More IMDb!wank. MY FAITH IZ PASTEDE ON YAY
I'm new. Please, no flogging.

So the new Mandy Moore movie, Saved!, is about a teenager who gets pregnant and the students at her school who try to reform her.

It's not even out yet, but ho boy. We've got atheist vs. Christian!wank, evolution!wank, and a small bit of Hitler!wank.

I can't link, so: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0332375/board/nest/6877547

It all starts when Dart-H Hobbit complains that Christians are being wrongly portrayed. npinski_007 fires back with some of that "Christians are stupid and so we should laugh at them" logic, causing four posters to tell him he's wrong, as well as an ATHF reference. whitey_5600 says evolution is false, causing MAJOR wank to ensue in the form of scholarly diatribes proving evolution. Somewhere along the way, wank also delves off into proving the existence or nonexistence of God (leading to "ATHEISTS R DUMHEDS" "OMNEG THEY ARE NOT (oh my nonexistent god)" and "HITLER WUZ ATHEIST" and "U R SO DUM HE WAS XTIAN" and "OH NO YOU DI-INT"). Gandhi makes a cameo.

AND THEN! Oh no, the wank isn't done. After three million posts debating God, someone brings up sex and tells npinski_007 that waiting until marriage to have sex isn't just a Christian thing. And then, we get condom!wank, STD!wank, AND child!wank.

Someone tries to get things back on topic and says the movie is just making fun of overzealous Christians, so it'll be funny. Everyone storms this and posts long, incoherent drabble about Lutherans and Mandy Moore. mws01b begins to preach like a missionary about loving everyone, and then the whole thing goes back to "RELIGION SUX" and "OMFG U R SO DUM UR ARGUMENT IZ PASTEDE ON YAY."

Dissing religion invariably descends into the gay marriage, abortion, and priest marriage debate.

And it still goes on. And on. AND ON. It's a wank buffet. Truly beautiful.

Following the definition of a Christian God, he is also jealous of what his creations do. By them making false idols and new religious laws, they are basically spitting in face of the being who made eveything, while he is literally manifested just a few miles away. I see nothing unjust about God becoming angry about that.

What I learned from God: if my kids ever call someone else "Mom" or spit in my face, I should put them in the furnace and burn them alive.

I have no problem with a movie that makes fun of scary!Christians. If it's funny and it's true enough of the time, it doesn't need a token "OK Christian."

I prefer affectionate parody. "A Mighty Wind" and "This is Spinal Tap" were both much funnier than if the makers didn't have some affection. Hell, even "Dogma" was made partially out of what Kevin Smith liked about Catholicism. 'S why it came off as "silly" and not "rabid."

I doubt this'll be good. It seems like nowadays the most common feature of a comedy is that it hits you over the head with a "YOU SHOULD BE LAUGHING NOW!" stick instead of being funny.

Awww, imdb wank! Awesome. I need someone to bring it to me, as I fear those boards too much to check it out myself.

I really really hate the phrase 'my virginity is a gift'. It seriously creeps me out. If someone wants to wait for marriage, great! A smart thing to do probably. But that one phrase is like nails on a chalkboard. Aaaagh. I'm meeeelting.

I saw the trailer for this one a while back and it cracked me up at the time. There were several laugh out loud moments (like the bitchy Virgin Mary Heather shouting "I AM FILLED WITH CHRIST'S LOVE!!" and hurling something hard at the other girl) and it seems pretty funny. Trailers are often deceiving, though.

http://www.apple.com/trailers/mgm/saved/

The whole movie looks like bait for Outraged!Christian wank. Hey, not a bad selling point...it sure got ME interested. :)

BLASPHEMY! Although I'm amused because I think it's pretty damn obvious the guy who made the ref had no intention of making an intelligent point. I mean, he quoted a Jim Carrey movie too (I think--it's that what the "rebuttal" thing is from?).
