Oh, this is all so sad. I think there are grains of truth in there - that she WAS devastated by the Fandom_Wank stuff, etc. I've heard of schizophrenics becoming devastated when confronted with the fact that their delusions aren't real, for example, and then they go to greater and greater lengths to try to keep that delusion intact... She's so obviously ill. I don't think it's funny at all at this point; we're laughing at someone's mental illness. What she's doing isn't coming from a rational place and I'm sure it's compulsive to some extent.

I hate to say this, but maybe we should all consider leaving her alone. She's obviously far from mentally well, and she may not even be rational enough to get herself any help. This may just make her sicker, and I... just feel like we may be crossing a line here. I don't mean to sound sanctimonious or judgmental, because that's not what I'm trying to get across here. It's just that it was *painful* to read her multiple letters to you trying to make friends and things like that. I don't know. :(

This reminds me a bit of that movie Shattered Glass with Hayden Christensen about the reporter who fabricated his stories. And he just kept on insisting he was telling the truth with the line "Let me check my notes." It was kinda freaky after a while. And in the end he got fired. Hm.

The Fandom_Wank thread was devastating to Crystal. She stopped taking her medications and passed out. Brett flew from California to be with her and made sure she ate and took her medicine. She lost ten pounds in two days. Luckily her grandmother was taking care of her daughter then.

...I will never understand why people go batshit insane like that over CRAP ON THE INTERNET. Granted, there ARE real people behind those words on the computer screen and sometimes, it CAN hurt. But going that far over a fandom thing?! O_o;;

I see a recurring thing in some comments about how it seems as though Crystal was attempting to reach out and make amends in her own crazy way.

For those of you who think that Crystal was trying to reach out to me or genuinely trying to befriend me in the emails... I realize you guys can't judge since I can only summarize the emails, but if you've been following any of the wankery around this person, you may have noticed that she's terrible at lying, and not at all subtle.

To me it seemed pretty obvious. She was very deliberately trying to push all blame off onto the Jeff sock, get my sympathy, and get me to end the wank going on at her expense. The email she sent under her own name was pretty plain about it, and all the emails were crudely, blatantly manipulative.

She did all this so badly that it seems almost psychotic. But that doesn't negate the clear intention behind her actions-- she was trying to fool me into thinking she was four different people and convince me that "Jeff" was responsible for the lies and Crystal was innocent. The tacit hope seemed to be that I would then convince everyone else of her saintliness. There are references about how it would mean so much if I would be on her side now, after learning the "truth."

I'm not saying that she doesn't have problems; she certainly seems to. And I'm not unsympathetic. But pity only goes so far when someone tries to talk me into helping her reclaim her fandom cred by telling me she's dying of rather clearly fictionalized tumors, her sock puppet was responsible for everything, and nothing is ever her fault.

Hm. This isn't really very funny, sorry. His hed iz pastede on yay...? ^_^;

Faking serious diseases, pretending to be several people including one's own relatives, faking/stealing artwork very obviously and going to insane lengths to pretend it's not faked or stolen, photoshopping stuff with the intent to convince people it's real, and smiliarly nutty lies are all really, really common on the internet, usually in combinations of several of the above. I guess it's not always this big a fuss, but it still happens all the time in all sorts of places.
Anyway...I suppose it could mean the person doing it really needs help, but are you sure it doesn't just mean a lot of complete idiots think the other people online are not real/do not actually exist, or believe that they have absolutely no accountability for anything they do online? Considering how frequent that kind of crap is, they're probably just using those convenient "they're really just computers" people to live out mary-sue-type fantasies, since the internet is really just "pretend" anyway.
