

And this, precisely (among other reasons), is why I love "Six Feet Under".

I don't watch QAF for porn, so I for one find that hard to accept. If I want gay porn, I know where I can find some with more full-frontal nudity and less of that annoying talking.

I watch it because it's crack-TV, like Smallville or Australian Idol. Silly and unrealistic and I enjoy every minute. It's a trashy gay soap opera, I watch with a friend and we mock and love and shout things at the screen.

To badly paraphrase my favourite crack-movie... I was just looking for a good time.

I'd like to see more gay characters allowed to actually *be* gay, and ya know, have a life.

While I am happy to see more gay characters appearing on sitcoms and such, but it bugs me that for the most part they're there to be the 'token gay guy'.

Rarely are these characters allowed to actually have romantic relationships, and the ones that are there are usually given the 'Vera' treatment. [Basically they had a boyfriend at one point, but their not with them now for X reason, you'll never see them go on a date, or have a kiss, or god forbid have sex with another man.]

Er I had a point somewhere....

*fangirls your icon*

*sigh*

My fandoms are sending me to the nut house. First HP gets wanked every few seconds, now QaF...

What is it about QaF that's so wanky? I wanna know. Not saying that the wank is any less funny. Shit I agree most with it. However I just don't get it.

I mean HP is wanky because of the fangirls, the badfic shipping wars, etc. Why is QaF so wanky?

Wtf is wrong with metaquotes recently? I don't know, roughly since someone demanded a community quote for TP quotes some people seem to confuse it for the metawank community or something.

This is like watching people seriously debate and condemn 'the bold and the beautiful'. It's a fucking soap opera, having gay people in it doesn't mean it's supposed to be a scathing social commentary.

'The O.C.' stereotypes straight people and from my one halfassed viewing of half the pilot I thought it was crap and didn't like any of the characters. Oooh! Let's all bitch about how it doesn't stimulate my crown chakra and I can tell anyone here who enjoys it why they're WRONG! Or maybe I could just, you know, not watch it and not get my knickers in a knot over other people enjoying it when I don't.

I enjoy watching it, but that has mainly to do with the good acting, the hot adopted brothers, and Peter Gallagher's eyebrows. Much love for the eyebrows.

There are a million and one shows on television like The Bold & the Beautiful. QAFUS is the first show of it's kind in the United States, and for that reason alone it was always going to attract debate.

That's why I watched it (when I had Showtime). I didn't watch it to see what Ted's new personality was going to be this week, or to see how much more whiny and annoying they would make Michael, or to see Brian's latest way of expressing the fact that he didn't care. Yep, it was the mansex. Everyone takes the show a bit too seriously.

I love the US series, not because it's good/bad for the gay community, but because I just like it.

People are debating this like their opinions on the show are fact! And, in fact, not just opinion on a TV show.
