LUCIOUS IS SO HOT OMG LOL
The bad_rpers_suck is a rant community that has less wank than most rant communities (*cough* elfwoodrant *cough*).

But still, it's a rant community, so it's inevitable, right?

Today, ruglia, who calls herself "Maji", posted this gem in which she rails against the evils of Harry Potter RPGs.

She has some points. Unfortunately, they're covered in spooge, so you kind of have to squint to make them out. The basic point: If you don't want to play an ugly Slytherin or a nerd, you SUCK because you're living up to fanon stereotypes.

Also, a quote:

"Now, seriously, when you take into consideration that, in the Harry Potter universe, subcultures don’t seem to exist—therefore, it seems unlikely that “cutting” (a popular activity of teeny gawths that empowers them with “Ba’athwater”, the goddess of eternal stu-fucking-pidity) would be around in the Harry Potter world. Also, take into account that cutting was “underground” back when Harry was in his 1st-7th years, and even now, despite the fact that it has become “mainstream” (and apparently unk3wl), it’s still not as wide-spread as HP roleplayers are making it out to be."

The lengths kids go to in order to be cool these days ...

Edit 1: The Death Eaters turned on comment notifications while I wasn't looking! *dead*

Edit 2: Maji reports me to Journalfen for libel! What's next, LJ Abuse?

Edit 3: I'm a slanderer and the JF admins are rude. Will someone give this girl a dictionary?

it’s still not as wide-spread as HP roleplayers are making it out to be."

Um. Well, actually, the thing about an activity that's largely kept secret is that there's no real way to know how wide spread it is. And I would submit that the fact that parental and teacher types are taking notice of this would indicate that it's become pretty wide spread. (Considering it's nothing new, I know kids who did it when I was in highschool 7 years ago...)

First of all, it should be noted that being a Death Eater is not cool, primarily because Rowling says so

And so? There's this unspoken *thing* that makes the bad guy cool by default. Although I don't see it much in HP, most of the Slytherin are nasty little brats and I'm sorry, but Snape is petty and childish, and the Death Eaters strike me as just a bunch of pathetic minions. But in general, I personally always love the bad guy.

And also, I wonder that the reason we don't see the subcultures easily is because they're covered by a uniform and if perhaps they're not a little different because we're gaguing them by American conventions.

Someone explain to me how Slytherin became the house of gayboys, and Ravenclaw became the house of all the “firebreathing lesbians.”* I’d really like to know.

What??? This is the first time I've heard this particular trend. Can I be a firebreathing lesbian?!

And for some reason, her "Yahweh bless his soul" line made me laugh so damn hard.

Well, she sure thinks she's the wittiest fucking thing "evar", don't she?

Yeah, she has some good points, but when she says things like Also, please note that I purposefully spelled some things wrong ("evar", etc) and If everyone in the world was homosexual, then gay marriages would not be illegal, and no one would have bad fashion sense (that was a joke), it makes me want to smack her around a little bit. See, if you feel you have to EXPLAIN the joke, it sort of destroys the funny. Not that she has much funny to peddle. All she seems to have to offer is a "ONLY I UNDERSTAND THE CORRECT WAY TO PORTRAY THE HP CHARACTERS, YOU IGNORANT GAWTHY BIZNATCHES!!" attitude.

Can someone tell me what the point of an RPG exactly is? Because to me they're boring, slightly creepy and monotonous little sploogefests. And maybe I've just poked my nose into the wrong ones, but from everything I've seen, most if not all of the messages are written in an "invitation to the tea party of the damned" style -- stilted language, odd social customs and the like. Me not get.

She is funny in places, and I imagine that she was going for the snarkily amusing style of writing, but I can't imagine she didn't know that making those remarks would get her screamed at. But the goth culture around cutting (not the thing itself; I'm aware that it's serious) is sort of alarming, so maybe that's what she means. I don't know, as I haven't read any Harry Potter RPGs.

But dude, if she only went by what Rowling wrote, it'd be really boring, as the author was pretty stereotypical yes? So of course people aren't going to want to stick exactly to the way she characterized the houses. Sure, the Slytherins she wrote about were ugly, but she doesn't say 'every single Slytherin student is a troll'. Besides, 95 percent of all RPG characters are beautiful--it's annoying but hard to avoid. (Or it was back when I roleplayed and I assume it's the same now). If the RPG doesn't specify to write in the style of Rowling, as I'm sure they don't, then keeping characterization to the way she does it would be pretty impossible.

However--gay guys not acting like 12 year old girls is quite true. Heh.

Okay, no, I have to address this libel report of hers, because it almost made me snort my lunch out my nose, and I'm still snickering at how many varieties of stupid are on riotous, colorful, Mardi-Gras-parade display here.

I ask that you perhaps ask them to remove my contact information since it's illegal to put it up without my permission (According to the TOS on other journal communities, like the one my journal is on)

Because the LJ TOS is binding on EVERY OTHER JOURNAL SERVICE EVER! LJ is the Journal Overlord! There shall be no pointing and laughing without the express written permission of LJ Abuse, anywhere ever on the internet!

I understand that their talking about me is libel unless I comment back, for this reason I have not commented back.

And what the shit is that? Is that one of those urban legends that stoned teenagers pass around, like the one where if you ask an undercover cop three times if he's an undercover cop and he doesn't say "yes" then it's entrapment and you can't go to jail? Does this mean that I've gone through my whole life libeling everyone who answers me when I say something?

Extending an offering for Cease Fire.
(Anonymous)
2004-05-18 11:04 pm UTC (link)
Okay, guys, I appreciate all the attention I've been getting from this--my live journal has received more comments than it has in a long, long time--but I think it's time to let it go. You've all made your points, some of them were perfectly, perfectly reasonable, while others seemed as though a poster only read until they became irritated and then went off on a diatribe.

Now it's time to just let it slide. I didn't send any of my friends to post mean things in this journal at you, and none of you attacked me directly in my journal (which I sort-of appreciate, although I also would've appreciated being confronted with your comments, rather than having them sent to me by the entire population of Utah in instant messages).

I was glad to see the reasonable feedback (both positive and negative), but also, most of the IMs I'm receiving lately are about this particular journal. If I get one more comment from a friend or a total stranger about this particular post I think I may have to rip out my uterus and beat it against a wall. I also want to let you know that I bear no hard feelings toward you all (I found most of the comments very funny, actually XD;).

So, yes. I'm just asking if we can call a cease fire. I won't comment on my bad_rpers_suck post anymore. I won't egg anyone flaming me on to flame me more. I'll simply ignore it. I just ask that you all cool down the rage in your future comments a bit so I get fewer IMs about it--I actually like doing things besides bitching about Harry Potter or reading fandom_wank (which I didn't even know existed until like... yesterday XD).

Thanks for your consideration!

Yeah, the journalfen system admin was incredibly rude. I wouldn't reccomend the service to anyone. :3

Riiiight. A direct, honest statement about how she's wrong about libel is rude. I guess my professors are incredibly rude for correcting my papers, too. >.<

AHAHAHAHA.

How come all my friends are getting fandom-wanked for really, really stupid things? The wank flows pretty slow these days, don't it.

Maybe someone should bring up Cassie Claire so the wank can be over, yeah?

While cutting wouldn't be in Hogwarts, I agree, it's just a story. Nobody forces you to read 'DE@thANGLES' latest OMG THE HORROR OF LIFE wankfest fanfic
