Even pandas need hugs sometimes.
Previous post moved here kthx.

[info]hugsnkisses writes a post about conduct on well known community journal [info]fandom_wank. People seem appreciative of this until rivier comes along.

She questions one of the guidelines set down and references a "nasty personal vendetta" as proof that the moderating on FW is subpar, despite the non-active modding role having been explained in the original post.

Various people attempt to reason with her, whilst others just point, laugh and ramble about pandas.

Wank ongoing, so just dive right in.

(psst: viking porn!!!)

And yes, this should go in [info]i_wank. And no, it's not going to.

I'm not quite sure what the issue is here. Your comments seem to be all over the place.

Is there something about the modding system that you don't understand? That we don't actually mod? It's right there in my post - the reason we have mods is on the third line.

Perhaps the word "moderators" is confusing you. I would compare us more to pandas at the zoo. As a panda, I want to make sure that I have all the bamboo leaves available for eating, however, I sleep a lot. This means that other pandas quite often steal choice morsels I had wished to keep. I often lean against the bamboos whilst I'm sleeping, which again lessens the chance of being able to see if anyone snitches it. I don't particually want to lose all the juicy bamboo goodness, but too much of it can get rather boring and besides - pandas are lazy. Is this making any sense to you? If not: meh, neither do your comments. If so, remember: even pandas need hugs sometimes.

Sorry you're getting confused, though I'm honestly not sure why. I'll try to leave out the metaphors, because your panda one just bewilders the hell out of me.

You say:
"(Mods were only instated in the first place because of heavy trolling.) Self-modding means that when someone does something that isn't cool, said uncool person gets told so or bitchslapped and they stop. Most of the time it's worked."

So I'm not sure whether you mean that trolling someone would be acceptable if you or the other mods, or the rest of the community, decided that yes, it was trolling but hey, kids, it was pretty cool trolling, really!

As moderators, what functions do you serve in terms of regulating content on this community? Do you *ever* intervene to amend or remove a post? What do you do on the times when "it's [not] worked" - when the community's supposedly self-regulating mechanism has failed to deliver? If all moderation in terms of what's deemed to be acceptable content is down to the mob rule you refer to - the marvellous deterrent power of 'bitchslapping' - then why do you feel the need to explain your minimal expectations with this entry? Won't the pointing and mocking of posters who go over the lowest common denominators of acceptable behaviour simply be laughed out of here by the community as a whole?

In short - what do you, moderators, actually do - if you happen to notice a post which you judge (regardless of the community's approval or scorn) to be trolling?

haaaaa, NOW I get it. you don't know what we call trolling around here. *nods to self*

trolling is defined in FW as what i pointed out to you in my other comment-- it was before i saw this one which explains a little of what i wanted to understand of your, er, complaint.

a post made in fw about you = not trolling.

a mass of comments made in your journal from people who saw you mentionned in a wank on FW and thereafter decided to go engage you directly to poke fun and mock on your territory = trolling.

does that help you understand why the post made about you didn't stir any moderator at the time? i hope so.

oh, and also: "(Mods were only instated in the first place because of heavy trolling.)" was a totally different thing...

I can see how you got the two kinds of trolling confused, of course, being the same word and all.

here's the low-down: mods on FW were only instated after FW itself got heavily trolled. That is, the community developped the need to have someone(s) with banning power to keep someone-who-must-not-be-named outta the community. it is a unique situation, and the 'trolling' referred to in that parenthesis of the OP. it *isn't* the trolling referred to in rule guideline 7 or whateverthenumber.

Wheee, you're like Mr. Saotome in a way! *hugs*

And the panda allegory makes a lot of sense, because, you know, it was clear as crystal.
